No pics, but my husband put lights on our Magnolia tree but it looks to me like he just threw them at the tree. I'm not complaining cause I don't want to have to re-do it. LOL

In a couple of towns over, there are the huge,huge inflateable figures in a very tiny yard. They have Halloween ones in the same size, in October. Now that's tacky, IMHO.

I recently spotted an inflatable manger scene.......now THAT'S tacky!

What slays me is the ones who don't bother to clean the trash, junk, etc. up before they plop lights & huge inflated snow men (usually drooping as if they're very tired)in the yard.
Kinda' wonder how someone justifies $$ spent on decorations when porch or steps are about to fall through. I'd buy a hammer 'n nails instead, but to each his own.

In my town there is a yard that is outlined with milk jugs that they light up at night with strings of Christmas lights. In the day time it looks like a yard outlined with milk jugs. At night it looks like a yard outlined with lit up milk jugs LOL. They have been doing this for years. I've always wondered where they store all those jugs during the year.

In a nearby town to us there's a family that has inflatables for every holiday/event...and not just one, but 3, 4, or more! DH and I think they must either own stock in the company that makes them or they work somewhere where they get a great discount! Not just Christmas & Halloween, but also Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, and St. Patrick's Day! (I don't remember if they have Independence Day inflatables...)

Seriously, I look at these yards and think their kids probably love the decorations! I know my kids always like to drive around and see what everyone has done...and they like to stop and look at those houses that are "over the top"...you know the kind, they must have hundreds of thousands of lights, dozens of figures, etc., all in one yard. We also decorate for the kids... but I try to rein in some of the more exotic ideas...

One house I use to garden for had an inflatable reindeer. It was a very windy area and had to be staked down, it also had a slow leak, therefore every few days his antlers would begin to droop. It was my job to blow him back up. I always imagined that it looked like I was out in the front lawn doing something nasty to this inflatable animal. I'd try to get there at first light and have the job done before it was light enough for the neighbors to see anything.

I enjoy seeing anyone's decorations--from the sophisticated to the truly tacky. We appreciate that someone took the time, spent the money to do something to brighten their house for the season.

However, here's my idea of Christmas tacky. A house had a lawn full of inflatables--loads of them. BUT they apparently weren't paying their electric bill. DH (a utility company collector) had to go out to the house and cut the service. Causing all the figures (which were inflated during the day) to whoosh to their demise. He actually got a kick out of seeing it, I'm afraid. Still, I do think it's pretty tacky to spend money on decorations when you can't afford to provide your family with the necessities of life.

If you've seen those people who have decorations in every square inch of their lawn, THAT is what my DH would love to do. *sigh* We don't do it because -- I don't know. We just don't. But if he had the time and someplace to store the stuff, or if I would offer up the slightest bit of encouragement, he would be one of those people in a heartbeat.

There is a house in town that puts up the same decoration every Christmas. It is a very ugly dummy on a cross. I suppose it is suppose to be Jesus Christ. Strange anytime of the year.

I think all the inflatables are tacky. We do white lights and we put up alot, trees, deer, icicle lights, etc. I do like the colored lights too, but the inflatables - they really look awful and people love them.

We have tacky neighbors...this year they set up a bunch of cheap plastic stuff out in their yard,and still havent put away the kids plastic pool from summer. Its just all out there together. Their yard is always trashy,and the city gets on them now and then. I wish they would MOVE!!

We should start an "inflatables anonymous" group. We don't own any but I like seeing them!

Last year we took Nick out in the car for a light tour locally and it was BORING! White lights, lighted reindeers. The inflatables were almost the most excitement we saw.

A few years ago there was a place that must have had every illuminated plastic figurine from the past 25 years covering the yard, just randomly covering every inch, front and back yard, and it was awesome! Around the block was a lovely nativity with speakers and music. There aren't enough showstoppers like that around any more.

I get a kick out of seeing Santa and snowmen visiting nativity scenes.

I really should not criticize, as I don't do anything that is visible from the road.

Caroline 1947,i think you and i have the same neighbors.Ours has lights all over the house,started out with white ones,and when they ran out they added colored to finish it out.Then they wrapped the palm trees in lights,and tied a nutcracker to each tree,high up in the air.These were meant to set on the ground.Then up on the roof they have an inflateable santa,and they had to add this big board to the peak of the roof to set him on and an old tar bucket to weigh down the anchors.Their porch is full of junk,old bookcases,boots,big bags of dog food etc.Nasty,nasty ,nasty.

What they should do is have a cleanup day and get rid of all the junk.
