Considering purchasing an Electric Broom...

to use mainly in our kichen-breakfast room on vinyl floors. We have three dogs, & the broom-dustpan method just isn't working for dog hair. I've dragged out our heavy duty commercial upright vacuum cleaner a few times, & that works wonders, but is rather overkill.

I really don't know anything about such an object. I certainly don't want to purchase a not very useful "gadget".

Any comments/experiences/brand names?

Amber gave me one a few years back. I can't remember the brand name. I would have to go back downstairs to look. Anyway. It does work, but I just don't use it. I love my Roombas though. Mine are the inexpensive models. I have one two years and the other one year.

I don't think I answered your electric broom question though.

I purchased an Electrolux Stik Vacuum for the tile in my kitchen and baths. I have 6 cats and it works quite well. I mounted the charging station to the wall in the laundry room, out of the way. I like it because there is no cord to worry with.

You can remove the handheld part of it for small jobs. It's like a dustbuster.

We installed brand new hardwood floors three years ago. Since installing them, we have used the exact same combination polkadots described above -- a Miele S4210 vacuum with the horse hair brush. The S4210 is not very heavy (probably about 20 lbs, so I carry it by hand most of the time -- not because of the danger of scratching, I just find it faster to move around this way. We have tried almost every high end vacuum you can buy and I can confirm that almost nothing comes close to the Miele (well, I am a little biased because I am Eurpoean and grew up with German appliances). You can buy it online for about $500 it seems or try and find a local dealer. I bought from a local dealer for about $360 three years ago.

Electric tankless will require an upgrade as well ... on the electric circuit. A typical electric tank takes a 25 to 30 amp circuit. Electric tankless can be high as 120 amps depending on the needed capacity. Capacity in tankless terms means the heating power required to raise the desired rate of water flow (gallons per minute) from the starting point (lowest tap-water temp experienced during the winter season) to the desired output temperature (typically at least 120ÃÂ°F for a kitchen with a dishwasher). If your house has a large-enough existing electric drop from the pole, then you'd only have to run a larger circuit from the breaker box. Otherwise you'd also have to upgrade the service drop from the pole.

The biggest difference that I know of is that the current model of the combi-steam oven has a "full surface grill", which is essentially a broiler behind glass. It's not as powerful as the one in the big oven, and more for people who don't want to have to buy a regular oven as well just to get a broiler. The new ones also have touch to open (you can buy an optional handle). The model that's supposed to come out in the Spring is hyped as being able to do sous vide, but that's press release stuff, and how well it does is yet to be seen. With the availability of low cost immersion circulators, I think this is probably a feature whose immediacy has passed during the time it took to develop it. OTOH, it portends well for a very accurate oven -- even moreso than the what Gaggenau has always been known for. I have the same generation ovens (different combi-steam -- is the 260 tank?). They've been fantastic for about five years. I thought the full factory guarantee was five years? Which means you'd just get the two years that are left. Do make sure with Gaggenau that the warranty gets transferred to you--it shouldn't be hard, but is necessary, and you should line it up before you actually buy. OTOH, given the way you've phrased the question, if you can afford new, you get all the benefits of new. Store display models have been loved by many, but they're usually the folks who can't even consider the price of new.

We have a Swivel Sweeper. Absolutely love it.
We have the old style. The new style is even better.
We got ours from Amazon.com cheaper than the infomercial.

I have a Bissell 3 way, which I have had many a year. And it keeps on working.

I have an old and a new Swivel Sweeper. Like the old better cause it seems to pick up better, BUT THE NEW ONE I like the handles and easier to empty.

I have a Dirt Devil electric broom that I would gladly give you.

Personally I had rather grab a real broom and a dust pan for miner jobs. I use the hand held Dyson for quick pickups. It only runs 6 minutes,but that has been sufficient for my use.

The electric broom is heavier than a real broom. It has never picked up everything at one sweep. Have to go over 1 or 2 more times. Then it has to be plugged back in.

It is practically new, but I am going to give it to someone just to get it out of my way.

Soxxxx......no thankyou. I had the Dirt Devil electric broom and what a waste of money. If I was still at my home where all the floors were hard floors except the carpeted living room, i would look into the Swivel Sweeper. But now I just have the kitchen and bathroom floors that are uncarpeted, and I can stand in one place and sweep the whole room.

I purchased a Eureka electric "broom" from Walmart several months ago. I absolutely love it. I have mostly hardwood in my home but this appliance has a carpet setting also which does quite a good job. I haven't used my larger vac for a long long time. The only complaint I have is that the "bag" fills up quickly but it is easy to empty. I really love it and I think it was around 20.00. Satine

When I was doing a Web search to see what was out there (wanted an easy way to pick up dog hair), I was struck by the fact that these are generally cordless rechargeables that seem to lose their charge very quickly.

(I used the Froogle.com part of Google, which lists products and stores, and then you can click to see product reviews; I also read product reviews on Target's Web site.)

I haven't bought one yet.
