Those appear to be a member of the Helianthus family. It is a large family and among its more well-known members is the annual sunflower. The foliage on yours is sorta different, in that some appears to be a simple green, whereas some appears to be variegated.

I did a buncha looking and this link might show you more. It can be confusing whether it is Helianthus or Heliopsis.

Thanks for the info. This picture was taken last summer. I just looked at these and I have 2 that is variegated, one or two plants are plain green.

These are in semi-shade, so maybe that is why.

Flowers in our yard about a week ago:

Beautiful bounty in my atrium right now. I need to go take pictures of my gardenia tree it is loaded with pretty flowers that scent the yard.

That is Heliopsis,more commonly known as the outhouse plant-it has a "sister" plant,known as Coreposis,or Tickseed.Each of them are somewhat invasive and can grow to an easy 5'.

Man, you guys have such pretty flowers.

I went for a walk today and saw a pair of Canadian geese with 5 goslings, They were swimming in the Bark river with one parent in the lead, followed by a string of 5 goslings, and the second parent bringing up the rear. I could not quite get my camera positioned correctly for a shot before they ducked behind some shore weeds.

The yellow flowers at the rear are coreopsis, notice the difference in the foliage from what Sharonann posted. The flowers are only 1 - 1.5 inches across.

Helianthus 'Microcephalus" whose flowers are only about 5 inches across - about 6' high, growing along my back fence.

Sharonann, this is Heliposis 'Loraine Sunshine the variegated variety. It reseeds and reverts back to it's solid leaf in the new plants. It does spread well, too well in my garden.
