What's Your Best "Find" on a Gift You're Giving This Christmas?

I found these at Dollar Tree for gift baskets for extended family and teachers:

Packages of 3-ounce bags of Russell Stovers brand caramels, coconut and mint patties in pretty holiday packaging, plus a small 8.4 ounce bottle of Martinelli's sparkling white (and red) grape juice, and Creme de Pirouline chocolate wafers in cylindrical tins.

Each item cost $1--plus is a well-known name-brand item--and I'm putting 5 items in each basket (with shredded tissue filler) and a Christmas-themed see-through basket bag with ribbon/gift tag included. I found the bags as a 3-pack for $1 and bought small green baskets for $1 each. Each gift basket will total $7, including wrap and tissue, but a friend said they'll look like I spent at least 2x that!

Check out your dollar store if you're stuck for ideas, but hurry as most of the good stuff will be gone very soon! I'd love to hear your bargains as I always keep an eye out for new ideas.

For my wife the best bargain I came up with for Christmas
comes with a lifetime warranty, low upkeep, multi purposed,
self cleaning, some service required on occasion but satisfaction guaranteed, but non returnable....................ME..(but i'll toss in some practical gifts too)

Congrats! We have a new one baby coming in 2010 also! It is still very early for our DD...but they couldn't keep it a secret! LOL We are Nana & Papa! When the girls got bunnies years ago, they said we were grandpa and grandma....nope, don't like that so we went with Nana & Papa! Only prob, the other grandmother is called Nana also...and long before the kids met. :/ Oh well, they will figure it out quick! DH has a VHS to DVD gadget that he bought last winter. He has all of our old tapes now on DVD and we sent many to the neighborhood kids...that now have their own kids...from years ago when there were 15 kids in our neighborhood! Great fun, then and now! We haven't had our family Christmas yet, until the 9th then we will have all the kids together....to me, that is the best gift of all!!

It wasn't a gift, but when DH and I were at my Step-father's on Boxing day to help him eat the desserts, he mentioned that a neighbour's wife had died of cancer this summer. This was a total shock to me. My parents live on a court, and I "know" of the man he was talking about because I remember when he got his little long-haired doxie as a puppy. We got such a kick out of him training this teeny-weeny dog.....he was scared of the grass, wouldn't walk on it. The couple is about my age. When we were leaving I told hubby to drop me off at the guy's house. He had his Christmas lights on, and I knocked. I told him who I was, and that how sorry I am, etc etc. We both had tears in our eyes and we rubbed each other's arm; (didn't hug.) He was so touched that I would stop and see him. His wife died 3 weeks after Mom. I'm so glad I did that, and I still tear up thinking about him (as I am now)

Thank you both for sharing your stories. It’s obvious that so many have been through this sorrow. Even all these years later, I want to say that I’m sorry for all your losses. I can’t imagine losing a baby at 8 months gestation, or going through multiple miscarriages. What bravery it must have taken for all of you to try again. Yet, your experiences give great hope. My daughter has always talked about adopting a child, wether she could carry one herself or not. My children’s father was adopted, and my daughter always wanted to give a child a good life, who might otherwise not have a loving family. I suspect I’ll be a grandma someday, one way or another. I’ve really been touched by all your support and the sharing of your personal stories. We’re slowly healing emotionally, and she’s healing physically very well. I finally put the picture I received as my “Best Christmas Gift Ever”, away a few days ago. I’m encouraged by your NCLEX experience, SJN. She joked about being cut off at 75 questions, being either a very good sign, or a VERY BAD sign. I’m pretty sure it’s the former. She had nothing but “A’s” through the entire program, and feels good about how the test went. Today she has an interview at the hospital nearest my home. The nursing license should be posted online tomorrow, if all went well. We’re waiting with baited breath, but I’d be shocked if she didn’t pass. (I hope I don’t end up regretting saying that.) Lisa

For a college guys gift basket Dollar Tree had: Brut shaving creme, pkg of disposible razors, Yardley soap

I love their selection of lotion too!

They also have sliced hard salami,Monet crackers and a cute serving tray.....maybe to bring to the office party?

I got my son a 5-pc set of luggage from Kohls. I waited for the 30% off sale. This set happened to be marked down from $229. to $99. Then marked down to $79. for just that day. Then I got the additional 30% off with my coupon which brought it down to $55!

I got my daughter a king size alternative down reversible comforter from Kohls for $26.99, regular price was $119.99

Just ordered myself and one of my brothers a 1 year subscription to Readers Digest for $3.99! Go to discountmags.com then type in Readers Digest in the search. It's regular $14.97 (I think). Put it in your shopping cart, then type in BRADSDEALS in the coupon section and it should take it to $3.99 Hope it's still available, I just did it earlier today. You can also pay using paypal so you don't have to give your credit card info.

Both my cousin and I lost power for about a week with Hurricane Sandy. She had no phone service after her cell phone battery ran down because she had no corded phone to plug into the phone jack. So I bought her a "princess" type phone for the next power outage. It's white, and brand new in its box. Got it on eBay for $5.90 with free shipping!

My daughter and I both love Downton Abbey.If you don't watch the show, part of the plot revolves around the valet being tried for murdering his wife.In a catalog I found a tee shirt with big letters saying FREE BATES.And his picture covering the front of shirt. She will love it.

Also wanted to mention, I went through ebates when I checked out my online order with Kohls. I got $17 cash back from the almost $200 purchase I made.

I check ebates before I order anything online.

I work at a grocery store and as you know they carry much more than just groceries now... After mid summer they started marking down summer stuff. I got a popup screened in "house" enough for a table and couple of chairs for my DD and her DH. Was over 50.00 got it for 7.50. They love to go camping and it will be great for shaded/bug free hanging out and for the dogs too. I also got them a BIG umbrella for the patio table, for 10.00. They will be surprised and happy come next summer. Those were the big buys for them. I got a bunch of other things, a set of tupperware(told me at Thanksgiving they don't have lids anymore for what they have) they all snap together for space saving. Got 28 piece set for 8.00. Regular price was 19.99. Stuff like that. Practical but good buys.
Got a good friend a really cute iron ware decorated piece. She likes yard art stuff and she can hang this outside. It was 15.00. got it for 3.00. Really pretty piece. So check out your grocery stores come seasonal change.... you will find some good bargains!
