Science Meets Design
Add Your Favorite Course of Study to Your Favorite Room
Because the arts and sciences are two completely different disciplines, the intersection of the two is rarely discussed. As I entertained this thought I happened to be browsing the Houzz photo gallery. Lo and behold, were countless examples of art and science coexisting harmoniously in interior spaces. I took a moment to change into my lab coat and began composing this ideabook in hopes that you find this an entertaining as I do. Don't be intimidated by the coat and googles, for there is no pop quiz at the end. Simply take a moment to enjoy my experiment:
Astronomy (the study of the celestial objects): Have a future astronomer under your roof? Foster your child's galactic pursuits with an oversized poster of constellations. Be prepared for their next request, a telescope.
Ornithology (the study of birds): Crafted to display the homeowner's collection of vintage birds, this tree adds a lovely outburst of color against a white backdrop while also providing an up close and personal view of her favorite feathered friends.
Psychology (the study of the mind): Take mental health to another level with scrabble pieces turned refrigerator magnets. Prominently placed, this positive affirmation promotes brighter mornings and a healthier daily outlook.
Horticulture (the study of plant cultivation): A container garden helps any novice gain confidence in sustainable gardening for the home.
Optometry (the study of eyes and vision): Your local eye care center would be the coolest in the city with this pair of industrial, metal eye-chart plates.
Taxonomy (the study of animal classification) : Love it or leave it, vintage taxidermy appear in some of the most exclusive shelter magazine as well in the most humble of hunting lodges. Recently, artificial varieties have gained popularity and has made the appreciation of the craft more palatable.
Entomology (the study of insects): Finding a swarm of dragonflies in a nursery would send a protective mother into a frenzy unless of course they are a cute cluster of critters posing as wall decor. Try saying that phrase three times.
Botany (the study of plants): Vintage species charts receive a second chance as a focal point in a grand staircase. Preserved in custom frames, these prints will last for many years to come.
