Hey, did you know I could skate?

Yeah. Neither did I LOL! We've had some frozen rain, and the driveway was covered. I was trying to get to the car, but started sliding downward. I was powerless. All I could do was slide and hope when it stopped I would still have all my original parts intact ;). Once I got to the end of the driveway I was fine (they had salted the road). But how to get back UP the driveway to the car again?

DD came to rescue me in her new boots. We were slipping and sliding and giggling like fools. Of course, we were late for school. After I got back home I parked in a different spot and walked across the grass to get to the house - who would have rescued me if I got stuck on the driveway again?

Then when I let Ruby out, she did a "bambi" slide across the patio - ROFLMAO! Flat on her belly legs splayed out. She wasn't hurt, but it took her a minute to figure out how to stand up again. I thought she would be scared and want in. But nope. The goof spent the next 10 minutes running back and forth across the patio, slipping and sliding and barking at things under the ice. What a nut.

That is a very funny image! Especially Ruby on the icy patio!

I'm trying to picture it. Would you believe my kids wore shorts to school today? It was 75 today. Warm even for here. Yesterday it hit 78 and set a record high for the date!

Janice,mine grows in morning sun,and,so far,it doesn't look too bad. I'll take a pic of it tomorrow,but be advised,it isn't too big yet. It is putting on more leaves than last year,so that's an improvement. I had to move it,because it wasn't growing too well,because it had a big tree root right under it. You have to understand,this plant was a bare-root hosta from a bag of ten Frances Williams,I planted back in 2003! They are all still alive,and some are doing a lot better than others. This was back before I didn't know 'A' about hostas! Phil

All, I was just pointing out a modicum of truth to the cartoon--which made it funny to myself and a friend. The same friend directed me to this forum about a year ago by saying, "you have to check out this website. These people are fanatical about ranges." He went on, "especially the Ã¢ÂÂbattleÃ¢ÂÂ between the Blue Star and the Capital Culinarian." So I've been reading for quite some time. My interest is from the standpoint of the release of a new cooking product and how the initial rollout is received by the business, or on the residential side in this case, the people. As I've stated, I don't own one so only could make comments derived from the following posts (which I did not write) which are titled: "culinarian oven racks are disappointing" and Ã¢ÂÂwok use on the culinarian wok grate observationÃ¢ÂÂ Does anyone know if the rolling racks are the same in a self-clean oven and a manual clean oven? Sorry for going OT, but CA's rep for higher education is no longer worthy of automatic praise. Things have changed a lot and not for the better when it comes to all levels of education in the state. The University of CA system is NOT cheap any longer. In fact, as an example, UC Berkeley is slightly more expensive than the prestigious private StanfordUniversity across the Bay: Google question: How much does it cost to go to Berkeley? TUITION AND EXPENSES Cost of Attendance In-state: $34,972 Out-of-state: $61,654 Tuition and Fees In-state: $13,485 Out-of-state: $40,167 Room and Board $15,115 Books and Supplies $1,240 Other Expenses $5,132 (I'm assuming those above costs for room/board are dorm prices. Quadruple them if you are looking to live off-campus, then factor in transportation costs and time.) The state college system is less expensive but financially stressed. Both systems have woefully underfunded employee pension funds, btw. HOWEVER, one (actually two) very big advantages are the two polytechnic campuses, both in Southern/Central CA: Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. The latter is one of the best schools in the country, ranking high on many factors. Cars are pretty much a necessity in CA, but definitely if you're going East/West, or living in Southern/Central CA (you can almost get away without owning a car in the San Francisco Bay Area. Sort of,). All through the West Coast, the roads North/South are the major arteries for commercial traffic so they're the eight/ten-lane roads. The East/South driveability isn't anywhere near as good, and as traffic increases the commuter frustration increases exponentially with it. I agree the wisest thing to do is wait, see how your daughter likes it and try visiting a few times first. CA is a great place to live if you like it, but a lot of people come here and only stay a few years. The reasons for leaving are varied but real: can't afford a home, can't stand the traffic/commute, most activities are expensive (price those Disneyland tickets, wowie!), can't deal with the ever-shifting cultural scene - and very often these days: "if I want a job I have to move". I sincerely hope your daughter enjoys her new city and gets happily settled! But it's not a given, not any longer (I came in 1969 for good and yes, have seen some amazing changes; some welcome, some not so much).

My parents were both very good skaters and they used to take us roller skating. It was one thing my father would actually do with us--he didn't like sports, concerts, or camping. We had the clip-on skates for the neighborhood sidewalks, but rented skates at the rink. I was thrilled when my feet grew big enough that I could use my mom's white leather skates. My kids started skating early, with the little plastic toddler skates, then we bought them their own skates and eventually roller blades. I just bought skates for both of my grandsons. The local rink where my kids skated was recently sold and turned into a Dollar Tree. I hadn't been there to skate in many years, and I wouldn't even try it now.

LOL When I let Loki out on Sunday afternoon he fell on the ice too, flat on his stomach. I don't know who was more shocked me or the dog. LOL He wouldn't come back in and stayed on the grass out back and waited until he saw me open the door before he would attempt to cross the ice covered patio.

My brother decided we were going to make our annual trek to Kingsville to Lakeshore Park to look at the lights. I could barely get off my porch and I was hooting and hollering when I started to lose control. I don't know why he couldn't have waited to go another day but I was unsure about him driving on the slippery roads. Actually the roads in the county weren't bad but the city roads were slippery. I couldn't believe the bozos on Highway 3 who decided to pass more than 3 cars at a time with oncoming traffic in sight when it was so icey out. They are putting everyone else in jeopardy.

Our annual thing is we stop for coffee at Timmy's, eat candy canes in the car, he tells us to close our eyes when he drives by the park, get out (had to walk on the grass because the sidewalks were too icey) find Chip and Mrs Pots and as soon as we find them we leave the park then go eat at McD's. All that driving on a slippery road for 5 minutes in the park. LOLOL
He said that it is our tradition but he wants to write the organizers a letter and have them separate Mrs Pots and Chip next year so they are harder to find or don't put them in the same spot every year. LOL

I got home and Ken was outside cleaning off his truck. I forgot about the ice and walked across my neighbour's lawn until I stepped onto her flagstone along the driveway then I skated across. LOL I thought for sure I was going to go down but I guess I know how to skate too. LOL

I remember when I worked at a ski resort in NJ. The parking lot was icy at closing, then it started to rain. I worked in the kitchen so I was parked in a back now deserted parking lot. The car was a little ways up a hill. I could NOT get up there! It was literally one step forward, 2 slides back now matter what I did or where I tried going up. I finally gave up and tired crawling. That didn't help a bit. Never in my life did I ever have that much trouble. I was going nowhere. Another coworker came out and somehow managed to pull me up the hill but we slid around for quite a while. Those were the days! I think I'll stick with life in Orlando. It was in the 80's today. I wore a short sleeve shirt, capri's, and crocs.
