I know there are mouth watches that help, but ACT is the one I think of. Not sure about using salt water and/or hydrogen peroxide. What does your doctor or pharmasist say. Hope you are feeling better after you see the dentist.

Believe me, leave them in and the uppers will feel like they are your own.

I have uppers because my parents did not take of my teeth when I was a child. I am thankful that it was my uppers only. There is suction that holds the uppers in place there is nothing to hold the lower ones, they just lie there. I remember feeling like they had made teeth for a horse the first time I put them in my mouth and was advised to leave them in, removing then only to rinse my mouth with hydrogen peroxide. I think this is why many seniors won't wear their teeth, they never get used to them.

This is after the fact, but would like to tell everyone if you have to have your lowers pulled always leave 3 or 4 lower teeth to work as implants. Sometimes gum disease makes this impossible.

I know what you are going thru I've had nothing but trouble with my teeth for the last three years. I had full uppers made back in the 70's and several replacement sets. They needed a little tweaking and a good tooth glue ( ( only use the powder) keeps them in ok the bottoms forget it I had the implants for posts and a set of the bottm snap on's which gave me nothing but trouble I finally got the dentist to tweak them and then he decided to have them religbed which made them totally unacceptable when I'd bite down on one side the other side would lift off.He told me not to come back and gave a list of other dentists in the area. Hey! I didn't make the blankety blank things.
They are sitting in a jar. the posts cut into my gums and the oral surgeon fixed them so they wouldn't do that and expects the gum to just heal over them in case I want to get a new set of bottoms later on. Now I find I have very little problems eating without the bottoms . Gone are biting into adelicious steak but if it is cut into small pieces it's ok.

At last the last couple of months I've been able to think about something besides my mouth.
I should have sued the one dentist but I'm not tht kind of person His bad ethics will come back to haunt him and I'm leaving that to a higher power.

Colgate Orabase in a tube is another helpful thing to have on hand. And the peroxide is good too just dont swallow. To others try and keep the bottoms as long as you can
Also keep after your dentist he is the one making the teeth .
My Dentists assistant did most of his work she'd been with him 15 years and thought she knew everything.

Thanks everyone...I didn't get the implants on the lowers as that was 2400 more dollars and we don't have dental insurance so we (B and I ) decided that I would see how I did with them without and if need be then get the implants....I was like wow 2400 thats alot of new boots LMAO!!
I hope today when I go back that they can fix the bottom..I took my last pain pill and it has eased the pain for now but know when that wears off I am back to hurting....
I know this is what I needed to do...I was lucky my parents did everything as a child and teen for my teeth just got blessed with my moms teeth and that is not a good thing!!!
What kind of powder are you talking about? I have seen the gels but don't know about the powders.....I am going to walmart this evening when B gets in from work so will ck it out then...a friend is taking me to the dentist as we are a one car family right now his truck is getting a new motor put in...I so hate begging for a ride but know the sooner I get these bottom teeth back in the better off I will be and yes i feel like I have horse teeth didn't think I would think that as I had the tops and bottoms in teh front were all crowns but this is a whole new ballgame!!! the only up side I have found so far is that I have lost 5 lbs! If I lose the other 15 I need to I will be a happy camper!! Stacy

Oh,Grinch, I know so well how painful that is. Back in the late 60's I had so much trouble with my teeth, getting abscesses again and again. So I decided to get them all pulled. I went into the hosp, had them all taken out under gen. anesthesia and they put the new dentures (all ready made) in. The first few weeks were tough, and like many said it is the lowers that were the worst. Even now, having the same set for over 40 yrs, every so often the bottoms will make a sore, but I have a Dremel and I just grind the offending spot off on the lower denture and in a day my mouth is OK. All I can say is, as tough as it is, you have to keep them in, and hounding your Dentist until they get them fitting right. Good luck and I hope pretty soon you can smile and show off your new pearly whites.

Stacy, keep going back until they fix it so there are no sore points in your mouth. My denturist just looks to see where sore points are and then knows exactly where to work on the denture. Dentures should not hurt. You aren't being a baby - gum pain is not fun at all and not being able to chew and crunch your food is the absolute pits. I've had them for many years without any pain at all.

Mine finally broke last spring (I had an old type of implant in the uppers....an experiment by my dentist who was teaching dentistry at a university.) The dentist died and I had to find someone new. The denturist talked me into new ones instead of fixing the old which was probably better (they were REALLY old). I got uppers that are held in by suction only - no goop/liners/powders. They needed minor adjustments until they were comfortable but I was able to call and they took me that day each time. The only trouble is that since the roof of your mouth is now covered in plastic, food tastes minimally or like cardboard since a lot of taste buds are in the roof of your mouth.

The denturist talked me into implants saying I would be so much happier tasting my food again. They are supposed to be more stable for eating. Also because your general health is better because you are eating more fruit and veggies without worry, this is also an overall benefit. Unfortunately there are quite a few steps to implants and it will be about 9 months before I will get my final ones. They are expensive but I am worth it! I can do without other things like new clothes, a new car etc.

I understand that lower implants are more beneficial/necessary since your tongue is a strong muscle and tends to push those dentures around causing problems if you have no bottoms teeth. I am not an expert in all of this though. I am absolutely terrified of dentists and get quite stressed whenever I go. I probably don't remember half of what is said because of my stress.

My husband's experience is that nothing stopped the sore spots, different dentures, different dentist's, nagging them whatever, nothing worked until he had implants. It cost him $5,000. for 3 posts, no problem after that except for adjusting the tightness of the clips ever so often. My husband said if the implants just lasted a couple of years it was well worth the money to be able to eat without pain. They lasted from before he retired in 1988 until his death 3 years ago.

Stacie, I just got a new set myself, and I will keep going back till they fit right. That's what you should do. He does a few adjustments at a time, because if you take too much away, you're out of luck, so a little at a time until you get the right fit and bite.

The powder I'm talking about is PoliGrip Denture adhesive powder The SUPER one I think Efferdent makes one also . I read on the internet last year the dangers of using the paste kind (in a tube like toohpaste) I clean my teeth then moisten them and sprinkle powder in the front end and then shake it off onto a paper towel then dip the teeth in water then insert in mouth. It makes a good hold and is comfortable

Thank you everyone for the words of support and help hints and tips...I knew where to come when this all started......even though I had been away again for awhile! I am so thankful for my gf that offered to take me today so that I didn't have to wait til tomorrow!!! She is the bestest! I will post when I get home and let you all know.....Stacy

Implants are very expensive and it takes a long time to get through the whole process. I had two implants in 2005--if I ever lose another tooth, I absolutely will go the implant route again. I don't even know they are there. Well worth the money! I don't have dental insurance, so I paid the whole bill. I will not suffer to save money.

Like I said in my post, above. I've had the same set of dentures for over 40 yrs. There isn't anything I can't eat. One of my fave snacks is peanuts.

Thanks again everyone....I was to scared to even consider implants...have heard way to many horrer stories.....I went and they adjusted the lowers and it feels fine other then I had worn it all wkend and caused a sore....so will have to work with that til it heals....Thanks agian!!! Had the best luck with Orajel Antiseptic Mouth Sore Rinse (in a white bottle) when I got my dentures. Still use it when I get a sore heals it up fast. Hang in there it will get better.

You will get "hot spots". Keep going back to the dentist to have the dentures adjusted. This is just part of fitting dentures. It happens to everyone. Be patient.

Try a cup of water with two tsp of apple cider vinegar and 1/2 tps of salt for a mouth wash/gargle. Warm it before you use it. I keep it in the fridge because it will get that string stuff in if it I don't. My oral surgeon recommended that.

Another over thecounter product I like to have on hand is a package of KANKA by Blistex This is a blister pack of a Soft Brush and a tube of Blistex for your lips I like the soft brush it is like a long eyebrow pencil and you adjust the amount of the gel that comes out When you apply it to the gum area and is handy for reaching in the back of your mouth you have to look for it I hink I found mine at a Walgrens

Stacy,that's an easy fix for dentures.Just go back and they will sand them down so they don't rub.In the meantime tear a piece of a napkin off,not too big and wherever it is hurting put that piece of napkin under that spot until you can get to the dentist.The napkin will cushion it and you'll be able to eat.

I've had dentures since i was 25 and i'm now 72.I'm on my 2nd set.Ieat everything ,apples,caramels etc,no problems.
You just have to get used to them.I only take mine out when i'm in the shower,i've been sleeping with them in since day 1.Dentist told me to,told me to put a mint in my mouth when i went to bed until i got used to them..

Don't give up,it's all fixable!!

Without question I think the best denture powder is Wernets..it is more expensive, but lasts forever..but your dentures aren't moving around at all.

Wernets..I used that years ago but haven't seen it around Thanks for mentioning it I couldn't remember the name

Another hint if you get some swollen gum place a regular tea bag on it for a while it will help reduce the swelling
