2013 Ornament Party- Many Photos!

Here's the whole bunch- smaller than usual turnout this year, but so much fun!

And some close ups-

The funniest story is about the JOY bunting- it was supposed to be reversible and say Peace on Earth on the back, but it read Earth on Peace so she covered that with ribbon. Dang! I would have loved it with the mistake!

First time ever we had duplicate ornaments, triplicate, actually- the little candle/snowmen heads. Each one was different, though and we had fun noticing their differences.

Nice variety of different ornies- soft, hard, primitive, shiny, large, dainty, etc. The food was fabulous, too! We had such a good time. I'm so glad I went, I tried to get out of going but my friend wouldn't let me and I'm glad she twisted my arm.

Marilyn, I don't know if it started with a movie or what, but it sure is trendy right now. Take a look at Pinterest or just Google it and you'll see lots of cute photos of scenarios that fun parents have come up with, I would have loved this when I was a kid! Thanks, ladies. Yes, it's a lot of fun and it seems like the ladies are really outdoing themselves every year. I do have an idea for next years ornie, in fact I have almost everything I need to make them. I saw on FlickR some ornaments that look like those candied fruit slices, you know the ones you see in the nice candy stores, they look like a slice of orange, or lemon, lime, etc. They make them in citrus colors and red.... well, these were felt, 2 colors in each one, like dark green/lime green or dark yellow/bright yellow, etc, and covered with "sugar", which was a square crystal glitter. Simple, but VERY CUTE. I was thinking of making a set of 3 for each lady. I bought all the stuff to make them in case my ships didn't turn out. So I'll be making those, and I won't wait until early December, either! lol bRAT Kat- those are his little mittened hands you're seeing, ya perv! lol It's not a good photo, I realize that. He is absolutely the most charming, old-fashioned little guy, we all flipped over him. The 2 girls on either side of me, their guys had glittery felt shoes- mine has plain. I told them their little guys were gay. lolol And their little scarves are so cute, a tiny button holds it in place. He is perfection. I recommend these kinds of parties to everyone. What a great way to get together, have lots of fun and good food and be creative AND get a huge assortment of ornies. Oh. I don't do a tree anymore, I'm sad to say. Too many cheesy cats in this house that would tear it up. I keep some of the ornaments and share some with friends. I have a lovely assortment in boxes! lol Thanks, WC, about the cat. I hope to hear from the vet this morning that I can pick him up. Fingers crossed!

Thanks, ladies! Here is how the party works- One woman hosts the party- she sends out invitations, puts up her tree with ornaments from years past, cleans her house, etc. (She has the hardest job!) She provides the cups, plates, silverware, drinks, and a couple of snacks or dishes. She also provides many different serving platters and has her table ready to hold all the different foods that the ladies will bring. She invites 23 other women. Each woman is to bring 24 ornaments that she made by hand and a dish of their choice. They bring the ornies wrapped or loose, in a bucket or bag or on a tray, whatever, and puts them under the tree. Once everyone is there, we all get a drink (punch, soda, wine, eggnog, water) and then fix a plate of yummy goodies. We sit in the LR and eat and visit. Then we usually play some kind of Christmas game. THEN, she draws names and we hand out our ornaments, telling a story about them, or giving tips on how they were made, or why we picked that ornament to make, something. Everyone oooohs and aaaaaahs over the ornament and starts a pile by their chair. Then when they have handed out their ornie, they can use their bucket or bag to hold all the new ones they are getting from their friends. Once that is all done, we usually mill around more, visit, do some private trading with leftover ornies, eat more of the desserts and then finally leave, usually around 10 PM. We started at 6, so it's 4 fun-filled hours. I always bring Woody home a plate full of yummy treats, as his reward for staying home alone with the dogs while I have so much fun. :) It's great fun.

7 days til Christmas. I couldn't find my chalk, used a paper 7 for the photo

Angels have wings so they can fly. (I know, I expected a different answer, too!

Thanks for liking the elf, that makes me proud. And I'm lobbying for moving the party to July- we could have more people in the summer and eat and drink summery things. Heh. I volunteered to make margaritas. Of courseÃ¢ÂÂ¦

I like your elf best too. That "time flies" with the clock is clever. I've made the little tea light snowmen as well as the canning jar lid snowmen. All of the ornaments are nice. I also wonder what the 7 means. (the day of rest perhaps?)

The little chalkboard is for a message of your choosing. I will use it as an advent/countdown piece. Today, there are 7 days til Christmas. :)

I like the clock too... very shabby chic looking. I've seen the tealight snowmen on Pinterest...that's a cute idea, which is probably why 3 people made them. haha I like the JOY banner too... I'd hang that on a little cabinet or along a valance and leave it up all year! Very sweet! Of course, I still like your elf the best... he really is special!

They're all really good and you're making me miss the ornanment swaps I used to get to attend. I left that company is 1993 and only stayed in touch with one of ladies, but not the others. I still see her, but she lives so far away now, no ornament swap. I noticed there are three running themes at these things. I now have enough ornaments for an all Santa tree, all angel tree, and all snowman tree. BIG grin! Sure, there are others in there, but those are the main three. I love it when someone does something a bit different like your elf on the shelf. Which is adorable! I meant to say that the other day. Looking good!

One year, I did itty-bitty teddy bears with plaid vests and big red satin bow ties. Another year, I embroidered snowflakes in metalic thread on cross stich material that went over a 1 inch button. Then I braided the leftover metalic thread and wrapped that around the button.

My two favorite different ornaments? A gingerbread boy and girl pair made from punched tin and a girl made entires of tiny bobbins strung together with pretty ribbons.

I always look forward to your ornament party. We get to enjoy it vicariously--without having to make anything!

I love your elf too . . . but am I the only person who never heard of the Elf on the Shelf? Do I need to get out more?

I think Earth on Peace is great:

"This is your brain . . . this is your brain on drugs." (Remember that one?)

"This is your Earth . . . this is your Earth on Peace."

Susan, I see so many photo ops of Elf on the Shelf on Facebook and blogs, that's how I know of him. I would have loved it if my parents had done something like that for us at Christmas time. The most excitement we had was opening a little paper window on an advent calendar. LOL

enjoyingspring- I bought 3/4" wood ball beads at Hobby Lobby. 20mm ones work too. Then I painted them. It takes 5 long red chenille stems and one white one for each elf. And red and white felt, too. And I used red/white twine for the hanger.

rob333, I've certainly made my fair share of snowman ornaments! And reindeer ones. One year I painted little gourd birdhouses and another year I painted peanut hummingbirds. Last year, I painted a snowman and a reindeer peanut for each person. I have a lot of fun deciding on just the right ornament to make each year. This year I left it pretty late and got mine made all in the last week before the party, that's late for me!
