Update on my MD appointment

Got an earlier appointment in student health. Was there from 9-10:30. The PA thinks it is most likely either stress or fibroids since that is what my mom had. Not a whole lot they can do in the clinic but she did put me on a course of "Provera Challange"- it is supposed to reset whatever is all screwed up. A week of this med and then I "get" to have another cycle. That will be just in time for my next appointment on 12/22 with a GYN that specializes in crazy sycles and the Novasure Procedure (thanks to whoever mentioned the name of this procedure).

The PA said she had to go through several cycles of D&Cs because her MD did want to do antyhing else. I told the PA that I would just as well like them to yank it out and be done with it. She said I had a pretty good sense of humor about it- I told her that it was either cry of laugh and I though laughing was probably better since I was at work today.

I had the novasure 4 years ago and have not had a period since!! I highly recomend it to everyone. Slight cramping afterwards and that was it. Not even close to the pain I had with my periods. I had TERRIBLE periods that lasted 5-7 days and arrived every 21 days on the dot. I felt like a new women after the procedure.

Hi Janie, I was the one who had the Novasure procedure. I cannot stress enough how this changed my life. I used to have to schedule vacations and other fun stuff around my cycle. I can remember one time my dh and all our friends went canoeing and I couldn't go because I couldn't be that far from a bathroom!!!

Another thing my doctor did before the novasure thing was to have me take high doses of naproxin twice a day for a week before I expected my period. That really helped too, provided I knew when that week was coming!!

Good luck!!! Don't hesitate if they suggest this procedure; piece of cake! :)

Chisue, I meant to ask how many surgeries like this he has done, but I forgot to. I was thinking of calling the office and asking about that. I doubt he would put me in touch with anyone who has had the surgery, he's a man of few words and a little abrupt. Mind you, he's supposed to be an excellent surgeon and that's the main thing. I might try a forum- he thinks they're both meningiomas, but he won't know for sure until the biopsy. He said the surgery would take place in about two months, but I'm going to try to make sure it's after Easter. I always have the family here for Easter and I don't want to miss out on doing that, with all of this going on... I don't envy you, having sinus troubles for 30 plus years. That must have been an ordeal! I get what you're saying about improved techniques and imaging. They can do a lot now that they couldn't do years ago.

Hi, lurker here. First off, CONGRATS!!! Secondly, my SIL lives in the Ontario area. She didn't see an OB the whole time she was PG with my niece, just a family dr. She didn't have a family doctor either, but she got priority b/c she was pregnant and she was able to get one and see him regularly. Try the walk-in - you may get priority b/c of being PG and not have to be put on a waiting list for a family doctor. Good luck!

Sorry to hear of your recent problems, Sue, and pleased that they seem to be being dealt with effectively. Thank you for your comprehensive story ... perhaps it may be helpful to others. We'd suggested an alert button for my old beef-farmer stepuncle, childless through two marriages, who'd had a hip replaced three times, with resultant pains in back, hips and leg and needlessly had cattle in the barn, though he had no need of the money, following the death of his wife, who in winter would start things happening if he didn't return after doing chores. I spent a couple of months with him until the cattle went to pasture. He did get an alert button a few months before his death, a couple of years later. If one has an alert button ... it's a good idea to have the people on the notify list have a key to one's house, or know where to find a well-hidden one, if one does not want to have one's door broken in when an emergency develops. In recent times, perhaps a cell phone would be a worthwhile alternative, with increased capabilities included. ole joyful

Bac717, I am so happy for you. It is so scary to have "questionable findings" without a pandemic to add to the chaos. I had the same exact thing happen the first week of April with the same results. On top of it, at that time it was almost impossible to get a biopsy or see a breast specialist. Because of this, I encourage everyone to stay on top of all medical visits and don't reschedule because you can do it later. Later might be impossible or at least more difficult. In two weeks I have a skin check at Memorial Slone Kettering. I was at a regular derm to take off a few little growths that I thought were benign warts and of course, one was not. I've been down this road before so my concern is minimal and I know that I am not in danger, but I will not wait till I'm fully vaccinated to see the specialist.

I had the Novasure procedure done in August of 07. I still get my period, but it's much lighter. At least now I can leave the house during that time of the month. LOL

Well, I learned something today! I didn't know that the endometrial ablation (which I previously spelled wrong) was also called the Novasure procedure. That's what I had in 1997 and it was the best thing I could have done!

I have a question about endometrial ablation. I have several fibroids which have now stretched my uterus to almost double its normal size. I have heavy bleeding and anemia. Can an endometrial ablation be used when there are fibroids? I've been trying to put off a hysterectomy becasue I am close to menopause, but my symptoms are getting worse.

You should ask your doctor about that, Matti. Maybe he/she will think it will work for you.
