A little stone in my flower bed

I saw these a few years ago on the forest floor in Acadia National Park. I'm not sure if they are flowers or some kind of fungus, or what.

Bob, that is known as Indian Pipe. A fungus, It grows in shady woods around decaying stumps and leaves. As a kid I spent a lot of time in the woods and was delighted when I would come upon it.

Actually Bob and Gazania, it's not a fungus but actually a flower! They don't have any chlorophyll that's why they're white. They grow in the woods here, I usually see them in late August.

Spring is finally springing. The Amelanchiers are in bloom, so the birds and I will be keeping watch for the berries to follow. Chances are that the birds will beat me to them.
