Three weeks ago I posted about my friend who had a blood clot on her brain and was in a coma.She was one of our basketball friends and we went to the same church.
After being in a coma for 19 days, Rosemary died last Wednesday. I feel so sorry for her DH. He is 87 and this is the second wife he has lost.
Today at the game, I told the people who sat near her what had happened to her. Later someone else asked me where the "minister's wife" was and I told him she died last week.

You will have usable eggplants in a few weeks and a month from now you will have friends refusing the extras that your plants are producing. What white variety are you growing? Many white varieties are better if harvested a little early, before they develop tougher, browish skins.

Debbie, I am so sorry for your loss, you loved your Al so much and you had done so much to make his life bearable with all his health problems, you are a wonderful person and a perfect wife to Al, he must have loved you so much too. I think it is absolutely disgusting that people would say that you are young enough to get another man, that is such a cruel thing to say to someone who just lost the love of their life. Yes, we are happy that our loved one isn't suffering any more but we still wish that they hadn't had to die for them to lose their pain. I hold onto the faith that I will see my darling husband in Heaven when I get there. I am glad that you have your children, they are a great source of comfort but the pain of the loss is excrutiating.There are a lot of things you have to take care of after a death and it can take months to get it all done but take your time. The best piece of advice I got from everyone was don't rush into anything, take you time and make sure the decision is right for you before you go ahead. My husband died three months ago and I still haven't taken his shirts out of the closet, I will soon, but when the time is right for me. The memorial by his apple tree sounds like the perfect thing and he will be smiling and saying "this is beautiful Debbie". God Bless you and your family, I wish you well. Mav. PS>If you can, find a bereavement group in you area, maybe the church or the hospital, I did and it has been a great source of comfort.

Thank you so much, everyone, what a bunch of ego-boosters you all are! Honestly, joining a quilt along was the only way for me to go, it was inspiring and getting further instructions on a weekly basis was perfect, enough time to get the assignment done and then more time leftover to get excited about the next bit to do. If left on my own, I tend to lose interest. And when everyone posts photos of their work, it's inspiring and informative, to see what fabrics they're using and what I liked and didn't like about them. The trouble is, though- I tend to want to copy 3 or 4 of them and I just don't need a bunch of quilts! And the main reason I didn't give up on the lemonade quilt is that I had cut up 40 fat quarters and I didn't want to waste $100 worth of good fabric! I'm making all kinds of things out of the strips- Pity Potholders, Scrappy Neck Wrappies, cat collars, a cat blanket, etc. lol I'm trying to recoup some of my losses, 'cause I'm so mad at myself! Biwako- Nosey Parker looks less than white when she's on the quilt, but if she lays in just the right spot, you can't even see her. lol And she is one of the reasons I'll never be able to use black sashing in anything I make, darn it! White cat hairs on quilts- not pretty!

I am so sorry. Her husband may do better than you expect. My father was almost 87 when my mother passed (they had been married for 63 years), but he has done very well. He misses her terribly, but he travels extensively and has a lady friend (he is almost 92; she is a year younger). My prayers are with her family and friends.

Ah, I'm sorry for your loss. You were a good friend to her. Sometimes death is the best outcome, even though the person will be dearly missed.

I feel for the hurt in your heart from the losing of your friend.

It is hurtful to lose one who has become a dear friend. As well as one whom one has chosen as a special loved one, as one's second mate, and late in life.

I expect that while building a relationship with another partner so late in life, there would be somewhat less connection, or lower commitment, as one would be certain that the relationship was going to be, of necessity, not a long-lived one. Aware that when one loves deeply ... the hurt is deeper when the loved one goes?

Would that make one skittish about making too deep a commitment ... and, when we choose to do so, does it cut us off from the opportunity to participate in some of the greater joys in life? To settle for being half alive, so to speak?

Linda, I'm so sorry for your loss.

We said goodby to a decades long friend this week too, Opal turned 90 in October and we went to her surprise party, she was bright, energetic, and still driving. Three weeks later a stroke, followed by a second.

I don't think it matters the age of our friends, when they are gone, we miss them. Even if its a time where her passing makes some sense, I know you will feel the loss.

I am so sorry, Linda. I have not had a friend pass yet other than when I was young, and I know I'll have a hard time with it when it happens. I hope her husband has lots of good support.
