Baby it's cold and windy outside~

And I had to run out and get something to munch on.

Fresh Market for sweet Italian sausage again, and ran back home to cook it along with some orange wedges.

I left work early today. We had plenty of help so I took four hours of AL and came home. I'm getting ready to make pork curry and rice. I never made it the other day when I had originally planned to. Good day for it because the temp is supposed to get down to 18 tonight. It's snowing and sleeting out there. I woke up to about 5 inches of snow this morning. Not fun driving when other people are crazy!

We were suppose to go to a Black Tie party tonight but I woke up this morning with a headache and feel a cold starting to come on so we cancelled. Truth be known, we were ambivalent about it anyway. It's a lovely party that friends of ours have every year, but they live an hour away and it's so difficult to find there house way back in the woods and many little twists and turns. Last time we were there it was summer and we went in the day. Still got lost trying to get back to the main drag on the way home. DH wasn't crazy about the black tie although that was optional and I had my bargain silver jacket to wear but it will wait for another time. DH decided we should have our own party. He made shrimp cocktails but that's the extent of his planning so I made some ham roll-ups and there's a bit of a cheese ball in the fridge. I think that's it for tonight. I'm not that hungry anyway. Just popping vitamin C hoping to ward off the cold.

Turkey Club sandwiches. Been looking forward to them. We'll eat while watching the VOLS basketball game, starts at 6 which is unusual.

Beef Enchiladas and Refried Beans with Avacado.

We debated where to go out to but we really didn't want to get out in the cold so I just ordered a pizza and wings.

It is getting cold here, too, Glenda. Supposed to last a few days but be warm again by New Year's Day. Do you cook the sausage and orange together or separate? Sounds pretty good to me!

Kathleen, I thought you'd be getting some of that icky stuff. Sure hope you don't work tomorrow. Your curry sounds delicious. I love curry with rice.

Georgysmom, We had friends that lived in Sky Valley, GA. I can relate to how hard some places are to find. To get to Sky Valley you have to go to North Carolina and then back into Georgia. They lived on the top of a mountain at a ski/golf resort (now just a golf resort). It was beautiful but "climbing" that mountain and finding their house was terrible.

Dr. Patti knows what you need to ward off that cold--or just make you feel good!

Hot Toddy

1 oz (2 tablespoons) bourbon
1 tablespoon mild honey
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup boiling-hot water

Stir it all together and sip while it's still hot. It works wonders (plus you sleep really well).

Walnutcreek, I never thought of having avacado with enchiladas. I was just trying to think of something to make with avacados today--they're on sale this week at the grocery. I just love them. They're really good on a cheeseburger, too.

I've eaten three avocadoes this week! I love it when they're less than a dollar!

We're having broiled venison tenderloin, steamed brocolli with canned Ragu cheese sauce (lazy Carol), and baked potatoes with sour cream, chives, butter.

I made a new recipe today....Ham and Lentil Soup. It's a little bland but warm and filling. I saw an ad for Fleischmann's Simply Homemade bread mix, so had picked one up. I made it today. Nothing to write home about, but not too bad. Will only buy it again if it's on sale. I used a slice to put my turkey burger patty on, along with a thick slice of onion.

It's still chilly here tonight and we had leftover soup for lunch, so I am cooking tonight. Gourmet chicken sausage, potatoes, green beans and a salad. I am thinking about making some nice, hot bread also. Stay warm, everyone!

Raven, sounds like a plan to me! Stay warm and dry and enjoy your pizza and wings. Look at it this way--we don't have to shovel!

Carol, what a great meal! I've never had the Ragu cheese sauce, but I love that sauce over broccoli. I will look for it.

Shirley, I just can't get myself to like lentils. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I've tried them in restaurants, too. I've seen those Fleischmann's bread mixes and thought they sounded pretty good (anything that sounds yeasty sounds good to me). Now I need a big ole hamburger with onion. That sounds really good.

I'm having my chicken and dumplings again.....still tasting good!

Went to Taco Bell and got fast food. I don't have time for cooking in the middle of holidays. Delivered my last gifts today to my husband's brother and wife. Tomorrow I think I'll take down some of the decorations. One of my cats has been tearing at the garland-he thinks it's a cat toy!

Just got back from driving DGD back home in the Orange County~~it rained the whole way, heavy at times. Luckily DGD fell asleep as soon as we got on the fwy~~~she is a chatter box;) Then I zipped over to my mom's to take her some supplies~~~~rained off and on on the way home. So I am pooped out~~DH is going to have leftovers again~~me I will have some organic veggie soup I bought last shopping day, and grilled cheese made with smoked gouda;) YUMM

We had Chinese takeout. Moo goo gai pan for me; Robert had shrimp and mixed veggies. Always tastes good for a once-in-a-while treat.

Phyllis, chicken and dumpling are the ideal winter food--especially when the weather is as cold as MN. Hope you have more for another day!!

Jannie, know what you mean about the holidays but ours are over. New Year's to us means college bowl games :0 I just dread decorating every year, but just hat taking it down. My tree is so pretty I just love looking at it.

Gosh, YogaLady, sure glad your DGD slept. Driving in rain is not fun, but I can't imagine driving on those freeways in CA. I shudder to think. Glad you got home safely. I bought a round of smoked gouda and Harry at almost all of it. Humph!

Rhizo, I wish we had a better Chinese restaurant close. The one we order from has great soups, but everything else tastes about the same. Enjoy your dinner and stay warm!!!

I treated myself to a steak and twice baked potato. Was supposed to go out today with a friend but it snowed so I have just stayed home in my pjs all day. Tomorrow I am meeting my daughters and their families for church and they are treating me to lunch for my birthday (which was actually today but Im trying to ignore them from now on) Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. Yogalady, you brought back fond memories and a smile to my face tonight. DD #2 was such a chatter box when she was a little girl. Drove you crazy in the car, but she was so easy going, you couldn't get mad at her. LOL

Pot roast with root vegetables. Sipped on vodka, Bauchant and fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice while it cooked. I am in flavor heaven!

Hounds, I make a cocktail called a "Cue Ball". Equal parts vodka, grapefruit juice and soda (Seven Up). Goes down smooth.Soup sounds good, maybe I'll make some for Sunday supper. My family was in the habit of having breakfast and a meal around one or two on Sunday, maybe a sandwich later on. I don't need three squares a day.
