I am looking at the 535 with a discount code for $212 thru HSN.

HERE

Will the Roomba keep the cat hair policed up?

Tell me what Roomba you have and what you like/dislike about it.

Dave, I have the Roomba Discovery and LOVE it! I looked at the specs for the one you're considering and it looks identical to mine except I have two virtual walls instead of one.

My Roomba picks up everything, including stuff along the baseboards. It is quite powerful considering it's small size. The only downside is that the receptical where all the dirt goes is pretty small so has to be cleaned after nearly every use.

I don't have a pet so I don't know personally how well it will do with pet hair but from what I've read, it does a good job, and entertains the pets as well. :-)

Jo, I use a drip irrigation system and put it away before freezing temperatures arrive. Parts of it...like the t-tape can be left outdoors but it drastically shortens its life. My garden slopes much more than yours, so I have my drip irrigation set up in zones with ball valves, so I can shut off some sections while irrigating others. Since water tends to flow downhill pretty well, even underground, my higher beds dry out faster than lower ones and need to be watered more often. Also, because they are on the higher south and west ends of the garden, they are more exposed to summer's south winds. Most of the time,, since water does flow underground from our neighbor's higher ground to our south, the lower beds at the north end of the garden have good deep moisture under them for a much longer period of time and often I don't have to irrigate those beds at all until mid-summer or later. To make drip irrigation work in our big,sloping garden, setting up zones has worked better than anything else I've tried. Our lowest temps at our house this winter have been 9, 10 and 11 degrees on several different nights, so I was glad we didn't have any drip lines out exposed to those temperatures. The people who leave their drip irrgation lines in the garden all winter often unhook the lines and situate them so any water left in them can run out. Then they use an air compressor to blow air through them to insure they are dry, and then hook them back together in place to they are ready for spring. I am not certain what they do with the rest of the system, but I imagine that even if they leave the lines themselves in the ground, they take the pressure regulator, filter and other parts and dry them out and store them indoors where they won't freeze and crack. Drip irrigation might not meet your needs if you don't want to put it up every winter, but it might work okay. You can learn more about drip irrigation at the website of Dripworks, which I'll link below. They even have designers who will help you design your drip system if you want them to, free of charge. If you go that route, be sure you tell them about the change in the grade in your garden so they can take that into account. Also, there is an irrigation forum here at GW and I bet the irrigation specialists there would be happy to answer your questions. I've grown Acalypha wilkesiana since I arived in Florida 25 years ago. They take full sun to 1/2 day shade. And yes, they can freeze back in tempatures that dip around 32 degrees. In south Florida, they can reach upwards of 15 foot. but here in St Pete, 6 foot is more like. I have several around my yard. My big red one - "Louisiana Red" stops traffic. The white one named "Java white" always gets an Wow! And don't forget about the chenille plant, it's in the same family, too. I think they're very easy to grow. If you can grow a hibiscus, you will not have any trouble growing one of these. jxbrown, fwiw, I bought a bunch of those to put on my oven racks. Yes, they do work...but they were a PAIN! I could no longer slide things on/off the shelf. I found them to be impractical...jmho!!! I don't care for mitts, either. Or the silicone pad. I just like the good old-fashioned terry cloth pot holder. I bought some newer quilted ones (not terry) that won't bend easily enough to grip the pan! LOL! I'm always on the search for terry cloth potholders. Scooba worked really well on the sealed wood floor and on the press tiled (vinyl). It scrubbed up yucky sticky stuff with no problem, got the bulk of the water off the floor and the floor dried clean/not streaky using the natural floor enzyme cleaner and city water. I have ceramic tile floors with wide and deep grout lines in the laundry/mud/pet grooming room that I took a dry mop to after the Scooba went over it because the fluid stayed in the grout lines. DH says he can re-do the grout this year and make it not so deep and put extra grout sealer on to see if that will work better. Otherwise I love the Scooba and I won't mind drying off one small floor to use it. Oh BTW the new natural floor cleaning solution smells nice too! LIL

I have model 530 and I also love it. We have a mini doxie and it does a great job with her hair. We are actually looking to upgrade to a programmable model. We have friends who have 4 in their house!! One for each level and one for the garage and workshop.

I got the 535 for Christmas but I've only used it once. Sure is a cute little thing, but mine's a bit klutzy (like it's mama). It keeps running into furniture. No pets here either, but many people here who do sure seem to like it.

I forgot--it does have a setting on it called "Spot". If you press that it will only clean a 3 sq.ft. area. So I'll do that when I only need the traffic area cleaned.

I have a Roomba Discovery and four shedding cats. I LOVE my Roomba!!! It picks up cat hair with no problem whatsoever - even under couches and beds. I empty it and clean the brushes after each use. Buy it!! You will not regret it.

I love my roomba - it cleans when I'm outside the house, working in my studio.

Patty43 - did you expect it to *not* bump into furniture? It's just a robot, not a magic robot. It doesn't have eyes. Mine bumps into furniture all the time. That's part of the way it works. It bumps, gently, then cleans around the legs, and underneath if it can get there. That's the point. NO damage to the furniture at all over several years.

I LOVE my Roomba (and my Scooba, too); only drawback is they are a bit noisy.

maryc--sure I knew it'd bump the furniture, but mine seems to go straight to a table or chair even if it's in the middle of the room when it starts out.

What is really cool about them is that you can let it go to work when you leave for the day or when you go to bed and when it runs low on battery power, it heads back to its docking station to recharge.

One night I let it loose to clean the living room before heading to bed. I got into bed and then felt guilty that it was out in the living room working in the dark. I got up to check on it. Got all the way out to the living room when I realized I was worried about a gosh darn machine ... albiet, one I named Scooter. :-)

Enjoy your little guy Dave, you won't regret the purchase.

I used my mom's Roomba for a few months. No pet here but yes, it does work for dust, grass, etc. What I didn't like is that it isn't "fringe friendly" so having fringe on your rugs may be a problem. I also didn't like having to pick up or "hide" my cords...seemed like it wasn't too "cord friendly" either. Minor annoyances, though. :-)
