Rainy, this is a secondary vine we are talking about, so can I really wahck it or not? And can I use daconil as a spray on the wound site? I have already used daconil on the leaves to prevent powdery mildew which I do NOT have on this plant yet (knock on wood).

Thanks, ladies -- whenever I make something for the first time I tend to overthink everything, print out a dozen recipes and then worry until dinnertime. I blind baked my crust and it's not real pretty because my crimping left a lot to be desired but I broke off a piece and it's really flakey and good. I'm going to mix up my filling now and take Coconut's advice and cut back, microwave, and taste. I always prefry meatloaf, meatballs and Hungarian hamburger to taste for seasoning but never thought I could do it with pie filling. I'm going to try the King's recipe someday, too, if this one fails so thanks readinglady. I really appreciate all the feedback -- now it's back to cooking.....

It should be fine if you put the pies in after the turkey & all else is out - sometimes when guests bring things to put in the oven & there is no space the hostess gets stressed. I love when my guests bring their pies all baked - it takes stress off of me & my oven when trying to make sure everything gets done at on time. The kitchen is such a busy place that day and there is alot of stress to make it the prefect thanksgiving. I would probably bake my pies ahead,take them finshed, and dig in with 2 hands to help my DD with her 1st thanksgiving. I learned this lesson a long time ago - my Dear MIL just about freaked out when I brought something to be baked to the first thansgiving I spent with them - I was trying to impress -she was trying to get dinner on the table!

So sweet of you to want to make you husband a pie from your own kitchen. I've made a lot of pies, but only two BCPs (Banana Cream Pies). I love BCPs and home baked, from scratch always tastes the best. Both times I couldn't resist making "black bottom BCP" -- that means I grated semi-sweet chocolate atop the baked (from scratch) pie shell, then added the easy-as-pie to make vanilla/banan pudding and banana filling. I topped it with my own whipped cream (just a bit of sugar and vanilla added). I put a few shaving of semi-sweet chocolate atop the whipped cream (just a bit). Pie crust is easy for me to make, but it was t always that way. My first attempt used a d tossed out a whole 5 pound bag of AP flour just trying to get a simple shell. So if making your own pie crust will be anything other than fun for you, keep it simple for now and go with a sure bet such as the wafers. Same for the filling and topping. Your sweetheart will find your homemade pie delicious. Have fun making it and send us a photo if not a slice. i too was just looking at a photo and recipe of BCP, so there could be something in the air.
