> About 2 years ago my wife and I were on a cruise through the western Mediterranean aboard a Princess liner. At dinner we noticed an elderly lady sitting alone along the rail of the grand stairway in the main dining room. I also noticed that all the staff, ships officers, waiters, busboys, etc., all seemed very familiar with this lady. I asked our waiter who the lady was, expecting to be told that she owned the line,but he said he only knew that she had been on board for the last four cruises, back to back.

> As we left the dining room one evening I caught her eye and stopped to say hello. We chatted and I said, "I understand you've been on this ship for the last four cruises". She replied, "Yes, that's true." I stated, "I don't understand" and she replied, without a pause, "It's cheaper than a nursing home".

> So, there will be no nursing home in my future. When I get old and feeble, I am going to get on a Princess Cruise Ship. The average cost for a nursing home is $200 per day. I have checked on reservations at Princess and I can get a long term discount and senior discount price of $135 per day. That leaves $65 a day for:

> 1. Gratuities which will only be $10 per day.

> 2. I will have as many as 10 meals a day if I can waddle to the restaurant, or I can have room service (which means I can have breakfast in bed every day of the week).

> 3. Princess has as many as three swimming pools, a workout room, free washers and dryers, and shows every night.

> 4. They have free toothpaste and razors, and free soap and shampoo.

> 5 They will even treat you like a customer, not a patient. An extra $5 worth of tips will have the entire staff scrambling to help you.

> 6. I will get to meet new people every 7 or 14 days.

> 7. T.V. broken? Light bulb need changing? Need to have the mattress replaced? No Problem! They will fix everything and apologize for your inconvenience.

> 8. Clean sheets and towels every day, and you don't even have to ask for them.

> 9. If you fall in the nursing home and break a hip you are on Medicare; if you fall and break a hip on the Princess ship they will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life.

> Now hold on for the best! Do you want to see South America, the Panama Canal, Tahiti, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, or name where you want to go?

> Princess will have a ship ready to go. So don't look for me in a nursing home, just call shore to ship.

> PS - And don't forget, when you die, they just dump you over the side at no charge.

I do know there are those that do that.

Met a man once, who wanted me to share bingo cards, who was staying on the ship. Think it was called a "turnaround" thingie.

They do not dump deceased passengers over the side of the ship. That is just not true.

A co-worker of mine has a daughter who is waiting for a kidney, a Canadian film maker just did a documentary about their family and about how in India, people sell thier kidneys, it is a poor village where they sell thier kidneys as an income, I wish I could give a kidney or help people with even donating my blood, but was told I can't cuz of hep A. I'm with heather! I guess I don't mind an occasional snowy day. Some days here, you look out the window and it is so beautiful, it looks just like being on the inside of a snow globe with huge fluffy white snow coming down.... only for hours and hours and hours and hours.... We have lake effect snow and often get 10-12 inches a day for several days a week. Last year we had only a 'little bit' of snow at 169 inches for the season. The year before it was about 200 inches. What I hate is dealing with it. The snow moving, slush, piling up in the yard (we end up with about a 12-14 foot pile in front of our house), having to wear snow 'gear', walking puppies in it 3 times a day then having to restrict them to the kitchen until they are dry so they don't mess up the furniture, slippery roads, I could go on and on... No, I don't much like snow.. or actually winter! If Gary's job were as portable as mine, we'd go south for the winter :-) But it's not... so we wait for retirement....

There's also a somewhat pared-down ER on board if you need a doctor. But...if you need more extensive medical care, you will be put ashore at the next port. Having had a kidney stone crisis aboard a ship, I chose to tough it out and fly home rather than be put into a hospital in Venice. We were on cruise where a helicopter came to airlift a passenger who'd had a heart attack ashore -- to an atoll in the Caribbean, thence to St. Thomas, thence back to USA.

dilly.I am sure glenda was just kidding. But my husband keeps telling me he doesn't want to be buried. Just put him out with the trash. Of course I won't do that but we have both said we want to be cremated and our ashes spread somewhere. I just don't want to take up any room after I am gone. Cemetaries are pretty and interesting but will the whole world be covered with them sooner or later?

Sounds good to me, but I can't do it. I need kidney dialysis three times a week. Princess will only accomodate those who do Perotoneal Dialysis (through the abdomen) and the person must provide his/her own equipment and supplies. I get hemodialysis (through my arm) in a hospital setting, so no cruising for me. Sob! I've been on two Princess cruises (when I was well, before dialysis became necessary) and they send me information all the time. It's torture!

jannie -- Sorry you can't cruise anymore! My father was on dialysis for ten years; 'tain't easy. He tried the abdominal at home when it was something new but it wasn't effective for him, and eventually the infection risk is worse.

We can all 'cruise' here!
