My Christmas Eve at a beautiful house (pics)

I spent Christmas Eve at this gorgeous house with my daughter and her family--the home of her boyfriend's brother and his partner. It's a lovely place to be.

I didn't use flash, so it's not a great way to photograph people......unless they don't move a muscle.

Thank you for all the lovely comments, I have to say this is the first Christmas in a long time I've had everything done without a lot of running around at the last minute, it sure was a nice feeling. Vikki the tree topper is a small wreath with lights, in the center there are three little candles. It didn't show very well because we took the pictures without the flash. I bought it at a Boxing Day sale a couple of years ago for $2.99 :o). Tried a couple of other tree toppers first but they didn't look right. We are off to our daughters for "The Turkey Dinner" tonight, for quite a few years now we've had our Christmas dinner on boxing day. This way everybody gets a chance to just hang out and relax on Christmas day. I hope everybody had a very enjoyable Christmas with family and friends....Annette

K, I just had to bring this thread back up and say WOW WOW WOW! Being a newbie here I've gone back and checked out each page to see what I missed. So many beautiful pictures and such a great "family" atmosphere. You have a beautiful home and I love all of your decorations. My favorite is the room with the tree in the urn done in white lights and silver decorations with the wreath over the mirror. So elegant,serene, and peaceful looking. Is it a bedroom? I just want to curl up in bed and see that sight. I have a large family also and love the way you treated your dining room. I have to find a skinny tree. Yours is perfect for that space and beautifully decorated with those angels, and are they gold tassels I see on it also? I never thought to put a nativity scene inside a wreath. I love them and have gotten a few over the years. I think I may have one similar to yours. I will use your idea next Christmas if you don't mind. Gosh, all of you are so talented!!! Especially you and Judith. I could, and do, spend hours looking at your posts and trying to absorb it all to help this poor beginner make my home more welcoming. I've so enjoyed all of your tablesetting posts with all of that glorious food! Do you post recipes on the recipe forum also? If so, you know where my next stop will be! My DH will be MOST appreciative.LOL How do you handle the little ones when it is time to eat? Do they sit at the dining room table, or do you have a more kid (and crystal & china) friendly table set up. I'm sorry to say there are some little visitors who would destroy some of the nice stuff quickly at my house!!! Thanks again for taking the time to share your talent with us. Sorry this is so long. I just read your reply on Alisande's post about your person of the year being your kids and you mentioned they are 22 and 21, so I had to come back here and look again. Holy cow!! I thought they were about 18 and 15. Let's hope those youthful looks carry on with them for many years LOL!!

Sorry, OT; but what setting do you use to take such pretty photos in half-light? My camera will most often lighten everything.

I'm feeling better thanks to regular doses of aspirin, the wonder drug! :-)

Schoolhouse, I used my Panasonic Lumix camera to take these pictures. (The latest version is the FZ35, but I don't have that one......yet.) :-) It has a setting called Party, which takes pictures in low incandescent light, but adds blue to counteract the yellow in most light bulbs. It doesn't use a fast enough shutter to stop action, but I love the effect for situations like the above.

These are a little dark, but I still prefer them to flash for capturing the mood of a room.

Susan, your photos are wonderful, I love the way the lights glow on the tree and the house is beautiful. How tall was that tree? It looks like a wonderful get together.

I was trying to see what makes the tree so darn pretty, and I think one thing might be that they used the strands of lights with bigger bulbs? Instead of the wee little ones? Looks super on a big tree like that.

Thanks, alisande. I know so little about cameras,still figuring out my digital I got last year! I think there is a setting on mine for such situations but it's done manually. I'm afraid of messing everything up so I don't fool with it.

Thanks for your comments, everyone. I'm guessing the tree is about 12 feet tall. Wouldn't do too well with my 7 ft. ceilings. :-)
