If it's the kids game you mean. I think it's a regional thing. I grew up with....duck...duck.....gray duck. Hubs said he grew up with duck...duck...drake. I;ve also heard of ...duck...duck...goose. Hee hee, I don't think the actual action of goose was used. At least I hope not. LOL

Hi everyone, Well, as promised, here I am posting about what in the world I've been doing all summer while traveling to & fro Wisconsin. As some of you already know, I work with fish-eating birds: cormorants, pelicans, herons, egrets, gulls, wood storks, etc. My husband and I have been working in Wisconsin for the past 3 years, but we also regularly work in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan, Ontario, and a few other places. Yes, we are a husband + wife team, working together out of the same office. Many people are surprised that we work together, but it is great. We make a fantastic team, and are often at our best under challenging field conditions. Great minds think alike, and being dear friends & in love sure helps too. (ok, enough with the mushy stuff). So now for a few photos from the vegetation surveys we did this month. Background: We are working on remote islands in Lake Michigan, around the Door Co. Peninsula area. All the islands have nesting double-crested cormorants and herring gulls. Some also have nesting Am. white pelicans and Canada geese. Back in April, we put up some 6 ft x 6 ft pens (we call them exclosures) to exclude the cormorants because they damage vegetation with their nesting activities (too much POOP!). So then we went back in August to catalog everything that grew in the pens, by plant species, and weighed it to also determine biomass. That meant breaking out the field guides, studying up on botany and the flora of Wisconsin, and bringing the plant presses for species we couldn't identify on the island. We compareed the exclosure plots to some "control" plots, which had nothing but 4 wooden stakes at the corners. We had 45 plots to do on 3 islands, plus another 3 islands down by the city of Green Bay that we did simple vegetation surveys on (no pens). It was alot of work, but very interesting. The bottom line: there are lots of nonnative species on those islands, like motherwort, catnip, pigweed, common mallow, stinging nettle and sow thistle. The native vegetation was primarily lambsquarter and smartweed species. Almost done clipping this 1-meter plot: Looking for small plants beneath the lambsquarter The finished, sampled 1-meter subplot Who would even know what this was?!?! I saved seeds to winter sow and see if I can't figure it out. The very last veg plot to measure. You can tell, because we look so happy! A friend found crawling across the plant press The stinging nettle I hacked through to make us a nice trail to get to the center of the island. At least its not poison ivy! Ok, that's all for now. Another vote for Goose!! This is what Wiki says:
"Duck, duck, gray duckThis variation, by all accounts, is only played in Minnesota.[2] This version adds an element to the game by introducing the placement of adjectives before nouns. So, as the game is played, the person that is "it" walks around the circle tapping heads he says what color duck the other players are. For example, "red duck", "blue duck", "yellow duck", etc., but when a player is called a gray duck, he gets up and chases the person who is "it". Often, the Mush Pot version of play is included in Duck, Duck, Gray Duck."

I do remember that, Chisue! We played that all the time!

My Memphis niece always said duck duck goose.

She also played something called "Debbil on the sidewalk".

At least that was her version. Think it was supposed to be Devil but she always said Debbil.

She also laughed until she shook, watching jello shake in her dish.

Vicky, you're saying that you talk about it at work because some people remember calling it goose and others called it something different, right? That's what I thought, anyway, when I answered. And yes, it was always duck, duck, goose. Never heard it any other way.

I grew up in the Chicago area saying "goose" but learned the "gray duck" variation when I moved to Minnesota (along with various other regionalizations such as pronouncing "aunt" like "ahnt" rather than "ant"!)

And here I thought it was like one of those forum games...LOL! So "nevermind"...silly me...what was I thinkin'?!

But all kiddin' aside...have there ever been forum games played here at KT? I know they play games at the QVC Community Forum. I think it could be fun for those who want to. Anyone have any ideas for any games?

As you can see from my name we're from MN, so MOST of us played DUCK DUCK GREY DUCK, one supervisor is from northern MN, and she played DUCK DUCK GOOSE. And she is amazed with the difference, and we've been trying to figure out for years where the dividing line is for GREY DUCK and GOOSE is. Never thought to look on WIKI until today to find out that the GREY DUCK is a MN thing.

Oh Cynic, I am heartbroken. This is the first issue ever that we've not seen eye-to-eye on. Oh woe is me and my duck, duck, and GOOSE! LOL

You unpack your groceries properly; you hang tissue paper properly; you keep house properly. Pack a bag and come visit. You, me, Harry, Sam, Wes, and the neighbors will play "Duck, Duck, Goose" until you get the hang of it! LOL Then my world will be properly back on its axis.
