No snow here, it's just colder'n a well diggers elbow, actually it warmed up a bit but the sun is going down so who knows what the night will bring ;0)

Midwestern Michigan here, we got about 4-5" last night. It is beautiful!!

oh, Marianne, please try nicotiana suaveolens - this was new to me after pilfering seeds from our botanical gardens last year. Unlike other Nicotianas, it has single elegant tubular flowers (although several grow along each thin and wiry stem) which easily grow 1m high and has a powerful scent for such dainty blooms - can send you some seeds if you like as I will certainly be saving more and growing them again. Not even sure whether it is annual or perennial (annual, I would guess, certainly flowers first year from a March sowing and is still flowering now) but, with tall pennisetum, this has been a revelation for me this year. Do let me know and I will send you my e.mail address- i think we could get away with a few little seeds, don't you? I can't seem to change my details on 'my page' which has not been updated since 2003. I believe the N.suaveolens would look lovely with the calamagrostis and. although the seed is tiny, it is easy like all nicotianas. There is also a small limnanthes (poached egg plant) which comes in just white (meringue, i think it is called from Thompson and Morgan or Chilterns seeds)which made a delightful edging and a change from the ubiquitous alyssum. There is also a much smaller foxglove (instead of D.purpurea alba) called snow thimbles (Nicky's seeds) which is perennial for me and only grows to 90cm. Oh, also another annual, omphalodes linifolia, almost cloudy grey with glaucous leaves, will seed around too. What a lovely project, will look forward to hearing about your successful and glowing scene. Ooops, fogetting the wonderful campanula persicifolia - brilliant plant with lovely evergreen rosettes - although I am sure you probably have these.

Hi, Sumac. It's the West Elm Nailhead Trim Daybed. It's in linen, and is a true twin size. Mine is in the "flax" color. It can be assembled to put the "corner" on either side. The bottom is webbed slats similar to what you see on IKEA pieces, but a bit sturdier. The matching linen mattress cover is extra, but I bought it so I'd have a true sofa look. Beware, though, that the mattress cover is gracious in dimensions, and is pretty baggy on the tempur-pedic 'mattress we're using. Having the back and one side makes it a tiny bit more of a hassle to make up, but not much (I remember this discussion from another recent daybed thread). Our foam mattress is very light, so I can just flip it up to put on the fitted sheet, and it's easy to slide it a bit to do the flat sheet. I don't worry about making up with a blanket or quilt -- I just put that at the foot of the bed and let the guest do as they will. I'd never had a daybed before, but knew I wanted one for this little room. I shopped for months before finally landing on this one, and waitied until there was a sale. It's usually $1,099, but I think I paid about $800-$899. The construction seems pretty solid. It feels solid when you sit down on it. It's been used for guests three times, for about a week each time. No one has raved, but no one has complained, either. I figure that's a win. It's excellent for napping!

There were two K - 6 schools in my town. When I started Junior High, I met a boy from the other school. We were together in a dance class, where we had male and female dance instructors. Bob and I were always chosen by the instructors to partner them when they demonstrated a new step, and Bob always chose me to partner him. He invited me to a hayride his church group was having that fall. We became 'steadies' through Junior High -- which meant, dear reader, that I wore the dog tags he had made in his name (probably at the local hobby shop or the Museum of Science and Industry). His parents took us to high school and college basketball games and we played badminton with them. He kissed me once -- in the back seat of his parents' car! (He had an older brother, and I think he had more 'ideas' than some of my school friends without sibs.) This all fell apart without warning at the end of our 8th Grade year. He asked a new girl in town to the graduation party! I was *devastated*. WHAT had I done wrong? Shortly before I met my DH, I was having a drink after work with a fellow I'd known since kindergarten. He brought up Bob's name and asked if I knew that he and two other boys I'd also known forever had beaten Bob up one day after school. Seems Bob had "greatly enlarged" upon our kiss. I was dumbfounded -- mostly because I had had no idea I had three protectors of my virtue! Bob became president of a large national firm, and he and his wife and three kids moved to the town where my DH and I had settled. His eldest son was our DS's baseball coach in a summer program. Another son played Little League with our boy. Bob and I never spoke more than, "Hello", but one day he came over to sit with DH and me at a game. He looked like he wanted to say something more than idle chit-chat, but was uncomfortable about it. The next I knew anything about Bob he'd shot himself one afternoon at home, unable to live with alcoholism. I've since heard that the 12-step program asks people to apologize to anyone they have 'wronged'.

Sara Ann , great topic !! It’s very helpful for those of us who don’t want to spray or obsess over spotty leaves . I was very happy with the three new intros from David Austin last year , Bathsheba, Roald Dahl and desdemona . Olivia did great too , posiden , and I knkw there were a few more but those stood out . I must have gotten lucky last year as I don’t remember black spot being too bad on many . I did want to encourage anyone , that my lavender lassie took a few years to outgrow bouts with black spot and also heavily repeat bloom . It’s so pretty . I love the color so much !

14 tonight with a high of 27 tomorrow. For Dec. in Minn. that's not bad, actually a little above average, I think.
About a foot of snow on the ground here.

I "blew" the whole driveway and both walkways Friday and again today and cleared out an area for the dog to do his business. Its up to his shoulders, so he has a hard time getting around. Now there is more stuff coming down. Have to get more gas for the blower!! It really isn't difficult. Its self-propelled and does quite well, as long as its under a foot or so. Darn snowplow just went thru and probably blocked the driveway again GGGRRRHHH.

About a foot and then some here in Eastern Ontario since this a.m.

There are horrible winds tho,and major drifting going on..its still bitter cold as well

No snow here. Was in the 80s yesterday, 70s today, and will be in the high 40s tonight, should be in the mid 60s tomorrow.

My contract with the real estate agent just expired, but we'd be willing to entertain offers (wink wink nudge nudge) :-P

On a serious note, I hope everyone stays warm and safe.

I don't know whether to blame it on the wind or the sleet, but our local TV stations are all knocked out. I heard PBS was still operational, but I can't get any station at all on my TVs. I hope nothing drastic happened to my antenna, which is situated 20 feet above the house.

The wind continues to be a major forceÂliterallyÂand will maintain its strength until about noon tomorrow. Meanwhile, since last night we've had alternating snow and sleet. Maybe some freezing rain, but the trees weren't covered by the time the sun went down tonight. When I woke up this morning I was surprised to see all the deep paths I'd made through Thursday's snow were gone. The surface of the snow was perfectly smooth, and covered with a thick layer of sleet.

Several friends lost electrical power. I just hope the wind doesn't cause more outages tonight.

24 degrees, north eastern Indiana, we have about a good foot of snow! What is usually an hours drive home from Ft.Wayne last night took an hour and a half! Most of the time it was blowing so hard that you just couldn't see very far.

It's cold in Houston. Last night & very early morning, the temp. went down to 32F degrees. Daytime was very windy and tonight, down to 32-34F degrees again.

I'm laying her on the floor laughing my "elbow" off hehehehe. I cleaned it up guys, I didn't want to say "arse", now that the sun is down it's colder than a "Witches pits" I cleaned that up too hahahahahaha!

Anybody know what a brass monkey is? ;0)

Eric is already in Elkins for the nightwith a prediction of 5-7 inches.

I have dish towels shoved into the gap around the front door. Cannot find weather stripping that will stay attached to the door jam!

It's horrible here with rain and then frozen rain all night and morning. DD and DS both have had no electricity since early AM..My yard is a forest and I am scared these winds up to 50 mph will cause branches to fall on house and car. It's 31 but feels like the teens.

It's 15 here in upstate NY, 0 with the wind chill. From what I can see so far, which isn't much, I'm going to have to use the snowblower again because of all the drifting from the awful wind last night. Good weight-bearing exercise ;-)

Today's activity - finish clearing the 37cm of snow only to have the plow go by right after and dump a 3 foot bank of snow across the drive! Arrrrrggghhhhh!!!!!

Been lucky to have the snow bypass my area of MD. But boy has it been windy. I keep my recycle bins right outside the kitchen doors. My yard looks like I dumped the thing all over the yard!!

Everyone's pictures are beautiful - I actually love snow, except when I have to go to work in it!!

Southern WI: Plenty of snow. We've had 23 inches total this month so far. About 1 ft on the ground now and more on the way on Friday, then a bigger snow predicted before Christmas. We will have a white Christmas this year! Temperatures have been running below normal - not like last year. Talk about global warming tapers off when we look at our heating bill.

It's about 60 degrees daytime here in the Florida panhandle (Pensacola). Around 45 at night. I've never had to shovel sunshine once since living here although I DO remember shoveling snow when we were stationed in New Hampshire years ago. Hope all of you in the north and mid-west are doing well.
