Somebody tried to steal Conway

Somebody tried to steal little Conway from in front of

the grocery store on Sunday. Ted called me all in a

panic. He had him tied up at the newspaper stand,

where he always leaves him. Said for some reason,

this white truck driving through the parking lot

caught his attention and he stopped right inside the

front doors of the store to watch it. Guy, about 60,

pulled right up to the paper stand, got out and tried

to snatch Conway. Ted was already back outside before

the guy could get him. When Ted confronted him, the

guy jumped back in his truck and took off.

Glad daddy was paying attention for a change. I don't know what I'd do without that little guy.

That is scary but not unexpected. I wouldn't leave anything I valued out of my sight and not secured. There are thieves everywhere.

-mmqchdygg, I took a look at the stock image site (openstockphotography) they mentioned. It was REALLY strange, because when I went there the first time all the images on the Scrophularia (the plant in my pic) page were blocked out and said something like they were 'pending removal from WikiCommons'. Today the page is totally empty! -Mindy, no appology. At this point I would rather not hear from them again. Maybe they wanted my address to send a dozen 'sorry' roses? Lol! More like skunk cabbage and poison ivy. :-] -quick side note-you mentioned above that you couldnt get Scrophularia auriculata to overwinter? That is interesting since mine seems super hardy. The basal foliage is even semi-evergreen. Thanks one and all for the support in this. I am so glad it is over. Now we can get back to to pleasant garden/plant talks! CMK

My deliberation process was interrupted by the phone. It seems someone stole my husband's credit card number so they're having to cancel his card and issue a new one. Want a good laugh? The people who stole his number used it at an online Christian t-shirt site, where they purchased just less than $2000 worth of silkscreened tees! LOL! How crazy is that?????? Here is what I obtained from our village website. They only provided "tips". I have included my comments to some items. More detail would have been helpful: Tips on Home Remodeling Getting Started The Village of xxxx allows homeowners to act as contractor for their own home remodeling projects. It must be noted, however, that a permit is required for all projects in which an addition or alteration will be done at the property. (comments: I can understand additions, difficult to define "alteration" e.g. cabinets replacement, carpet replacement with hardwood flooring, or replacing existing vanity and tub, or replacing existing fluorescent light with regular light.. etcare these "alteration"? or alteration of the structure of the home?.. this is a grey area dont understand this.. this can be interpreted different ways unless there is a definite definition for this) Additionally, projects that require the alteration of the roofline of the existing structure must have drawings sealed by a (STATE) licensed architect or structural engineer. Lastly, check the covenants for your subdivision before proceeding with any work; individual subdivision covenants may have special requirements and restrictions. Obtaining a Permit Although many people consider obtaining a permit to be a burden, it does have a critical role in any construction project. Having a permit entitles each homeowner: · Provides inspectors to answer questions. · Offers some security from contractor fraud. (some security? What does this mean? With permit contractor fraud did happen. With "zero" security from the village) · Allows inspectors an opportunity to verify that the contractor is working in a professional manner.(does this mean that the inspectors verify the quality of work and also the behavior of the contractors? Define what does it mean by "verify that the contractor is working in a professional manner" again.. this can be interpreted differently by inspectors according to their likeness unless there is a definite definition) Tips on Hiring a Contractor · Insist on a written contract. Obtain a written contract and make sure you understand the terms. Include a time frame for the completion of the project, but do not rush. Include terms of a payment plan and agree as to who will handle additional unforeseen expenses. · Make secure payments. It is not unusual for a contractor to require some money up front before construction starts. Make certain, however, that payments do not get ahead of work that has been completed. Never pay the full cost of the job up front. If a contractor insists on full payment up front, look for a different person. · Conduct interviews with potential contractors. Remember the contractor is working for you. Be certain that you are comfortable working with this person. Additionally, talk with friends and neighbors: people who have had experiences with contractors (good or bad) are always willing to share their knowledge. · Check with the Better Business Bureau. Checking with the Better Business Bureau will give you an opportunity to assess a potential contractors work history. · Verify the handling of inspections. Come to an agreement as to who will handle the permit and inspection process. If the contractor is scheduling the inspections, ask for copies of the results and keep them with the permit. · Make sure the contractor has insurance. Without insurance you may be liable if a worker is hurt in your home. The Village of XX does have an ordinance requiring all contractors working within the village to be licensed and bonded. · Ask for at least 3 references. Make sure that the sources had work done that was similar to your proposed project. · Get at least 3 bids. Check material pricing with that of your local building supply store to see if the price quoted is fair. · Establish a reasonable timeframe. If the contractor states the project will take 8 weeks, do not insist on 6 weeks; doing so might affect the quality of work. Revised

As a mom, I understand your wife's feelings. I have two sons ~ 20 & 23. The 23 left at 18 because he didn't like my rules, he came back several times because he couldn't loaf in any one place very long... but when I allowed him to come back, he ALWAYS had conditions! Had to find a job... spend his day looking, not sleeping all day. He had to do chores... more chores if he wasn't working because he had more time. He had to pay $50 a week. and he had to follow our house rules.. no staying up all night watching movies or playing video games, clean up after yourself, and he could only fix himself meals when we were preparing our meals. (He was welcome to eat what we were having but if he didn't like it, he could fix himself something else... but he could only do so when I was making dinner~ not after all the dinner dishes were done & kitchen was clean, because even though he had to clean up after himself, he is not very good at it so we'd end up having to do it over.) Consequently, my son CHOSE to not stay with me very long.. usually a few weeks & he'd find someone's couch. That's why he came back several times. We stuck to our conditions and he kept coming back, hoping we'd let him slide. He eventually joined the military and has matured a lot in the last two years. But, I am also going through it with my 20 year old son... having to stay firm & consistent with the rules. If they don't like it, they are "adult" age and can go do something else. You should not feel like a prisoner in your own home & suspect your wife agrees but it's her son & she doesn't want to turn him away, but maybe is conflicted because she remembers how bad it was when he was there before... I feel for her. Oh yeah, if he is leaving Dad's because he doesn't like the rules or being told what to do, does he think it will be different in your home? I think this is one time you & your wife should get together with Dad & stepmom to have the same rules/expectations in both houses.

Conway is the sexiest PUG in the world! Just ask him! LOL
He walks to the store every day with his daddy. Everyone in our little downtown neighborhood knows him. We're going to have to be more careful. I can't believe someone would try to snatch him right in front of the glass store front. *shaking head*

Those Pugs are such cuties. I know DD would like to have one. Sad to say, there is always someone that would rather steal than get one honestly.
I know Mac the Chi would never go with anyone willingly. Miss the Doxie might, but they'd really have to kiss up to her first! Andddd they'd probably return them since the are a couple of brats! LOL

Now this is a case where I can say its too bad Conway didn't bite the guy!!!

Did he get his license plate number? I'd want to report that glassbowl as soon as possible, I can't imagine how sleazy you'd have to be to steal someone's DOG! Geez.

I'm sure glad his Daddy was there to save him, you'd have been devastated, Ang.

How frightening. I hope you've reported the car license number to the police. Even more frightening than losing your dog to an unscrupulous pug-lover would have been to lose Conway to someone that would sell him to a chemical lab or dog fighting group.

I'm so glad this story has a happy ending. No more tie outs for Conway, please.

My worst fear is of having Harry, or BeeGee, go missing. They are microchiped, tattooed, and wear ID collars with "Reward" and both our cell numbers on them. I have security locks on all the fence gates, and never leave them unattended. Still, it's a constant fear.

I think Ted was too shocked to even think about looking at the plates. Conway's been going to the grocery every morning since he was 8 weeks old. The manager, clerks and customers love all over him and spoil him rotten. Never thought to worry about somebody trying to take him in our sleepy little neighborhood.
Glad my eyes were opened before someone did snatch him.

He should still call the police and report the car and a description of the guy. C'dA is a small enough town that they should be able to track him down on that alone, I would think. what a jerk that guy is!

Oh my gosh, that's terrible. I am so glad and so relieved for you all that Daddy was there to save him. I'm thinking that was probably a scumbag that tried to take him, but have you thought that maybe the person thought Conway had been abandoned? Either way I'm glad Conway is safely at home.

Wow, that was scary for Conway and you. Thank goodness Daddy was on the alert. No more tie ups on the newsstand I guess. Any dognapping would be sad, but I love pugs so much. I haven't my 2 little ones in the morning recently, which is just as well because I just about drive off the road when I do. :-)

Such a cutie pie. I would watch him like a hawk and never let him out of my site again. I am glad he didn't get stolen. They have been having lots of dog thefts in my area. You have to be so careful nowadays.

Some people are just so low. I'm glad that he didn't get away with it. Keep your eye on that cute little pug.
It's Xmas time and maybe he want to give Conway as a gift. Last week three puppies were stolen from the humane society after they closed. I'm pretty sure they were beagels.
