My best advice for the other big ads is to get adblock plus for your browser. What browser do you use Firefox or ie?

We use Firefox and always have. Husband thinks that's what's infected since we don't get big ads on IE, just ads down the side. We always liked Firefox. We'll try adblock plus. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it.

once you have it installed on firefox you will have to close firefox and re open it then you want to add the easy list subscription to adblock plus.
Add EasyList to Adblock Plus
you just add the easy list to adblock plus.

That should take care of most of the bothersome ads.

You should run an updated malwarebytes scan also to make sure nothing else is causing problems.

I'll let you know tomorrow since he went to bed. He said he installed adblock plus, but then he watched a movie. Thankfully, we got rid of the media player pop up which occurred constantly for days. The words here are still highlighted, and I noticed it on MSNBC too. He said he tried to get rid of it here on GW but couldn't, but it's on other sites. BetterSurf and PlusHD.3.

you are very welcome be sure he also added that easylist to the adblock plus it really catches most of the ads. With the easy list on it should remove those green ones too.

also there are some extensions that can sneak on that allow those green line ads, one is Play Brite another is game play labs, go up top to Tools then add ons and in the list there and in the plug ins look for that and delete it if you have it also look for any other ones that you did not add.

Another option to add to your firefox is a helper for your adblock plus go ahead and add this one also, remember to restart firefox after you do that.

Another way to get the easylist subscription in case you had trouble with my first link is to click on tools up top then on the adblock plus in the list then filter preferences and select the easylist from the list. At the bottom of that box it has a check mark on allow some non intrusive ads be sure you uncheck that.

Since this has happened a couple of times I suggest adding this wonderful little program to your computer it is called spywareblaster, many people use it, I have it on all of mine. It is super easy you just install it, nothing to set up, just once a week or so open it, click check for updates, update then click on enable updates so that the shield turns green thats it. It sits in the back ground and protects you from bad sites.

Okay, update. Husband successfully installed the two links you posted. He can't find play brite. He just called our geek at Staples about these green line ads, and he said there is no way to get rid of them since this is GW's way of advertising. I clicked on one , dog, and it went to a gazillion ways to train your dog. I can live with these since I got rid of the full page ads from BET and others that always popped up at every turn. It's just these green lines were not here two days ago. I don't know if anyone else has them. I haven't read of any complaints.

That's very unusual because the easylist subscription has always removed those, it does on mine.
You can go opt out of those ads by following the opt out link at the bottom of each GW post page, they can return if cookies are deleted since it is controlled by adding a cookie.

Hi Raven, This is LILY's husband. I tried your suggestions but still can't disable the in line text ads. On the vibrant opt out page, nothing happens when I click on the disable tab. This just started two days ago, but I see Garden Web have embedded these ads since 2010. I tried to search the add ons for Play Bright but our computer won't display the list. It just keeps loading.I think we should use a different browser. Google Chrome?

I don't use Chrome so can't comment on it.
Is your version of Firefox the latest?
You can always try going to remove programs and remove Firefox then go reinstall Firefox in case you have a corruption in the one you have.
I would go download the latest version of Firefox, and save to your desktop, then remove the old version and use the new download to reinstall. You will need to go back and add the Adblock plus with easylist and the other extensions you had but every thing else will remain including the bookmarks.
