I was cleaning out sock drawer the other day, found 30 bucks in the toe of one, guess I had hidden it, lol.

I was in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl, long long time ago, and was leaving restaurant when I spied $20 on the sidewalk!

I was in the 4th grade. My Dad had taken me to Vacation Village in San Diego for a weekend trip. We rented bikes and were about to ride around the area. We had gone a ways away from the stores and I found $20.00 on the ground. I still remember that to this day!

I've found a few pennies and a dime or two on the ground in parking lots in recnt months, and a nickel (that I was hoping to have been a quarter).

Will you accept finding an equivalent?

My friend saves beer and liquor bottles, then lets me haul them away in my car ... funny, lacking a vehicle, he seems to have no trouble being able to get the rather heavy, filled bottles and cans home from the store, but seems much less enthusiastic about returning the (much lighter) empties for the refund of the 10 cent deposit for each.

I pick up empties along the street/roadside, as well. I got about $20.00 a couple of months ago, and over $7.00 last week. Actually, I bought a case for him a couple of months ago ... and thus far have given him four. Am keeping quite a few of them to give to him after Christmas, which is a rather thin season for him, income-wise.

Pop cans used to be about 55 cents for 32 or so, then were up near 70 cents for a while, but down around 55 vcents now, I think. The problem is that the scrap dealers are not near my ordinary roads of travel and I'm reluctant to make a special trip.

Maybe it'd be a good idea to put found money away as an investment - make it produce more like itself.

A few years ago when a security guard colleague, who'd been slightly injured while on duty at a hospital, received a cheque from the Victims of Violence Compensation Fund, I suggested that he hang on to it, investing it, letting it develop a fund over the years to help finance his retirement, as security guards had no pension plan (are you kidding??).

He needed to use part of it for car repairs ... don't know whether he hung on to any of it.

Several months ago a fellow whom I met while he was working in my friend's auto body repair shop, and who sprayed the underbody of my car to reduce salt damage, sent a number of wine jugs with me for refund. I gave him $2.00, kept something over $1.00 for my trouble. When he expressed surprise, as he'd told me to keep the refund, I told him that he was the owner of the goods - I was just the trucker!

DD found a crumpled $100 bill on the steps to her apartment building in the big city. No one posted a sign looking for it. I think she had been laid off at that time too. She put it to good use.

We went to Hobby Lobby this past Saturday...spent 42 dollars.
Was going to the truck and spied money on the ground.All folded up like it was from a back pocket.No one around....so I picked it up ,got in the truck...40 bucks! Whoever was parked there before us must have lost it or someone going in or out.

One year at Christmas time I was going into a Walmart and was about to step up onto the curb and spied some money laying on the ground, reached down and picked it up. It was all folded up and I counted it, it was 400.00. Well let me tell you, was I surprised, but knew I could not keep it. This was probably some families Christmas money (who knows?) I went into the store and went right to the service desk and gave it to the woman working there and told her I found it. I was not thinking, stupid, stupid. I should have asked to speak with the manager or something, or even called the local police and turned it in so there was some record of it. For all I know, that woman pocketed it. Don't know, I just know that I feel that I did the right thing, and whatever happened after that they had to live with. I would hope someone would do that for me if it happened to me. Probably wouldn't though.

Tralynn, you did what you thought was right, but after hearing stories of people keeping found money that was turned into them to try to find the owner I decided if I find anything of value, even money, I will go to the customer service dept or the owner of the business and tell them what I found without describing it and leave my phone number for someone who says they lost it let them call me then describe it. If it was where there wasn't a nearby business I would contact the police and do the same with them.

I was once walking in the fall, looking down at the leaves on the street. Then I found a wad of dollar bills mixed in with the leaves. It was about 6 dollars. Once found a 20 dollar bill all folded up on the floor of my local Rite Aid.

When I used to work, I rode the train and then walked to my office. I'd pass the parking meters and always look for change someone had dropped. I hit the jackpot one year when it snowed for a few days, after it melted there were lots of coins!

Once a homeless couple asked me for some money on my way to lunch. I felt bad and gave them a dollar or two. While I was waiting for my sandwich I spied a $20 bill near the trash can. I looked around but no one was there. I've often thought that was karma for helping the couple!

Found a $20 at Radio Shack (back when those stores used to have a Tandy crafts section -- leather craft kits, gimp, etc) when I was probably around 12. I wish I could recall what I spent it on!

Also found some money left in a dryer at the laundromat. It's clear how that got there! It was a couple of $20s. I used part of it to right next door to a great Italian deli and buy lunch.

I think it's all karma. A few years ago, I left my change from a movie ticket at the ticket counter. I guess I just got distracted somehow. Someone got a nice lunch out of that, too!

I found $20 today! However it was in my winter jacket pocket and had been there since last season. I was happy I was $20 richer than I thought!

I love that! Finding a 20 when you put on your winter coat in the fall is always fun!

My son found a 20 last winter, frozen in the ice in his driveway. He chipped it out and thawed and dried it. He also found a $100 bill last summer, in a big parking lot. He must have a talent that leads him to money :-)
