Thank you for the birthday wishes I received yesterday.

I had a wonderful day! We went to Tucson with our friends, Gene and Judy. There was a large RV show and we went in and out of all the new fancy motor homes. It was fun to see what is out there, but I still love mine better than ever. I can't imagine paying $300,000 for a home on wheels.

From there we went to Lowe's and I bought a new stove. It is exactly what I was looking for and will be delivered on the 15th just in time to bake my pralines and Christmas dinner. Here's a look at my new stove, click on videos and product demos to see it better. It has one large oven and then there is a plate to slide in it to make two ovens that can have two different temps. I also got it for the same price that Sears had it for.

Then we went across town and ate at the Black Angus Restaurant. I belong to their birthday club so my dinner was free up to $18.99. I had a nice prime rib, loaded baked potato and steak soup. Judy got the same as I did and then I had a coupon for the guys to get steak, lobster and shrimp for under $17.00. We were all full and happy when we left.

After we had ordered my phone rang and it was my folks singing happy birthday to me. Dad was so pleased that he remembered my birthday, I was glad too as it meant he had a good day and that made Bernice's day much easier. She sounded really happy, I love her so much.

It had started raining about 3:30 and was coming down pretty good on the way home. Once we turned onto the highway leading to Sierra Vista the rain stopped and it didn't appear that they had any rain at all, which is good since last night was the Christmas Parade.

It was a birthday to remember for many years to come.

Greg and Joan, I'm looking forward to more pics from you two! Golden Pagoda is intriguing. You don't see that one much, and I bet it gets very prominent points in the Houston heat. Joan, maybe you hire a little crew of teenagers every Spring Break to help you out with those 200 trees! Can't wait to see the blooms that are developing here, and you bet I'll post when I get a chance. Robert, that Lemon Drop is Thornton's and one of only a few big ones I have. It's certainly the "branchiest". That's what you can look forward to in a few more years! Bill, our little guy gets us invited back to a lot of places! We would all love to go back to CA soon. Will definitely let you know if we get a chance. K, glad the seeds are coming up for you; they're the perfect flowers for a Texas drought! Yes, that is TLD on the tree because my memory is just THAT bad, lol. Sometimes I abbreviate and then ask myself, "Now what the heck does that stand for again?" Dave, thanks for the compliments! I'm in Austin. We're 8b but I've seen at least one big plumeria tree kept in the ground all winter in my neighborhood. It can be done in a sheltered spot with frost cloth since our freezes are all short-lived. Mike, I found another possible oh-please-let-it-be inflo today, so I feel like I won the lottery! Hope you also have a great bloom year!

Hey francy, I'm using EK paint in the trim formulation--the ICI Dulux Lifemaster 9200 (see link below), mixed with a tad bit of Floetrol. The paint mostly levels out (DH says it does completely--he's amazed how easy it was for me to get a good finish on melamine), in fact I'd say it's more uniform than the other surfaces I've done with a brush (it occurs to me that I hadn't used floetrol in the other trim I painted--Devine trim paint), but there is a bit of a texture, just an imperceptible bit. But it's all over, not linear. I really like the look of it, but you might not. I think Michael had said to go over it with a brush if you want to get rid of the "stipple", but I would rather leave it as it is--the risk is greater for me than the potential reward. Maybe trying Floetrol will give you greater control, longer workability and leveling than you have now? Just a possibility. When I first tried it I poured out a little paint into a yogurt container and mixed a tiny amount of floetrol into it, just to see what I thought of the different consistencies/workabilities. I much prefer life with Floetrol now. :) AND life with the Jumbo-Koter.

Oh that's true! Your fall is not my fall. Well with mine, when I do cuttings, I usually expect some semblance of roots in a month's time, hence the 1/2 strength fertilizer business. Then about 2 months in, I begin regular full strength on indoor plants because they only get watered once a month and fertilized once a month (for a total two watering sessions). I would fertilize in September and October, then for me, I will usually just water through the winter (Nov to Jan) very intermittently....like maybe once a month if it's indoors. I know some people still lightly fertilize in the winter, too, with indoor plants. I'll leave that part to you. I do not, but fertilizing is considered a real chore for me, haha. Come Feb, I mean spring...so that, too, will differ for you. But how cold is it for you in October? We are basically in Indian summer....so it's pretty hot still with spikes too 100 easily. Just as a general rule of thumb, if it's growing--fertilize. If it's not, stop. And during your coldest months, hold back on everything. What month that is for you will differ from mine though! What temps your house is and the light will also make a difference. Because yours are cuttings and just starting to grow, I think if I were you, I'd opt for lightly fertilizing through this winter, 1/4 dosage or so just to give them sustenance. But that's up to you. :)

Love your new stove! I just ordered a new cooktop to replace that d*mn Jenn-Air, and can't wait for it to come in. Funny how a new stove is exciting to a woman!
