I'm Having A Hard Time.....

The last few days I've been really sad. Not crying necessarily, but it feels like my heart's gonna explode from all of the feelings I have going through me. I miss my mom SO much. I just want her back here, even for just a little bit so I could tell her how much I loved her and how sorry I am for being stubborn and not talking to her for the last 2 years. Before our fallout she was such a great mother to me and I'll forever miss her with all of my heart and soul. Even during our separation these last 2 years, she'd try to call me and I wouldn't give in. On my last birthday she called my work and asked them to tell me Happy Birthday from her and that she loved me. Why the hell didn't I just give in then and call her? Now I'll never get to say the things to her that I need to say. I'm feeling hopeless and VERY sad!

Oh Jennifer, you are having a tough time! Reread the previous thread you started as there are some good thoughts there, especially Chinacat's suggestions for things you can do in your mother's memory. She gives some really good ideas to keep yourself busy and do something positive.

I'm so sorry for your emotional suffering. Take care.

Jennifer, I think you still can tell her how much you love her and that you're sorry. Or write her a letter. From my own experiences, I believe she can hear you. Your mother knows you love her. My mom died seven years ago when I was 19, so I know what you are going through. It is hard but you have to stop beating yourself up. I agree with the others to do something positive to honor her memory.

Bri, if I am understanding you correctly, I wouldn't worry about the bit of slant you are getting with the cluster stitches. They do sort of lean to the left. It might help if the loop you pull through the last bunch of loops to make the cluster come together is a little loose - make it a teensy bit larger than you usually do. When you come back on the next row it will be easier to make your stitch into it. If this is not what your problem is, can you be more specific?

Cubes where the room is not wider or longer in at least one direction than the ceiling is high are not particularly comfortable, similar to how large rooms with low ceilings are not particularly comfortable. In a cube, the room tends to start feeling shaft like, where a large room with a low ceiling often seems to sag or press down in the center. Also, cubes are static and rectangles are not. It might be better if the ceiling was 15-16 if 24 is the largest dimension of the room. Peaks are a little different. I lived in an apartment where the original parlor floors were essentially a golden rectangle. They had been lofted at one end (about 1/3 of the space) and it made the high ceiling in the remaining area kind of elevator shaft-like. The apartments that maintained the original proportions were more comfortable spaces. Of the above pictures Mutiny and Rufty seem fine because of the length of the room and the ability to experience the height from the opposite end of the room in some sort of perspective. I actually find the Shades Creek kitchen proportions unpleasant. It makes a good picture but I don't think I would like working in that kitchen. I am curious as to how many people with 8-9 foot ceilings vacuum or clean them on a regular basis. I am not sure the extra height makes rooms extra dirty? That said I had to clean my 14 foot LR with elaborate plaster cornices with an extention pole with brushes on it...I purposely did not have any lighting in that ceiling. I think the people who bought the apartment from my buyer put in recessed cans. (Not right in a 1830s house and very hard to change. A ten foot ladder is much harder to manage than an 8 foot ladder).

I'll answer your questions in a moment. First I have to warn you that those 30 amp plug fuses "protecting" what appears to be AWG 14 wire are a VERY serious hazard. You're risking fire. I'm also worried about those extra wires connected to the RANGE fuses' terminals. They look like they might be AWG 10, which is good for 30 amps. I'll wager that the range fuses are 40 or 50 amp. Let me guess, those go to an electric water heater? Your installation is severely inadequate for modern needs. This is a DANGEROUS situation. You should have it upgraded as soon as you can possibly afford to do so. Take out a loan if necessary. This is urgent. TODAY, replace those 30 amp fuses with ones appropriate for the wiring connected to them. If in doubt, put in 15 amp fuses. If the smaller fuses blow, remove loads until they don't. Now for your questions. The aluminum wire that caused problems was AWG 12 and AWG 10 solid. Large gauge stranded wire is not a hazard as long as anti-oxidant compound was used when it was installed. What you have may not be aluminum, however. The bare neutral that looks like AL might be tinned copper. The hot wires look to me like oxidized copper. I'd have to see it in person to be sure. The slight projection of the MAIN fuseholder might be caused by dirt or debris behind it. Those holders have blades the push into slots. A little less than full engagement probably won't hurt.

If you are not changing the cabinet layout, I’m not sure why you need more tile? But, consider combining a complimentary tile with the existing tile to create a subtle “rug” type pattern in the room. A light to medium gray around the island, and as a border to the room could work. You’ll need a very good tile guy to pull that off well. Deco strips that combine multiple colors can sometimes be the key to making that work. Without a floor plan and pictures of the issue, it’s difficult to give more targeted advice. But, if you’re not working with a Kitchen Designer, I’d strongly suggest that you do so. Good luck!

Hi Jennifer,

Whatever your reasons were for being estranged from your mom, I'm sure they SEEMED reasonable at the time...whether they were or not.

You may be guilty of being stubborn, but you don't deserve to suffer forever because of it. If you had KNOWN what you know now, OF COURSE you would have made up. You've learned a tough lesson, and it's to your credit (and your mom's) that you've shared it with others. Your mom raised a daughter with a conscience. She has forgiven you. Do you think maybe she wants you to forgive yourself?

Jennifer, I hope you're not holding in your tears. If you feel as though your heart could explode, perhaps you need to cry. If I don't have a "good" cry every so often, the grief builds. I agree that you can still tell your mom anything and everything you want to. She can hear you telepathically, but scream it if you have to. Or write. Whatever method you choose, she will receive.

I believe that your mom knows how much you love her and how sorry you are. Talk to her now and tell her all you want to tell her. You could even write her a letter with all you want her to know and attach it to helium balloon and let it go. This is a symbolic gesture and many times it is quite healing. You've got to forgive yourself. You know how much your mom loved you and she would not want her daughter to suffer as you are suffering. If you have children, imagine the tables being turned and how you wouldn't want your child to suffer that agony after you are gone.
I believe that you will see your mom again. She will be waiting for you with open arms, and you will be together much longer than you have been together here on earth. Try to live the life that she gave you to the fullest and make it a happy life. This will make your mom happy.
