My DS had a beer brewing kit. Remembered he made chocolate beer and it wasn't bad.

Dh got one from DD#1 last year. He became a beer mister maniac for a year! My linen closet was emptied out so the beer could age, and it was insane.
He bought an extra keg and more yeast and crap than I can remember.
After about 9 months, he started buying store beer again..
Whew! It was fun while it lasted...at least for him.

DD#4 and her DH have made a couple of batches, and enjoy it. My oldest DGS and his brother are really into it, trying many different recipes. Some of the kits are used for wine making also....I think I would like to try that.

I do love beer, but doubt I'd like the home-brewed stuff... I like weak beer.

Unfortunately I've just started the anti-candida diet and have had to switch to vodka and tequila. It packs a punch, I've discovered.

my dh has been brewing crafted beer for 20+ yrs. i don't drink much beer, we have very differenet tastes and it's not worth doing 5gal for the 1-2 bottles i'll drink lol. weather here is very limiting as we can not keep the house cold enough june-oct and i'm not spending more than $400 a month for a/c set under 80 degrees! he just got 2 new kits from the link, austin home brew, a few weeks ago. they have very crafted type beers that are not your run-of-the-mill flavors or kits. many of these require 32qt stainless steel pots cooking over a turkey fryer for hours and hours plus cold fermentation in brew fridges. we also have 2 local wine/brew shops for supplies and there are even clubs & meet-ups for home brewers lol.

this is a winter hobby for dh :-) so far this winter we've had cold weather which means he should get lots of bottles done lol but little fishing in, his other hobby. ~ liz

Lydia, I think vodka and tequila would knock me on my butt! I don't drink much anymore though, except wine coolers sometimes.

ohh forgot about the hard apple cider...dh did a batch over thanksgiving. he found cool cobalt blue grolsch bottles cheap at our local shop called Hearts Home Brew. BTW wal-mart has had the best price for apple juice that he has found. dh has been drinking a bit of the cider and it is quite strong...blahhhh not for me lol

just a funny note on the amount of space this hobby takes up. last month we got a new LED tv and new furniture for all of our entertainment stuff. i was more concerned about needing to get new furniture and what to do w/ the old solid oak entertainment center DH built and stained. i was worried he'd b mad i was moving it out of the livingroom (and into the garage) after only a few yrs and all the work he put into it. well he quickly thought of a new home for it lol in his office room and he would use it as a brew cabinet for all of his junk! yeah that worked out sooo well lol! ~ liz

My husband makes great beer! Like Bigfoot Liz's husband, he has to brew in the winter (surprise, it gets hot in Texas' summers!). Thank heavens we have two bathrooms. NO, not because of the beer consumption--if anything blows, it does so in the extra shower stall and I can just hose down the disaster.
Williams Brewing has good supplies, too. Google them, since I can't find their catalog and give you their website.
