oh my gosh what type of sewing machine is that in the background (by the way your tree looks nice). i collect antique sewing machines, i have 5 right , but im starting to run out of room. merry xmas

dally099, that is my great grandmother's White Treadle sewing machine. I learned to sew on my mom's Kenmore electric, but did a lot of my sewing on the treadle, including the dress I wore to my high school graduation. It still works to my knowlege, but the local man who does repairs can no longer get parts for it, so I am afraid to use it!

I also have my great aunt's electric singer with the head that looks like my treadle. DH won't let me use it until he puts a new cord on it.

just a little update. brought mine out of the greenhouse and into some filtered shade. They overwintered pretty good. A little yellowing on a couple and just a touch of leaf drop. Not a big fruit set but thats ok because I plan to push these with more N this year to really get bigger. Fukushu, key and washington left to right meyer, bearrs lime, armstrong satsuma, seedling grapefruit and seedling lemon, left to right up close of fukushu kumquat, probably my favorite right now. Prolific bloomer, great fruit set, and always healthy. Its regulary flowers every other month or so. Steve these are for you the lemon seedling on the right is one of 2 of the very first citrus I grew. the other I gave to my mother. Both were germinated in the Fall of 2009 making them just over 6 years old. Ive neglected them a little and thats why they arent so big. One did flower last spring but just one or 2 flowers. Lol I like everything, but given it's a Victorian homes tour I will stick to being somewhat traditional, lots of sparkle and glass. I love that blog. I have quite a bit of silver including some huge trays so I a, going to pull those out and copy her a little :). I love the plates, but they appear to be resting on the branches which tells me that she does not have a five year old red headed devil running around her trees :). I do have 40 plus china tea cups though.....that would be a fun theme on the dining room tree. With lots of white lights and silver...crystals....ok now you have me thinking lol Thanks!

Lara - I made the giant peppermints last year. They were very fun & easy to make. Here's how: I purchased several round/flat styrofoam disks and printed off the attached template and I might have enlarged it (can't remember). Place template over the styrofoam and trace pattern onto the styrofoam with an ink pen - making sure to press through so the marks are on the styrofoam. I used red fabric paint in a bottle and followed the lines and filled in with the red making sure to alternate the red with the white from the styrofoam to give it the peppermint effect. I also came down the sides with the paint. Optional - you can sprinkle glitter in the wet paint. Depending on how you are going to use them, you might also want to paint the backside as well. You have to play around with the placement of the template so that the two sides match up. Once the paint is dry, cut clear cellophane and leave enough on the ends to "tie" like candy. Some of mine, I made to look like lollipops by sticking a wooden dowel in one end. For the red stripe on the dowel, I used red shiny curling ribbon and glued it to the dowel. LOL, Toni! If I posted my senior picture, you would really think DD & I look alike! I am sure your third graders love Nacho. Sydney is in DH's lap right now. They are watching W. C. Fields. The hawk showed up a few days after Christmas, it might have been New Years Eve. I made cabbage rolls & made DH help, since it was his idea. I wasn't in the mood to fool with them, but when I bought cabbage for me for New Years, since I hate saurkraut, he thought I should buy two heads and use the biggest leaves for cabbage rolls. I told him if I had to make them he had to help. It was while we were making them, that the hawk showed up. I have another pic of it flying away. He might have had lunch in his talons, but we aren't sure. We have a pine tree and a mongo pine bush out front that has turned into bird condos, so he might have had a caught a meal. Tami

Patti! Can you get me a name and address? Please? I don't sew much any more, and have a Husqvarna Viking 500, But I sure did enjoy the treadle once in a while.

Damien absolutely loves all animals, tho he's a little leary of dogs, mostly because he doesn't get to be around them much. He has recently started asking to hold Annie. She is very busy, so we have to be right there, and he can't get her out by himself, anyway.

Summer, my DH inherited the clocks from his dad. They need a good cleaning and things checked over good, so we no longer wind them, but I always loved hearing them chime the hour, ect.

Cute pics! My mom "collects" sewing machines, too. She calls them "end tables" so it doesn't sound like she has too many. *rolling eyes* Who wants to admit having five sewing machines? It's not so bad to say you have end tables. LOL!

Hi, Tami! You look ready for Christmas! Love the train under the tree!

I can't believe how big Damien is now! Wow, time is flying by. I hope the whole family is doing as well as he is! lol The buns are adorable.

I have "end tables", too, at least 3 of them with hidden machines, and 4 more machines that are exposed. I seem to collect them without really trying. Mostly I like the size of the tables and all the drawers involved.

My Grandma had an old Singer treadle machine with all sorts of attachments for hemming,buttonholes, you name it. She sewed all my clothes when I was little, till she died at age 77 in 1961. Mom had an electric Singer but I learned to sew on an electric White in Junior High. I liked sewing but gave it up when I got to college. No one there wore home-made clothes. Peer pressure made me give it up. Mt Grandma's old Singer is still in my Mom's basement, probably no longer works.

Jannie, I'll bet that Singer still works! I know mine will. And Patti emailed me the info for the place near her with parts! So if it needs fixed we know where to get the parts.

Mingo, yes, everyone else is doing just as good as Damien, but probably a whole lot slower!
