I miss my Mom

Silly, I know. Maybe it's the holidays. Maybe it's because she left us Christmas morning. Maybe it's that I had one of those incredibly intense dreams about her last night, where we sat and talked and giggled and it was like she'd never been away.

I woke up feeling like I'd lost her all over again.

Throughout my life, I didn't have aunts, uncles, grandparents or even a father to speak of. They lived many miles away and we had virtually no contact, other than cards at Christmas.

I had Mom. And she was enough.

Please, tell me I'm not a total wuss.

Rosemaryt...maybe she came to you in your dream. I think sometimes our loved ones who have gone before us, come to us in different ways and being the dream was so real, her spirit was communicating with you. She looks like a very lovely woman (your girls are cuties too) I hope you can find comfort in your memories of her. ((((Hugs)))) Dottie

You're not a total wuss. Of course you miss your Mom! That's ok, although tough on you today. It sounds like you were lucky enough to have a very special lady in your life.

Patricia, My Mother died the same exact way as yours. She had been suffering with a stiff neck for a couple of weeks. On Monday (June 4, 2007) she went to the hospital to get it checked. On Wednesday (6th) we found out she had liver cancer. It had spread to her adrenial glands, lungs and into her neck. On Sunday (10th) she was gone. She too went peacefully in her sleep. I know what you went through, she went really fast. Although this is all still new to me, I too feel your pain. Grieving is not easy for me right now. I smelt saukraut (sp?) the other day and thought it was kind of funny as I was driving down the road. I close my eyes and see her smiling face but yet I can not cry. Her services are this coming week end (17th/18th) and she is being buried on my son's (her grandson's) birthday. He is taking it so hard, but there is nothing I can do. I have talked till I was blue in the face and can not gt my brother to budge. I just hope I have the strength to go through this. With God's help we wil get through this. I believe that your mom knows how much you love her and how sorry you are. Talk to her now and tell her all you want to tell her. You could even write her a letter with all you want her to know and attach it to helium balloon and let it go. This is a symbolic gesture and many times it is quite healing. You've got to forgive yourself. You know how much your mom loved you and she would not want her daughter to suffer as you are suffering. If you have children, imagine the tables being turned and how you wouldn't want your child to suffer that agony after you are gone. I believe that you will see your mom again. She will be waiting for you with open arms, and you will be together much longer than you have been together here on earth. Try to live the life that she gave you to the fullest and make it a happy life. This will make your mom happy. Please keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. Lu

Dear Mary Helen, Thank you for sharing your feelings. It just goes to show that when we are in the presence of our parents, we are all still children. I have that feeling sometimes too. I want so badly to go to my parents house. but no one is there. my parents were deeply in debt and the house was falling apart. My brother and sister did not want it and I can not aford it. So it sits empty waiting for the bank to foreclose. I have gone there and found all the doors open, its been broken into. I went inside and I don't know what I hoped to find. What ever I was looking for was not there. I sat on the floor in thier bedroom crying out loud like a small child. That is until I heard a voice asking, 'what you want? what you want.... my phone was in my pocket and had dialed the local chinese restraunt! lol Well, that made me laugh as hysterically as I had cried. I hoped that if there way any way for Momma and Daddy to know about that, that they had and had laughed with me! Both of them had such a good sence of humor. I came to understand that I wanted was to feel loved, to feel nurtured, to be mothered. Since I could not have that, I decided to give it. The next time I had that longing to go to their house I cut flowers from my yard and took them to an elderly woman close by who had recently lost her husband. The joy those flowers brought to that woman lifted my grief... I felt that my Momma was shinning love right down on me at that moment! I go out to our cemetary sometimes just to sit and visit. All the people burried there are relitives of mine. I sometimes try to picture the resurection and how happy that little patch of ground will be with all my generations reunited! My Mom was the greatest person, mother, wife in earth. She was the most spiritual, humble, compassionate, beautiful person I¡¦ve ever known. She was my rock, my faith, my comfort and my guidance, I feel as if I am lost in limbo without her. She had such a story, she was the oldest girl of 13 Children, and she raised her brothers and sisters while her parents ran the bar they owned across from Leavenworth Prison. When she wasn¡¦t doing that she was working in the bar. It made her who she was; she never drank, smoked or swore. She gave my Dad 40 years of her life. She lost her first born child when she was only 23. My brother Todd died of cancer when he was only 2, but yet she had the strength and courage to have 2 more children. I had told her so many times that I did not know how she could overcome that. With him being my only child at the time, I think I would have had to lie down and die beside him. She went head to head with a few Demons¡Kreal ones¡Kand a couple of my boyfriends, and let me tell you she was not afraid to tell them where to go. º My heart has been broken ever since January 5, 2005 when she was diagnosed she was given 6 months to 1 year, but she fought like hell for 1 year AND 6 six months. I am so grateful for all of the extra time that we were given. When she was told of this horrible news, she refused it, would not accept it. As did my Dad, my Sister and I. How could someone so full of life, someone whose eyes sparkled so bright be given this terrible burden? It wasn¡¦t fair, but even then she was teaching us something. She was so brave and never once did she let her faith fall. I spent every moment I could with her, every lunch hour, anytime Dad needed a break, to cook, didn¡¦t matter what I was there! I just wanted to soak her all in, time was running out. Mom grew weaker, the pain intensified, and she had so much confusion from all the meds and so came the need for her to have someone by her side 24/7. I basically moved back ¡§home¡¨ for the last month to help Dad. My sister was called and was also told to come ¡§home¡¨, time was running short. It was not until this time that she actually gave up, ¡§I want you to know that I can¡¦t fight this anymore, I am tired and I have decided to give up. I want you to know that you girls are the light of my life and I love you¡¨. And I told her that we understood, we would be ok and there was a little boy waiting for her and now it is his turn, we had kept her long enough. I thanked her for showing me the kind of person I wanted to grow to be and let her know how much I loved her And a few days later she was gone, I was there with her and holding her hand at that very moment. She was only 59¡Kand I am 29¡KI still need my mom. She once was the greatest person, Wife and Mother on earth and now she is the most beautiful of all the Angels in heaven. My Sister will be here for the Thanksgiving holiday and we have decided that it is time to start going through her things. Deciding how we are going to divide her art, and all her possessions that meant so much to her. What to do with her clothes, her shoes, her books. Call me crazy but I always hope that something from her will show up somewhere, she was the type to tuck little notes away that you would end up finding. I look for her all the time in my dreams; I could sit in pure silence for hours waiting to her voice. I miss her so much; I thought this was to get easier as time passes? Just when I feel that I am up on my feet, they get knocked out from underneath me. How do I deal? What about this hole I feel in my chest? I too hate the cemetery, to see her and my brothers granite stones laying side by side just rips me apart, I never go and I do feel guilty about that, but I don¡¦t feel that is where is ¡§she¡¨ is. I miss mine too and she left us in 1984. Whenever I find a note or letter with her handwriting it is like she is in the same room with me. I know she is just in another room. Her love is always with me and she took my love with her too so we are still together and that is the same for you and your Mom. Mother love never dies or leaves but is always there for us to draw on. Hugs

I understand completely. I lost my Mom in 1980 and I still miss her. For the first year things would happen, or I would hear or see something, and my first thought would be, I am going to call Mom and tell her.
I was lucky to have my Dad and lot of Aunt and Uncles, but my Mom was extra special. It does get easier as time goes by.

No wuss at all. Sometimes I miss my Dad so much and it just washes over me for no reason. It's always worse at Christmas time. I can remember me telling my Dad he looked nice a lot of times after he'd gotten all dressed up to go somewhere with Mom. He'd do this little dance and smile, and cock his eyebrow in a devilish way. Just typing this makes me remember/see him and I'm tearing up.

It's natural for you to miss your Mom, especially now around the holidays. The intense vivid dreams are said to be spirit visits - if it seemed very real, it may have been real!

Your Mom was a lovely lady.

If we never miss somebody ~ then that person didn't hold a very special place in our lives.....go ahead....miss them, then be happy that they were a part of our lives.

When I have dreams about my nan (who raised me) I always wake up with a smile on my face, and my dreams are always like a visit from her.

I will always miss my mom, and she died when I was 12, over 50 years ago. I was lucky to have had a really wonderful mom. Some aren't so lucky.

I think of her especially at those times you wish you had your mom with you to celebrate phases of life. She never met my husband, saw me as a young woman, or met our children, who would have loved having a grandparent, but they had none. My sisters and I have had an excellent role model, and though we are no where near how perfect she was, we strove to be better wives, mothers, and individuals because of her example.

Linda is right. We miss some people because they were so special to us.

Aw, Rosemary, it just never stops hurting, does it? I was looking through mom's recipe file the other day and like Minnie said just seeing her handwriting gave me an "Oh, Mom!" moment.

It would be terribly sad if you didn't miss her! I still miss mine, 30 years after her death. I'd thought the dying was the hard part; she had leukemia and was in and out of hospital for a year. Then she was *gone* and, as maryanntx says, it was sooo hard not to be able to pick up the phone and share something special with her.

My mother was sole support of her mother and father during the Depression. After my father left us, she was sole support for me and her mother. Yet she was as far from playing 'martyr' as you could get. Everyone loved her. She was a successful Realtor back when that was 'a man's job'. She was a great Mother and Grandma -- just not long enough; our DS had lost both his grandmothers by age eight.

Mine has been gone since 1974 and I still dream of her often and still do the same thing about thinking I must call hr and tell her something. I just wish I had let her know more times just how much I loved her.

I lost my mom on Christmas Eve in 1992. I still miss her, always will. I would love for her to be in my dreams, even if it meant I would wake and have to face the fact that I lost her again. It is especially hard this time of year, Christmas eve was her favorite day, for a few years following her death I hated Christmas Eve, but now I celebrate a little heavier just for her!

I lost my mother this past May and I know this Christmas is going to be a very hard one on all of us. I have 8 brothers and sisters and I still have my Dad, but it wont be the same without her. I lost a sister to pancreatic cancer just before she would have turned 41. Then my mom lost her sister to the same thing. My mom had chronic back and leg pain for year. About 3 weeks before she passed away she turned yellow and we found out she had it too. they tried to do a surgery on her and it didnt work. Then she went in the nursing home and 9 days later she passed away. We were all happy that she didnt have to suffer anymore.

Nice picture of your Mom.

Every time I put up my mantle decorations I shed a few tears because that was my Mom's pride and joy at Christmas. Holidays bring out those feelings in us.

My heart goes out to you right now with heavy tears as I type this.I know exactly how you are feeling.It has been 12yrs for my mom being gone and it still just seems like yesterday.I think this year is a little harder since my DGD was born.She looks so much like her mommy who looks so much like my mom.If you looked at dd and my mom you would have sworn they were mother and daughter.I look more like my dad than my mom.But through it all I know she is looking down on us with the biggest smile ever.I miss her so much.
