Here are the ornaments from last night's party...

Just to explain a couple of them- the blue wire ornament can be bent to be a wreath ornament or worn as a bracelet, which is what I will do. LOVE THAT ONE, it's versatile!

The yarn ball is so cute, with the knitting needles. Yarn was wrapped around a glass ornament, needles made from dowels and beads, cute!

The glass ball with the snowman? Paint on a granddaughter's hand made the snowmen! Five, to be exact. LOL

Let me know if you have questions, I'll try to answer them! Turn out was a bit smaller this year, I guess everyone was busy but I actually like it smaller, it's less noisy and we all got to visit more.

They're all wonderful! Is the green and white tree a cookie? Or wood, maybe? How was it decorated?

And the red and white Christmas lights at top....are they knitted?

It Snowed Here Last Night!

Jay, If our temperature were to get as low as yours today, my overwintering tomato and peppers plants (and flowers) in the garage would freeze, so let's hope that doesn't happen. Woo hoo! I just checked the thermometer and we've made it up to 32 degrees. Now that it is up to freezing, let's see if it can make it up to 40 degrees. If we get up to 40 degrees, I'll drag the plants outside for a little sunlight. I had listened to Dr. Forbes' severe weather discussion on The Weather Channel the day before the tornadoes hit but I don't think it sank into my brain how closely it would start to Oklahoma. When I woke up yesterday, the tornadoes were occurring and the eastern edge of OK still had a tornado watch in effect until 8 a.m. Those storms were too close to some of our forum members for comfort! I'm glad your friends daughter was safe. I hope and pray we have a better weather year in 2011 because it sure seems like 2010 had a lot of really deadly weather. That's one thing about a country as big as ours...there's so many kinds of killer weather in various parts of the country....just about everything you can imagine. Having lived in TX and OK all my life, I share your belief that even in a "good" weather year, we'll still have our share of weather-related tragedies. The calmest weather years I can think of all had one thing in common....developing drought. When developing drought is occurring, we often have less rain and less humidity, so less flooding, lightning and tornado-related deaths. However, if the drought develops into a serious enough situation, we have wildfires which bring their own issues. One thing about the weather in the middle of the country...if you don't like it, it will change in about 5 minutes. Dawn

Thanks, ladies. Yes, it's a lot of fun and it seems like the ladies are really outdoing themselves every year. I do have an idea for next years ornie, in fact I have almost everything I need to make them. I saw on FlickR some ornaments that look like those candied fruit slices, you know the ones you see in the nice candy stores, they look like a slice of orange, or lemon, lime, etc. They make them in citrus colors and red.... well, these were felt, 2 colors in each one, like dark green/lime green or dark yellow/bright yellow, etc, and covered with "sugar", which was a square crystal glitter. Simple, but VERY CUTE. I was thinking of making a set of 3 for each lady. I bought all the stuff to make them in case my ships didn't turn out. So I'll be making those, and I won't wait until early December, either! lol bRAT Kat- those are his little mittened hands you're seeing, ya perv! lol It's not a good photo, I realize that. He is absolutely the most charming, old-fashioned little guy, we all flipped over him. The 2 girls on either side of me, their guys had glittery felt shoes- mine has plain. I told them their little guys were gay. lolol And their little scarves are so cute, a tiny button holds it in place. He is perfection. I recommend these kinds of parties to everyone. What a great way to get together, have lots of fun and good food and be creative AND get a huge assortment of ornies. Oh. I don't do a tree anymore, I'm sad to say. Too many cheesy cats in this house that would tear it up. I keep some of the ornaments and share some with friends. I have a lovely assortment in boxes! lol Thanks, WC, about the cat. I hope to hear from the vet this morning that I can pick him up. Fingers crossed!

Awwww.... thanks you guys! You're so sweet. Yes, same hostess every year, she enjoys doing it and we all enjoy going to her house, it's just so much fun. And I have a plan for next year's ornie already, MaryAnn, I just wanted to wait to start assembling the bits I need until after the party, in case anyone had seen them and already made them! I'm going to make bugs out of wire and Christmas bulbs, the bigger ones. Yes, Zipper, that's the store! It has changed hands in the last few years, but I think that was before you were here. Both owners come to the party though. It's a fun night! And look what you come home with, that's fun, too!

The tree is felt on felt, I think the green part is laser-cut, then red rhinestones were applied.

Yes, knitted bulbs, Jane does cute stuff!

Kath, I share the ornies with my friends, since I don't put up a tree anymore. I'll give some to my mom, the Mary Kay/cosmetic collage one will go to my favorite MK lady, I'll keep the bracelet, the shiny things. Some are so cute, I leave them out all year, hanging on a bulletin board or something like that. :)

They are all so cute! You hang out with talented gals. The rustic looking one, with the tree on it....is it wood or leather? And the teeny one is so cute, what patience. The one with Joy written in ribbon....the tiny lamp....gosh.

"I'll keep the bracelet, the shiny things" that made me smile. My one cat just loves shiny things!!!!

Some very talented people in that group! The snow globe and the Joy with poinsettia are my favorites, excluding the mosquitoes, of course! Those are the best! Thank you for sharing!

That's so nice of you Flamingo, it's too bad you don't put up a tree, though.

What does the I Spy one have on it. Can't see it very well, but it looks like something, maybe Santa inside?

The rustic tree is branded leather, she has a bunch of brands that are really for steaks, but she uses them on leather and says it STINKS! lol

In the I-Spy ornie are all sorts of little things- a word, candy cane, little santa face, jingle bell, gift, mitten, pinecone, gingerbread man, reindeer nose, sleigh, etc.

Yes, they are very talented ladies and fun, too.

Can you tell us a little on how the party works? Do the gals bring their finished one (like one for each participant) or do you all make the same one that night. sounds like such fun

Thanks, ladies!

Here is how the party works- One woman hosts the party- she sends out invitations, puts up her tree with ornaments from years past, cleans her house, etc. (She has the hardest job!) She provides the cups, plates, silverware, drinks, and a couple of snacks or dishes. She also provides many different serving platters and has her table ready to hold all the different foods that the ladies will bring.

She invites 23 other women. Each woman is to bring 24 ornaments that she made by hand and a dish of their choice. They bring the ornies wrapped or loose, in a bucket or bag or on a tray, whatever, and puts them under the tree. Once everyone is there, we all get a drink (punch, soda, wine, eggnog, water) and then fix a plate of yummy goodies. We sit in the LR and eat and visit. Then we usually play some kind of Christmas game. THEN, she draws names and we hand out our ornaments, telling a story about them, or giving tips on how they were made, or why we picked that ornament to make, something. Everyone oooohs and aaaaaahs over the ornament and starts a pile by their chair. Then when they have handed out their ornie, they can use their bucket or bag to hold all the new ones they are getting from their friends.

Once that is all done, we usually mill around more, visit, do some private trading with leftover ornies, eat more of the desserts and then finally leave, usually around 10 PM. We started at 6, so it's 4 fun-filled hours. I always bring Woody home a plate full of yummy treats, as his reward for staying home alone with the dogs while I have so much fun. :) It's great fun.
