want info about gift I am thinking about buying

Do any of you have one of those blanket/throw/wrap thingies that you plug in? (like a mini-electric blanket) If so, do you like it? Thinking about getting one of those for my Mom..

I don't have one now, but I've had one in the past and enjoyed it. However, now I have a wrap around that is heavy cotton on one side and fleece on the other and that is cozy. I also have now an electric mattress pad.

Just make sure she has a convenient plug for it .

OMG my favorite and I was sick myself when I read it so it was too funny but bad also for the coughing. I forgot to mention the ovulation warning - squeemish men beware too. Yes, I am typing the report, I swear! "And also, my ears are unbearably itchy and I'd like to take a bottle brush to my eustachian tubes. I had a horrible dream last night that someone had removed the cotton from all my Q-Tips and I was left with just paper sticks and stringy bits of fluff that I tried in vain to wind around one another and jam into my ears but it didn't work, oh woe! kay- It will just give you a long time to add to your springwoods garden order. I know it took me a very long time to decide on my choices as my list was a yard long. And I bought 14 of them so its not as if I only got afew but had such a difficult time deciding which to cross off the list. This fall I will be ordering more Emmerich intros and I am sure that those plants that I didn't get will be back on this list. Kay-phal - Thank you for your suggestion of a late bloomer. I first looked it up on Tinkers and what came up looks nothing like your daylily, wider pedals and much more orange. I did a general search and found what might be it with not such a great picture. Both list it as mid late. Maybe not going to bloom late enough for me here but I will deffinately keep it in mind.

Deb, I am the same way. My brother passed away over a year ago (I did not find out about that until 2 months afterward), and my mother just this past January. I think about death almost all the time now, and if not exactly death, then how my end will come, what disease will I get, who will take care of me. I read about the wonderful people on the caregivers forum, and as I have no children, I wonder what will become of me (I'm 45). What happens to those who can no longer speak for themselves? What happens? Sometimes the fear grips me so bad, I fear "losing it". Maybe that will be my punishment for not helping with the caregiving for my mother, and now for my very ill father. My sister was/is in charge of all that. Why? A long story...and I feel that although I am not entirely blameless in how things turned out, the twists and turns of our lives, our actions, our words, or lack of them, our whole family, led to the tragic situation as it unfolded. But I still feel guilt. When not thinking about death, I have other such morbid thoughts, like having visions/dreams of someone chopping down all my old trees after I'm gone, bulldozing my beloved perennial garden, throwing out my knick-knacks, books, letters.... Just as a "want to waste some time option", you might start with a real map (real paper... I know, completely unheard of nowadays) and a simple school pencil compass. Use the compass to make several concentric circles with your home location at the center. This would give you a rough idea of how far you could or even want to drive in an average day. By using the mile indicator located on the map somewhere, you could set up the circles at perhaps 100 to 500 mile distances from one another. Secondly, make a list (even a mental one) of the cities, burgs, and attractions between two or more circles. While not perfect, this will give you an idea of a couple of things. First, we will know that I/we don't mind driving XXX miles per day and secondly, what might be available to see and do within that preferred mileage suggestion. Thirdly, reduce that defined area by picking a compass direction that seems most advantageous to what you want to see and do on your (pick some number of days and insert here) trip. Realistically, the compass direction may have to be determined more on available roadways than on actual compass points but then, what's a good trip without a few side trips. If you have even more spare time, start to look up commercial tours, where they go, what they include as sightseeing attractions, etc. You don't have to actually take the tours but rather, use their advertising $ and experience to plan your own trip. The internet is wonderful for these uses since it goes everywhere with no cost other than what you're already paying per month for the service. Every state and most of the mid to larger sized cities also now have a load of information on locations, attractions, and so on... all neatly arranged dated and free to you. I've probably stated the above concepts poorly but maybe you can glean a bit of information that will make planning a bit easier.

Why wouldn't she like it? I've seen some that look like you'd have to untangle yourself to get up, but just a simple blanket might be nice if she likes to sit a while, watching TV or whatever. The only thing she might find troublesome is the cord. But the inconvenience might be worth it to be warm and cozy.

I think this would be nice if her house is cold or she lives in a cold climate.

We have one...DH loves it. He gets colder than I do and can leave the heat on in here for hours without noticing. I can't handle the house too warm, I get headaches from the heater. I bought him one years ago and he still uses it every winter. I just brought it out for him today. It's getting cold here now!

I have one that my DD bought me several years ago that I use at my thrift shop in cold weather as the temp never does get very warm and I get cold when sitting. I really like it.

I have another one that I bought and I use it on our bed putting it on top of the top sheet and under the blanket, at the foot of the bed. I turn it on an hour or so before going to bed and turn it off when I get in bed, then my feet are toasty warm and no cold sheets.

We have two, and love them. I've taken one to my office because it's always freezing there in the winter (the server room, which is nearby, has to be kept very, very cold for the servers [computer equipment, not restaurant servers - LOL]).

I have one and love it except it is so big and hard to fold. The circulation in my legs is very bad so that is the only way to get them warm at times. The one I have now is a Sunbeam and is like two pieces of fleece with the wires inside. I think the kind that is more like an electric blanket is better,but still too big.

I used to have an electric blanket, which I loved, but there was a scare about electric waves causing cancer, so I thrw it away. Now that it's December, I really miss it! I went to bed last night with heated booties on-it felt sooooo good!

I don't have one, but I like the one I see advertised on TV now. Not electric, but it is real long and has sleeves which allows you to have your arms free. I think if I had one that was plugged in I would forget and try to get up to answer the phone, etc, while I'm wrapped up in it, and pull the cord out.

I do enjoy an electric blanket.

Got one for Christmas in 1990 and love it. (I fold it length-wise since that's how the wiring runs to avoid too much bending, and out of season keep it in the original zippered cover.) It's been washed many times & dried on clothesline with no folds & pins kept above wiring.

It's just perfect during cold weather for afternoon naps & across bum knee while watching TV.

I have them and love them, and wouldn't ever want to be without one, or more if BF is here.

I found them on winter clearance a couple of years ago, and bought up 5 extras to have and give as gifts. $13 each...what a bargain.

I gave BF 2 of them so we could each have one when I am visiting at his house. It's great for napping on the couch, or for use in the recliner. The cord has never been a problem.

I remember I bought mine at Walgreens and it wasn't bulky at all. My daughter has one in her truck that plugs into the cigarette lighter for the dog.

My late mother gave DH and me a two-part king sized electric blanket one year. She's been gone since 1973, so you know that was a long time ago. It's still working! I use my half under the mattress pad; turn it on before bed; off when I get into bed. DH has always been too hot to want to use his half until this winter.
