regular 87 gas is $ 3.23 here.

It was $2.89 yesterday morning, less than 2 hours later it was #3.05 for 87 octane. Same station this evening is $3.01. Got it a Sam's club last night for $2.82. Merry Christmas to the gas companies. Bah humbug.

It is about $3.35 at most stations but Von's is only $3.21 and we get three cents off.
I miss our long drives up the coast just to sight see.

One day ago, our price was $2.959 per Gal (87 octane). Late yesterday, most stations raised the price to $3.099. On the same day, sweet crude oil edged over $90 per barrell.

In the US, a portion of the increase is tied to value of the dollar as pegged against other currencies. For this week, about half of the increase was due to currency value change and the rest from increased demand during the holiday period. The analysts did not address the hidden issue of "charging what the market will bear". In my opinion, that was in effect this week.

We have three competiting brands of gasoline stations in our small town. These are supposed to operate without collusion, but it makes me wonder how the two majors can price their fuel to exactly the same price within an hour of each other; the third station merely follows the price of his competitor down the street.

On occasion, one of the majors will boost his price for a day or two, but if the others do not follow, he brings it back down. That perticular station is on a high traffic intersection with two highways.

We are up to $3.05 for the cheap stuff. Welcome to Fla!
They raise it for the holidays to gouge everyone that comes in.

It's been 3.09 here for the past week or so.

I've been paying $3.17 to $3.19 a gallon here in Long Island NY. Newspaper says prices will continue rising. I'm glad I no longer have to drive 70 miles round trip to work. One of the perks of being retired!

I thought the government said the cost-of-living hasn't gone up for the last two years--that's why retirees didn't get any increase in pay.

I would love to know where the government did their survey...maybe we should move there.

wanda under the previous regime the Treasury dept announced no COL increases for 2-3 yrs, this was in Nov 2007. the last time we discussed this topic i did a search under the treasury dept and found a link for the formula they use. gas, prescriptions and a few other items are not included in calculations. interestingly i also found most ag products in this country are at an all time low such as grains and that is figured into the calc. the calc is an average on the whole country not one area. unfortunately due to so many boomers retiring there will probably never be another increase as there are too few workers now supporting this program. there is already a treasury dept consensus that there can only be cuts and there are many 'rumors' there is nothing left for those under 30. it will be interesting to see the outcomes of the deficit reduction committee.

back to gas cost of gas... here in orlando $2.95. oil is a limiting factor in our lives so those who own the most, want to control supply. since we don't, we have to pay up. using up our reserves puts us in a good spot for enemies. i found it VERY interesting that in the summer of 2007 when gas was easily close to $5.00gal for no reason other than consumption & supply, everyone was believing that lol. when the oil spill happened gas didn't rise one bit and we were wasting millions of barrels...hmmmm wonder what caused gas to skyrocket in 2007??? BTW in financials a rise in gas is considered a good things as it points to a rise usually in consumption ie more driving, more ability to spend more ~ liz
