I have seen this, but agree it should be publicized more. It's a beautiful and moving sight.

I have read of this for several years and even the little "Yuma Sun" newspaper carried the story a few days ago. It has become a huge "do" that has been covered on some TV stations... and it deserves continuing coverage. Makes me proud to be an American and brings tears to my eyes. Thank you Susan, for posting this.

Beautiful and so touching.

I live right outside DC and I've heard this story many a time. I *think* sometimes they solict for local volunteers to lay the wreaths because there are so many?

That is a very touching sight to see. It seems the media tends to focus more on the negative, bad news - big bad greedy company kind of news vs. more positive company news such as this.

I've seen that before as well, what an honor to pay to those who sacrificed it all for us. We have visited Arlington a few times, the Sentinals at the Tomb of the Unknowns always touch my heart.

Here is a link that might be useful: The Tomb Guards

Thanks so much just sent it around

That is beautiful, and yet so sad. What a wonderful person. What goes around....

Brings tears to my eyes.....

Wow.

Thankyou for this.

Trace Adkins has a song out called Arlington. It is a song that grows and soon the message is clear. I hope you can hear it on YouTube.

I have offered to volunteer but they have many. I wash the Vietnam Memorial with others. It is a very special job that volunteers take quite seriously.

That's beautiful.

We have a young boy in our area that asked his dad why all of the graves at our veterans cemetery did not have wreaths, we now have "Wreaths across America" the goal is to place a wreath on every stone. Will be placing this Saturday.

This is a heart warming gesture, and the display is wonderful. There's no argument there, but the contrarian in me wonders if that effort could have been better spent. I was raised in a culture where every penny had to count.

What if the wreath compny gave those wreaths to the school organization that sponsors a class trip to Washington D. C. They could sell the wreaths at $5 each as a fund raiser to support their activity. Let's see, that would be $25,000 if all 5000 wreaths were sold. Now there's a problem: selling that many wreaths. They'd have to organize and sell outside their area.

The wreath company could generate the same amoount of good will while saving the cost of transportation. There is an additional cost: Someone has to place these wreaths and then remove those after the holidays. That cost money, too, possibly tax payers money.

I know! I know! Its a wondeful display and I'm not bashing it. In addition to the gift by the wreath company, they also provided jobs for those who made the wreaths. I'm just wondering if the costs could have been put to a more productive use. Like I said, my home culture could not afford any amount of waste.

Alisande, I wasn't aware of this beautiful tribute. My dad died in 1966 and is buried at Arlington. Thank you......

My inlaws are buried at Calverton Cemetery in Long Island. He was in WW2. We visit for birthdays, Mother and Fathers Day, Christmas, and we see the grounds are beautifully tended. Many people leave wreathes and flowers around Memorial and Veterans Day. They are cleared up a few days later.

God Bless the kids from Maine. Perhaps this could become a tradition with different high schools taking part each year.

they will be laying ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND WREATHS THIS YEAR THE CONVOY OF TRUCKS LEFT MAINE ON TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY THERE WERe 22 TRUCKS CARRYING THE WREATHS POLICE ESCOUTS & FIRETRUCKS & PGR IT IS 5 MILES LONG I WATCHED A VIDEO OF IT IT WAS AN AWESOME SIGHT TO SEE LINDA WEEEKS PROUD MOM OF AAMERICAN FALLEN HERO

I am with you, jemdandy.

I'm just wondering if the costs could have been put to a more productive use.

It depends on one's definition of productive. I see your point, but I think the other side has merit, too.

"What if the wreath compny gave those wreaths to the school organization that sponsors a class trip to Washington D. C. "

Then those wreaths would not be on the graves... missing the whole point.

"What if the wreath compny gave those wreaths to the school organization that sponsors a class trip to Washington D. C. "

I think that the company has the right to donate in any way they feel moved to.

A lovely gesture, but I certainly see Jem's point.

On last night's TV news was a story about "Vacations for Veterans". Veterans and their familys get a free week at a lodge, resort, wherever to relax and rebond. Anyone know anything about that?
