Sandy, I make strawberry pecan bread every year to give out for Christmas. The loaf is about 8 or 9 inches long and about 4 inches wide. It's probably about 4 or 5 inches tall. I wait until each loaf is completely cooled and wrap it in either red or green saran wrap.
I wrap it from end to end first just so the saran wrap overlaps on the top of the loaf, then I fold up the sides as well as I can. Next I use a piece of saran wrap and wrap it from the sides. I don't know how much I use, but I like to wrap it a couple of times. When I finish wrapping it I tie some of that curling ribbon around it in both directions and tie a simple bow on it. It would probably be easier to use a stick on bow. I don't know why I don't do that. I just got in the habit of doing it the other way.

The reason I wrap mine so much is because most years I make it in October or November and freeze it. Even after wrapping it I put it in freezer bags. This year I have been scrap booking so much that I didn't get around to it. I'll be making the bread this week.

I should have said...this is a regular size (bread pan) loaf of bread that I am making.

I also wrap my small breads the way you do, Linda. But I don't think it would look right to do actual bread loaves that way....although I may just have to try it.

Oh Linda, I wish I lived close to you. Your bread sounds wonderful. Strawberry Pecan, yummmy!!! I am not a bread baker, never have been. Don't do cookies either, they always fail for me. I can handle any thing else so I stay away from baking bread and cookies.

We just started using the Debbie Myers' bread bags and we like them alot.

I would not use plastic bags and use cellophane ones instead and tie the ends loose. They are crisper looking and won't stick to the bread all mashy like plastic ones do. You should not use plastic bags for the French/Italian style bread as the crusts get soggy and won't be al dente. Paper bags are the best since they transfer air. Maybe use butcher's paper and a bow.

I usually use zip locks (after a couple slices are off)for just weekend baking but last Christmas I had picked up decorated ones from JoAnne's
they were actually for cookie trays. after we tied them up had to trim them a little. I ended up making over 12 loaves - white, polish sweet, cinnamon, Houska, quick breads, didn't have much money (don't this year either! so a baking I will be in a week or so!!! Dough hooks on a mixer - a wonderful thing!

I purchased bread bags from King Arthur Flour. They are just plain, extra long & narrow, plastic bags. You have to order them. You could dress them up with ribbon and a label of some sort.

I wonder if mscsippy would be kind enough to publish her strawberry and pecan bread for us, it sounds delish. Vique

I actually use "used" bread bags..but that wouldn't look so nice for gifts..LOL But it works the best so far.

I was just going to ask for that recipe.

I buy the Reynolds wrap in holiday prints. I use my label maker to mark what kind of bread (or whatever) it is.

I buy my bread bags at Payless (Kroger). They come with twist ties. Nice size for lots of things.
