I'm so glad my husband drives a tow truck. As it was, it cost us $250+/- a few bucks, to get it out of the tow lot! If we had to pay to get it towed to my house, you could almost guarentee that $$ amount would have doubled. Well, here it is. DS went to a doctor yesterday who recommended he see a chiropractor. Not my first choice, but he's big boy......... So he went and has whiplash. His job is pretty good about not letting him overwork himself. His girlfriend has been complaining of pain since she got home too. I hope she has seen her doctor by now. Anyways, this is my car:

Oh my goodness, that looks awful! It brings back bad memories for me.

But I'm glad your son isn't in worse shape, and I hope his girlfriend is ok.

It looks bad, is the motor or other parts under the hood damaged? The ex hit someone head on in my little Toyota years ago and it cost us a new (used from a junk yard) hood, bumper and transmission, plus other parts I can't remember. It was awful. I'm just glad your son and his girlfriend weren't hurt worse.

I have the same issue and for a long time I could not figure out how the rain water is landing on top the car especially after I weather-stripped the top and sides of the door - until today when I just happened to open the garage door to clean the water mess on the car, the water came pouring through the sectionals of the door! Now it is simply not just the few drops of water that is the nuisance - if your car has some or lots of) dust the water drops create a messy look after the water drops on the car dry out - it looks really yucky on most cars and especially on a black car! If you want to go out and it is still raining, sure, the mess will be washed off but what if it is bone dry outside (sunny or not) - one is compelled to wash the mess off oneself or take the car to the car wash, unless one is ok with a messy looking car. This is quite annoying if this happens frequently as it does in the rainy season.

***SIGH*** I hear you! Where I "used" to live in PA,we could go away for a week and let the door unlocked.Here...we had to put up locked gates because the freaks back the alley have teenagers that think it's ok to walk in my carport and take...my lawnmower and our tools when they need money.We learned the hard way that this isn't our small hometown....now we lock everything up.Wonder what the kids back the alley are doing for money these days? Brats! Then they come past and say"good Evening" real sweet! Grrrrr! The neighbor saw them taking my stuff ,I should have called the cops but he wasn't SURE which kid it was.There are about 5 of them back there.More on any given day. Cops are always back there.Only bad family on our street! (Of course there's only 5 houses here counting the one on the corner.)

"make sure you change your oil regularly" I'm not going to comment about what practices auto makers have concerning their warranty coverage but from the standpoint of a car owner, oil level is far more important than regularity of changes. Many cars today use synthetic oil and while any oil gets dirty over time, synthetic oil's ability to do its job doesn't degrade the way petroleum based engine lubricants do. For many cars, burning a little oil in normal use can be expected. It's not unusual for a car to need to have some oil added in between regular oil changes. After hard conditions - a lot of stop and go driving, or high highway speeds especially. A low oil level will do more harm, more quickly, than being a few months or thousands of miles (or kilometers) past the change schedule. The message is - check your oil regularly when the engine is cold and especially before a trip. Double check to have the right grade and type of oil on hand to add when needed, before it's needed.

Trying to help someone who hit my car

Hi folks, I want to inform you of how things ended with my fender that was hit by an honest person who left a note in my car with her phone number. After getting estimates of $1500 or more from two auto body shops, I decided to try the guy who installed a sideview mirror for me which I bought on eBay, after the original one was hit by someone who did not have the decency to leave me a note. This auto body mechanic said that he could repair the existing fender for $450.00. In other words, I did not have to order a new one. I informed the woman who hit my car and she had no problem with the estimate. The fender got fixed yesterday. I'm really glad that I did not have to go through the woman's insurance and that it was a much lower cost for her. This was my way of saying thanks for being honest by leaving me a note, admitting that she hit me, rather than just fleeing since I was not around when it happened. I had simply parked my car on a street near my home (I do not have a driveway). I'm attaching before and after photos below.

I don't think it would be worth fixing this car. It's soooooooooo old! I'm sure parts won't be easy to find. This year just keeps going from bad to worse............ It's almost over, right?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

If you haven't already--CALL YOUR LAWYER FIRST THING THIS MORNING.

You don't want to have to deal with the medical bills, negociations, insurance companies involved, etc. Let your lawyer handle all that. And if the accident can in any way be considered your son's fault, you need him to have the best representation possible. You have the added legal complication of a passenger. If she's injured, it's possible her insurance company will balk at paying when they discover it was the result of an accident--she may have no choice but to make a claim/sue someone to be reimbursed for her medical expenses (if any)--and that someone may be your son.

When dd was rear-ended a few years back, the best thing we did was immediately turn everything over to our lawyer. We didn't even have to open the bills from the hospital/drs.

And do be very alert--DD went to the ER, had x-rays the night of her accident and was fine. Within a couple of weeks, she developed a serious, permanent back problem that's going to give her trouble the rest of her life. If your son has any pain at all in the next few weeks, make sure he knows to get it looked into immediately--some injuries aren't immediately apparent after something like that.

I so hope things work out for you--have been there, with my dd, as I said--I know about the injuries and years of legal stuff you've got ahead of you. Good luck. And I really do hope that your son and his friend are going to be okay in the long run.

Our 2003 Toyota looked like that. The insurance company sent it to the Total Loss Unit. We ended up buying a 2004 Toyota with the check from the insurance. Good luck! Glad your son is okay-hope his GF gets to a doctor. Back and neck injuries can show up later.

WHOA...that is some serious damage...glad your DS and his honey are ok...but like Azzalea said...their injuries might not show up for a few weeks so keep a good eye on them!!
