Do You Have it Planned?

Do you have your Christmas dinner planned? Ours will be around 1:00 on Christmas Day. I really haven't planned much yet, probably will have ham and turkey and lots of other things. How is your menu coming along?

We will also eat about 1:00 on Christmas day. we go to my sister-in laws. I bring all the food and cook there. She does not cook. We will have ham(yuk) kolbassi, scalloped potatoes,potato salad, veggie, and deviled eggs. One of her friends brings turkey and fixins left over from thanksgiving. Plus tons of muffins and cookies, while we open gifts. It usually takes us three hours to do that. Just six of us. They spend way too much . There is nothing I want this year, Told my Dsil just a pair of fuzzy socks.

I am instead working on my post-cantata breakfast menu...
this Sunday, we are hosting 25 for breakfast.

I'll work on our Christmas Eve feast AFTER that!

Right now there is a eBay vendor selling leaves $22 plus $10 s/h http://www.ebay.com/itm/10-African-Violet-Leaves-Your-Choice-from-40-varieties-/201773197148. you an order 10 leaves including C'sEF, Price is pretty good - and she has a good selection. She is shipping from Bloomington IN. Right now it is miserably cold - but between now and then - there will be a window of shipping opportunity. Otherwise - it is a hybrid by Belinda Thibodeaux from LA. She also sells on ebay - and she has her own Facebook page where you can contact her. I do not think she ships in winter. But I am sure she will have starters for sale in spring. The description for Cajun's Ethereal Fairy says - wavy leaves. I tried several Cajun's - they are not hard to grow - but it is not easy to grow a nice flat rosette if it has wavy fleshy leaves. You need to pay attention to it, repot and turn frequently - and make sure that it doesn't touch anything else - otherwise leaves will grow like a propeller. Peppermint Girl is a mini. It is a hybrid by Hortense Pittman - and her plants are usually easy and rewarding to grow. But - being a mini and a girl it presents you with the specific challenges All girl leaf AVs grow slowly. We drove across 4 states to visit my daughter and granddaughter. GD starts 5th grade next week. On the drive back, I'll stop in at my niece to chat a bit. I'm searching for a family member to pass my collection of family memorabilia to. To many, these scraps of paper and photos would be junk and trashed. I'm looking for someone who will treat these old papers gently and who wants the photos. I have discovered that my Niece's son has taken an interest in his family history and my value these things. I'm old enough to know that I do not have many years left and I don't want these items left to chance. We lost a box of family papers that my Aunt had because. she had not passed it to someone. My earliest scrap is a promissory note written in Tennessee in 1822 that promises to pay in bushels of corn. There is another note promising to pay in the money of Tennessee, Coming forward, I have the original Muster Roll of a Captain in the Black Hawk War of 1832 in Illinois and Wisconsin. It is the copy carried by the Captain during the campaign as proved by field notes scribbled on the document. These are two are of the most historical significance in the collection. There are many other items such as property tax receipts and letters. During the 1830s, the Baptist Church split. The breakaway group retained the name, Baptist while the original group changed their name to Primitive Baptist. Also, there was a split in my ancestor's family. One Son went with the new Baptist group and was named a trustee. I have his copy of a deed of land given to the new church. These items are stuff that genealogists value, but is trash to others. I am looking for a keeper of family papers and photos. Other than this, we don't have any plans for the holiday.

This thread is another reminder of what a time in history this is. Everything is impacted by covid. Travel plans include a couple of road trips to see college kids and their sports this winter/spring. One is planning to study abroad in the fall, so I will visit wherever he ends up. I'm also planning a trip to New Orleans to visit a cousin. If Mtn likes snorkeling in Bonaire, I'm heading there, too! No major house renos planned. But I've got 2 furniture projects I need to complete, or else get rid of them. I had a lot of decision fatigue in 2021 regarding my house, and I'm feeling more prepared to just get things done and move on. I'm also considering some changes in my career this year, so that's going to be a primary focus. To all of those expecting new family members and planning weddings, etc., congratulations! And to those with health issues, my best wishes.

We gave a beautiful rib roast in the freezer that we got on sale a few weeks back. I haven't thought much about the rest of the meal. I'd like to make Yorkshire pudding.

Grass fed local rib roast....other than that....dunno....time...dunno either...maybe around 3??

We don't do a big xmas dinner,the house is like Grand Central Station all day,in and out.So we usually have donuts and drinks for the early morning crowds and i usually have stew in the crock pot for later in the day for anyone that want to come/stay to eat.

Pretty much the same menu as Thanksgiving here too, except we will have cut out cookies and other sweets that I make for Christmas but not Thanksgiving

Probably the same as always....ham, kielbassi, hot German potato salad, green bean casserole, home made biscotti, challah bread, relish tray with crudites. . .
