Is this another scam

DH got this letter in the mail.

G F Institute GF Insitute of Kansas City, Kansas

IMPORTANT RELEASE OF GOVERNMENT FUNDS pENDING.

tHEY ARE ATTEMPTING TO REACH him about this important matter. $25,000.00 estimate.

They need immediate action.The money can be used for bills, travel Or whatever. They want him to call . They have a release code number you have to give them.

Too good to be true so it won't be true.

I happened to be trolling the dollar store today, and I found this on the shelve, 2$ for 5L worth. I grabbed one just to test & see, but I wonder for others who may be familiar with this, if it seems to be another scam? It appears to be more for in-door plants.

My previous roommate's cat peed on the rug my mom bought me as a housewarming gift. It's a 3'x4' dark red shag-style rug. My roommate cleaned it with Nature's Miracle when it first happened, but after a day or so of still smelling the urine, we rolled the rug up and stuck it in the garage (where it sat for 3 or so months). Well, I just recently moved to New Orleans (I left the roommate and her damn cat behind!!) and would love to use my comfy carpet on my new hardwood floors. Problem is, as soon as I unrolled it I could smell the pee -- it stunk up my entire house in literally minutes! I've read through several related threads on this forum and most have been about wall-to-wall carpeting with padding, etc. rather than just an area rug. I'm not sure if I can throw the rug into an industrial laundry mat washer or use a steam cleaner on it since it is a shag-style rug... any ideas? I know I could just toss the rug and save myself the headache, stink, and money -- but I would really prefer to save it if at all possible! Thanks in advance :)

This thread has certainly showed those who have the inflated opinions of themselves, elitist and the like. Don't hurt yourselves when you fall from your high horses. Not unlike grouchy when she put words and allegations into my mouth over her favorite (or was it her family's?) store and making claims about working conditions (that of course was never said, implied or alluded to), here too shows the number who live each day to find a problem with one word. A few letters of the alphabet. The root cause of political correctness, perhaps? Not unlike the hullabaloo trying to ban Huckleberry Finn. Bookburners of the world are uniting on that one it seems. It's silliness. And yes, stupid. When will people learn that some letters put together are not (or at least should not be) offensive to reasonably rational people. The "n" word is offensive if a non-black says it but it's not when a black says it. So guess words and letters aren't the cause of it are they? I could go on, but it'll only give the elitists more fodder to find a word or a few letters they don't like and get their feathers ruffled. And that might be stupid, wouldn't it? Like the song says, it's only words. Many of these comments were about as ridiculous as the hoopla over the word "garbage" not long ago. Obviously certain people get hysterical over certain words. There are certain words and phrases that I don't like but I usually try to not become a nutcase over it when someone says it! I'm not surprised that the "feelgooders" took offense to a simple comment. To them, we should only feel sorry for people who repeatedly bypass red flags. We have to feel sorry for the people who move road blockades and drive into flooded roads. We have to feel sorry for people who won't learn when they get scammed over and over again. Now you will see this twisted again into comments about the demented, the elderly and otherwise.

You're only half right there sushipup1. SSI is Supplemental Security Income, yes, but it is NOT disability. RSDI (Retirement Survivors And Disability Insurance) is the "disability" program. It's sometimes referred to as SSD or SSDI. SSI is an income supplement program funded by general tax revenues (not Social Security taxes) designed to help aged, blind, and disabled people, who have little or no income. It provides cash to meet basic needs for food, clothing, and shelter. People on "disability" are able to also apply for SSI if they meet the requirements but it's very different from the disability coverage. There's so many scumballs out there. I think phones should have a button on them whereby you can push it to activate dumping a pail of water on them and then give a 50,000 volt zap to telemarketers and scammers. Voltage would increase every time they call someone. That would cut down on the lowlife calls from these "poor people who are just trying to make a living and feed their starving children..." to whom we should talk so nice and considerate!

what was scary the other day was a very ligit looking email from aol.com...wanted all sorts of information...
went to aol directly and wa-la...my account was just fine thank you...

Hi Velleen. Thanks for sharing that. It may have stopped someone here who got the same thing from falling for it. Before the internet you might hear of an occasional dishonest person by reading the newspaper, or watching the news. It turns out that there are far more of them than you can imagine. They seem to be everywhere.

I got the e-mail from AOL, also. Stated there was a problem with my billing info and my account would be suspended. In fact, I got the same e-mail TWICE. I just deleted it, didn't even check to see what "info" they needed! I hate scams!! Bettye

In the last few days I have won/been chosen to receive/a UK National lottery, a BMW,$11.6 million, and $375,500.Two were from ladies who are on their death bed and I must hurry and reply before she dies. One said she had prayed about who should get this money and I was the one!

Would that it were so!

I find these scams are getting so "original" in their stories. One thing I have noticed is a great clue as to their being legit. Each of those claimed I was the only person who could receive the $$ or the car, but they were sent to "Undisclosed recipients." How many of me are there?

Just never reply, and delete.

Occasionally you might receive a letter which is legitimate as far as locating abandoned assets or the like. However the tipoff here is that it says you can use it for bills, travel or whatever. The government would never make that statement.

Years back a friend found my brother's and my names on an abandoned property website. My brother had put me on his safe deposit box and he let forgot about it. I got the forms to claim it and he had to fill them out but he didn't think he had anything of value so he refused to bother with it. No big deal to me. It would be his loss.

You have to use common sense when dealing with these things.

One scam that hasn't been used for a long time is the offshore phone number charges. But I suppose it won't be long before it comes back.

One way to see if something is legit concerning snail mail is the postage. If it's first class, check it out. If it's presorted standard, it's junk.

People must really fall for these scams or they wouldn't continue. It is a shame and should probably be reported to Better Business Bureau or some such agency. Such a shame someone falls for it.
