Do any of you remember reading a post from a gal in Bermuda who makes Denim Purses and was looking for some feedback on pricing a month or so ago?

I emailed her to tell her how lovely I thought the purses were and asked how much they were as I was seriously interested in buying one - she wouldn't take my money despite my best efforts and yesterday this lovely purse arrived in the mail. I won't use it till Spring since it's pretty mucky here, but I do love it so much, what a lovely gift to receive a few days before Christmas.

After the holiday, I'm going to send her something in return, haven't figured out what yet, but I'll get there.

How nice of that woman to send you a purse!

I am sure you are going to enjoy your new purse. I remember saving denim from my jeans for years to make purses but never did it. Mine would have been big totes if I had used the waist band and zippered front. LOL I just saved the material from the legs and the pockets which was enough to make a purse or a cushion.

What about sending her a mixed box of different types of embellishments? Ribbons, Lace, Scrap Fabrics, Feathers or Rhinestones. Walmart has all kinds of trims, but I'm sure you could do better at a Fabric Store.

My Mom use to make purses. I just donated all her Fabrics and Stuff to Church for the Seniors Groups.

Alright, I kept the stems moist, first and foremost. I wapped them in wet paper towels until I got home, then I put them right into water. I enjoyed the blooms for a few days while I waited. I hydrated a Jiffy*7 peat pellet and placed about a half inche of perlite in the bottom of a three-inch pot. I trimmed off the flowering top, recut the stem under water and stripped off the bottom set of leaves. I scored the end of the stem, dipped it in rooting powder, shaking off te excess. The cutting went into the peat pellet, and I sqeezed the peat pellet tight around the end of the cutting. Then the cutting and pellet went into the pot on top of the perlite, then I filled up arond the peat pellet with more perlite, to the top of the pellet. Karl mists his with a timer, I kept mine in heavy but dappled shade on a shallow plate. (The plate allowed me to water the cuttings from the bottom. As long as the perlite and peat don't dry out, the water gets absorbed up into the asembly.) I made sure and never let the cuttings dry out, or let them tip over hard. They lost all their old leaves, then began growing new ones. When the new roots start poking out the bottom of the pot, the whole peat pellet is ready to be transplanted into a bigger pot. The peat "pellet" (really more of a blob of peat by now,) keeps the brand new feeder roots from breaking off and killing the fragile new cutting during transplanting. You still want to be very careful. Voila! A healthy measure of grace really helped, too, ha ha! Oh yeah, I put them in gradually more sun as they grew their new leaves. I moved them behind some bigger bands that face east, and this way they got dappled sun, then about an hour or two of "straight" sun, then shade until the next day.

I am also having fun reading the newspaper that was used as packing material. Life in Minnesota is different from life in Philadelphia. To start, it seems most of the population there have last names that end in "sen" "son" or "gren", or start with "van" or have double vowels --"aa" or "uu". It seems to be a less hectic place and it's fun to read the birth announcements. Even in our local paper we don't have those sorts of sweet things. Only obituaries. Minnesota seems like a very nice place and, as Jessy can attest, I am picking up the accent, you betcha.

I won't pay to join either... no point to it. DH joined when we got a new car. If he was an AARP member, he got $1000 off. So he went online in the dealership and signed up for three years. That was 5 years ago.... Their magazine/newsletters have had next to nothing in them of interest to us. We are about to the point to immediately trash them.... As far as discounts go, I do just as well with AAA, etc.

I love cast iron. Hoping to find a 12 inch at an estate sale! I have 2- 10 inch that I use a lot!, a small pan, and another slightly bigger. I've also inherited my Grandma's cast iron dutch oven-waiting for winter to put it to use. Your library may have a book about cast iron. Mine did-it was either cast iron for dummies or idiots guide to cast iron. Learned all kinds of things about 'rescuing old crusty rusty ones, care and keeping, and it had recipes too. I never use soap on mine-haven't had a need to. If there is an occasional stuck on something, either salt and a brush, or even better-get one of those thin flat square shaped scrapers. Stuff will flip right off the pan with that. The best way to strip them down and reseason (for me anyway) was to put it in the oven on self clean. To season I use shortening. Then the first several items I cook would be high fat items such as bacon or burgers. Other than seasoning a new (or rescued) pan, I've never had to do it again, Never soak them for later and always dry or a low burner then rub with oil. I read in Cooks Illustrated to store them in unsealed ziplock bags if you are stacking them in a cabinet. prevents clanging around,

I had a purse like that, only not as pretty! Mine had a denim strap and I used it for years, they're super easy to wash, just throw them in with the jeans! Around here, the thrift shops would be a great place to get smaller jeans to use for crafts. Even little kid ones would make cute little purses!

What a loverly gift! I agree with sending crafting embellishments, there's no telling what you can or can't find in Bermuda.

That is a lovely purse. My MIL made one for my daughter last year for Christmas. Actually, she did this for all the granddaughters. I don't think that all the granddaughters loved it but my daughter thinks hers is very cool. She loves getting homemade stuff from her grandma. Anyway, I got off the subject. Your purse is very lovely. I'd send her more crafting supplies also. I think she would really appreciate that. Even if she can get it in Bermuda, she still would probably not be able to find exactly what you have sent.
