This year, haven't made it in 4 or 5 years, I'll be gifting a few with

Champagne Jelly

3 cups sugar

2 cups pink champagne

1 3 oz pkg liquid pectin

Combine sugar and champagne in a large Dutch oven. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves (do not boil) Remove from heat, stir in liquid pectin. Skim off foam with a metal spoon.

Quickly pour hot jelly into hot sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch of headspace. Cover at once. Let stand 8 hours for jelly to set up. Makes 5 half pints

I don't process mine, cause the jelly is usually gone before the holidays are over.

GREAT ON HOT BISCUITS!

I give cookie platters to 3 of my neighbors. This year's cookies are snickerdoodles, Mexican wedding cookies, cherry chocolate chip and peanut butter. All the dough is made and in the freezer for another week. Nobody cooks around here, much less bakes, so they really love it.

I made Pumpkin bread today, One large loaf and two mini loafs. The large one will go to our car guy, one of the small ones will go to a young man in the building. He is handicapped but brings our morning paper up every morning an dputs it by our door. He will also get a monetary gift, plus a couple kitty treats for his cat. Thursday I'm going to make Almond bark to give to some neighbors we are close to.

Hi! Generally I make lots of cookies and some canned goods for Christmas. I am in the very beginning stage of candy making (I bought a candy thermometer recently, but haven't freed it from its packaging yet.) Anyway, here's a candy recipe thats very easy. No thermometer necessary and people will think you fussed. The recipe is from Hershey's. Cashew Macadamia Crunch Ingredients: * 2 cups (11.5-oz. pkg.) HERSHEY'S Milk Chocolate Chips * 3/4 cup coarsely chopped salted or unsalted cashews * 3/4 cup coarsely chopped salted or unsalted macadamia nuts * 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened * 1/2 cup sugar * 2 tablespoons light corn syrup Directions: 1. Line 9-inch square pan with foil, extending foil over edges of pan; butter foil. Cover bottom of prepared pan with chocolate chips. 2. Combine cashews, macadamia nuts, butter, sugar and corn syrup in large heavy skillet; cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until butter is melted and sugar is dissolved. Increase heat to medium; cook, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to cling together and turns golden brown. 3. Pour mixture over chocolate chips in pan, spreading evenly. Cool. refrigerate until chocolate is firm. Remove from pan; peel off foil. Break into pieces. Store tightly covered in cool, dry place. About 1-1/2 pounds candy.

Kate, Thanks for starting this. Your table runners are great. So many wonderful projects. Marcia, I really like your attic windows and they inspire me to do something similar with some panels I didn't know what to do with. Msmeow, I have those exact place mats I made, according to the date, in 1991. Don't even remember where the pattern came from; probably a magazine. I also did them on red and have used them every christmas since I made them. I have been contemplating how to clean them before I put them away this year. I usually just spot clean them but feel it is time to really clean them. Ha. I love them. Hope you enjoy them as much as I have. TFS everyone. Love to see what everyone is doing. Sally

Justgottabe, the ornaments are wonderful. They would be simply beautiful on their own, but the meaning behind them makes them extraordinary. Priceless treasures. I don't have a lot of the ornaments my mom, grandmother and to some degree my sister and I made when I was young, and the beaded felt tree skirts haven't held up as well, but I treasure what we do have. I am still knitting -- might still be knitting after Christmas, but as long as I have these hats done beofre the boys go back to school, I will be satisfied and I know the boys will be fine with that. They got the matching scarves last year and know these are coming (I can't bring myself to pull out wool and start knitting when it's over 85 degrees outside -- and that wasn't that long ago). I did make a pair of baby alpaca cowls and make do some mitts to go with one. Started a crocheted hat too. We have all the kitchen goodies packed up and will mail 3 packages this weekend or Monday and then distribute the rest next week. Made 16 tins of peanut brittle on top of the ther goodies and will make stroopwaffels Sunday or Monday (have to wait for a front to pass through and the weather to improve for the caramel to behave). Jen -- ETA that I think your scarves look great and they will love them. The yarn for the guy is a great choice. I know what a hard time I had finding something I liked for my sons.

I no longer bake gifts except for the family. I like to send the "kids" home with goodies. Need to bake some more pumpkin tea bread for the Christmas table and to give the kids as it makes two loaves. DH is letting some of "his" bananas brown for banana bread for our two grandsons, who recently discovered they like it, even the 14 month old.

I think I will make some pumpkin (Kabocha squash puree) oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and some lemon brownies.....and maybe some applesauce spice bread.
Or I may just not bake this year.
And, if I decide to bake I will make some homemade artisan bread, too.
Your champagne jelly sounds good!

Last year I made LOTS of candy. This year I am making PW cinnamon rolls. ( I already made them once for friends) There are a dozen of us who in our neighborhood and we always do a goodie swap.

Oh my, Kathy, are those rolls as good as they sound, and look?? I might just have to add those to my list, as well as the champagne jelly! One question about the recipe. It calls for a bag of powdered sugar for the frosting. Around here a bag comes in at least two sizes. Do you know the size of bag to use? I'm assuming a 1 lb. bag?

I do the same thing I've done for the past 25 years or more. I buy 3 cases of jelly jars at the grocery store and I make 2 kinds of my homemade salad dressings-everyone gets 1 of each...of my Zesty French dressing and my PA Dutch sweet 'n sour Bacon dressing. I like this because I can make up a couple gallons of each-a week ahead and portion it out the days I need to give the gift.

I made these today for Christmas gifts, wouldn't call them goodies though! I made two five gallon buckets of laundry soap to give to one daughter and a granddaughter. I will tell them when they are empty to bring them back and I will make another batch for them.

I'm making a few bottles of Vanilla Extract! It won't be "ready" to use by Christmas, but will be in a couple of months.

As much as I love to bake, for various reasons, no one in my family wants gifts of homemade goodies. So this year I made hanging suet/nut/dried fruit feeders in various holiday shapes for those who feed the birds.

This year I made cookies:
1. Package Duncan Hines brownies (with walnuts)
2. Cherry wafers
3. Russian Tea cakes
4. Spritz cookies
5. Pillsbury Sugar cookies
Made 5 gift boxes, assorted. Two for SILS, one for BIL and wife, one for my Mom and one for hospital staff where I get dialysis. Recipes not included, two are store bought, easy, the rest you can Google. I used to make rum balls, this year I don't have time.

Tobygirl...you can send them to me. I would want them. :) I don't do any goodie gifts. But I need to think about it. I need to do something for the neighbors!

Shea..the rolls are better than they look! The first batch made 7 pans, and I passed them out to friends for brunch.
I will make a double batch for the neighborhood exchanges. The frosting I just used a bag of the confection sugar, I think it was 1 pound. This time I am also cutting back on the maple flavoring, it was pretty strong.

I made a homemade Irish Cream. The recipe made a gallon! I made it last week and it is supposed to made 3-4 weeks ahead of time. I dipped into to it tonight to try in a cup of coffee and oh my, is it ever good. I will split it in 3rds, and give two as gifts and one for me.
