This is my new furbaby "MyBen". Just got her Saturday

I like her markings~~we had a white kitty girl with black markings for about 16 years~~~she had a lot of black around her eyes she was called Cleo;)

She looks so cute;)

Debbi, Pat, thanks for your comments. Debbi: When I started collecting, I too was mystified by the apparent dearth of orchid sources. I'm gradually sniffing them out. Here are some indications - from dilettanti with little or no knowledge of what they're selling to the really serious collectors/vendors. The prices are (believe it or not) in descending order, with the best deals from the serious collectors. 1) select florist shops (large NOID phals) 2) general garden centres (phals and cymbidiums -all noids) 3) two "kibbutzim" Maale Hahamisha (phals and some catt. hybrids, some labelled) and Bahan (a more varied selection, but unlabelled - this one sells potting medium, fert. etc. and has an orchid park with a play area for kids and a coffee shop). 4)The serious growers. One or two have websites where you can order online, but it's much more fun to visit and select on the spot. Especially true if you're a centrally located pensioner with lots of time on your hands (haha!). sharonorchids.com is my favourite, but there are plenty more. You can also order flasks or soiless plants from abroad, but this is complicated and expensive and requires an import licence from the dept. of agriculture. So, that's the picture. Sorry about all the details, but you DID ask.... Pat: Ah! your beautiful orchids and your beautiful photos. My mouth waters every time I open one of your posts. A question: The two dens (acquired from different stands) came potted in mainly lava rock and charcoal with a bit of bark mixed in. Both were quite damp when I got them, but have now dried out completely (after two days). Is this normal and if so, does this mean that I'll have to water every two days?? Could I (should I) repot into standard orchid mix which seems to suit my catts and allows me to water them in this fairly dry weather every 7-10 days? Thanks in advance. Judy

I don't put feeders out anymore having read that it is more healthy for the birds to get their nectar from flowers, but mine would get mobbed at times; then a very aggressive male would come along and guard it and keep everyone else away. Over time I've planted so many nectar-rich plants with flowers year round the feeders are unnecessary. Besides hummers the common warblers and orioles are nectar-drinkers here. There are enough flowers that the males cannot guard them all and the females and juveniles have plenty. Abutilon, Aloe, Anigozanthos, Callistemon, Calothamnus, Cerinthe, Echeveria, Eremophila, Iochroma, Manzanita, Russelia, Leucospermum, Fuchsia, Tecoma stans, Salvia, Salvia, Salvia, and most especially Grevillea! Greveillea 'Superb' and Grevillea 'Moonlight in particular bloom year round and are mobbed, absolutely mobbed with birds and bees. The meeker birds sneak up and under to feed, hidden from the males who perch up high. Most of these plants also have low-water needs once established.

If you are doing the judging, you cannot have favourite colours. Lol. I was leading the lay panel (that is the panel of amateurs) used when one of our member AOC judges was not at the meeting. The Catt in question was unplaced in its Class. Just missed out. One of those almost good orchids. The hybrid Paphiopedilum is a much more desirable orchid (in my inexpert opinion).

Den. Yukidaruma registered by Yamamoto in 1973. Still good after all the years. re. the Cymbidiums some do not have the summer upper limit of 20C at night and will bloom in warmer climates. Cymbidium Golden Elf is one. Still, if you you are in Florida there must be some orchids that are easy there and almost impossible in NY.

She is 4 months old and I love her SO MUCH!! Nice to have someone to come home to.

Once you've had a cat, it's almost impossible to live without another one. That's how I feel, anyway.

I'm so glad that your found MyBen. What a cool name? How did you pick that?

My first cat was named Benjamin. When I would get home I would say "That's My Ben".

So I decided to name my sweetie...Myben

So happy for you and MyBen! I have an adult male named Dodson with very similar markings...a Harlequin is the name for this coloring as far as I know...so pretty they are!
