It's supposed to be the biggest full moon of the year. Should be very pretty!

It's been cold here in Orland. It hasn't hit the freezing point yet, it will soon. We bring our winter tomatoes into the garage every night to keep them warm and to make sure the deer don't get to them. I have all my pots gathered together next to the steps. I covered them up Friday night, but it didn't get that cold yet. I am planning to put christmas lights in my small citrus trees this year. I tried covering them up last yearand it was such a hassle to go out at night and cover them up and then to have to uncover them in the morning. I need to check on some of that "row cover" stuff to see if I can find some that is the right size. Donna

Any 'moon garden' pictures out there? (Pics)

Hi FlowerAddict, thanks.. I love my white garden. I really enjoy speaking with others who have the same interest. I an curious about a few things you mentioned. I have a Blanc Double DeCoubert white rose in my white garden.. I have to say I am a bit disappointed in it. Although the petals are crisply white, I find the form unatractive, and it doesn't last that long. I heard they were fragrant, but I don't find them anything special. I have never heard of Darlow's Enigma, I'd like to hear more about them. I also have considered adding lighting to the garden, but I really can't think of a way to add lighting in an attractive way. My plants range from 4 inches to 8 feet, not including the vines. I like the white at dusk, but I am afraid putting lighting directly in the garden may take away from the hovering, glowing effect by lighting the foliage as well. Do you have any ideas on how you will light your garden. I 'd love to see pictures next spring. I am always 'touring' anyone's garden I can. I love finding out about peoples favorites and how they enjoy them. I do some garden photography, and painting, so I get to enjoy the gardens year-round. I have no talent when it comes to garden art. I see you have a statue, obelisk and bird bath...It sounds so lovely and peaceful. I picture some epimediums with your ferns and hosta. I have an area that has a lot of shade..although it isnt in my white garden. I have several ferns, hosta, epimediums, arabis, lamium, In the spring it has bleeding hearts, virginia bluebells and columbine ( I love this combination..the pink/purple/blue/white and green with silver) What kind of fern do you have? I recently added some maidenhair fern and some tatting fern..I like the different textures and heights. Looking forward to your garden photos...Good luck and have fun!

I am not entirely sure the extent of moon phases affecting things. But I do know it does SOMETHING. Take the tides for instance. Also I used to sell hot dogs outside the cabarets at night. Full moon night was sure to be interesting. And when I was expecting my first child, the weekend of the full moon my water broke so I went to hospital. That weekend my entire pretantal class was in there having their babies! Many of which came in because their water totally broke or they were leaking. The maternity ward nurses agknowledge that the ward is busier on a full moon. When I came in they said 'wow it must be a full moon out there.' The nursery was wall to wall babies. So I can imagine it would have SOME effect on plants if it can bring higher tides and pull babies from the womb.

Thanks Patty! Will check into it! Love the star drapped sky, the moon.......I did smell rose fragrance in the air, have to find out which one........will report it back the rose name...... I think the fragrant roses are Intrigue and Miss All American Beauty. Beautiful scent! :-) If I see more these roses at Walmart next year, I'd buy them all! Miss All American Beauty was from Walmart, Intrigue roses were from Breck's bargain sales-5 for $19.99.

We drove around a bit after leaving the nursing home and looked at Christmas decorations, that moon was BRIGHT!

I read this on another site last night:

December 12 Â The Full Cold Moon
Sky watchers will be dazzled by an exceptionally high, bright, and large Moon. In fact, this Moon is 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full Moons this year. Why? The Moon is both in its full phase and at a point in its orbit that is nearest Earth, called its perigee. When these events occur together, the Moon is closer to Earth than usual. The effect? The Full Cold Moon will appear especially large near the horizon as the Sun sets.

The Moon is also high at this time of year; when it's overhead (near midnight), it will light up the landscape. Take a magical stroll and see your world at night. You won't need a flashlight! (farmer's almanac)

I think I may go for a midnight walk tonight ;-)

I was outside at about 5:45 pm. The huge moon was shining through some tree branches. It looked so pretty. I wanted to go get my camera, but I had to take Anna to her TaeKwonDo class and really didn't have time. I hate to miss a photo op like that.

We used to look at the moon and try to find the "Madonna and child" in it I think the shapes had another name but I've forgotten besides the "man in the moon"

It's been snowing since about 10:30 this morning here with no end in sight. Won't be seeing the moon for a while...... :o(
