decor for my fall party last night..yes I used some junk

I have several pieces of this old petrified picket fence.

I had stacks and stacks of it when we bought this place.

I gave a bunch of it away to freecycle people.

But kept a stack for myself.

I wire two short sections together so they would stand up.

Bought the scarecrow with just the shirt on at a thrift store for $2.95.

I put new rafia around the head in arms and pockets.

I took family pictures for our party last night.

Each year the church family comes out for a bonfire. We had a hugh pot of chili, a roaster full of potatoe soup, hot apple cider,pumpkin bars, cup cakes, we roasted hot dogs over the big fire and made somemores.

Then after all the eating we had trunk or treat for all the kids.

Each family backed their cars around in a circle and opened the trunks and passed out tons of candy.

We had over 60 people here.

I'd like to leave the fence thing up out by the drive way and plant flowers..maybe hang a welcome wreath with season decor on it.

That's a real handsome dude!!! You did a great job and it looks like, from the pics, and sounds like the party was a HIT !!!
I love the fence!!! I would vote YES! leave it up -- there are sooooooo many ways to use it for decorating etc.... of course... I'm just a picket fence kinda gal!!

The "trunk or treat" cracked me up! Clever!

Since Karen has been busy this week, and hasn't gotten back here, I will try to help with tipsy pot directions. You need a six foot piece of rebar which can be purchased at Lowe's for around $2.00. You also need pots in graduated sizes, ie: 12 inch, 10 inch, 8 inch, etc. Just pound the rebar into the ground about 18 inches then slide the largest pot onto the rebar through the hole in the bottom of the pot. Fill with potting soil. Now slide the next largest pot onto the rebar, but tip it to the side a bit. (A rock will help support it at the angle until you get the next pot on.) Continue sliding the pots on and alternating the way you angle them then fill them with soil and plants. Vining plants look really good in them. Be careful when watering so that you don't wash all the soil out, and know that they do dry out fairly quickly so you will want to water frequently. (Unless you use Karen's great idea of using silk plants!) If you check on the Garden Junk forum and just type "tipsy pots" into the search box, you will find lots of them. Some have used metal buckets, some plastic pots, some teapots, etc. to make them. The fun part is all the comments from visitors who are amazed at seeing what looks like just pots balanced on top of each other! ;o) Luvs

Luvs, I'm not sure how long he'll be with me, he's 11. He will be here indefinitely as far as I can see. It's a long story, rather not post it here for public to see, but my son isn't the problem, the mother of my grandson is. So, just let me say, he is SAFER with me! I adore him, I've watched him since he was 3 weeks old, so not really much different around here except now I get up early everyday! UGH, I'm a NIGHT PERSON, but will do anything for him. Luvs, yes I decided to put out a few fall things, my kitchen & diningroom are still the rooster theme for now, I probably won't do them fall til October, since I got my last rooster a short time ago & like looking at him on my kitchen counter. We have fall all the way til we start xmas decorating, so not rushing it in my kitchen & DR yet.Besides I just may find some more goodies before then! LOL Karen, sounds like you always do great at GW, I would be there too if we didn't have such good yard sales. I did hit them a few times last winter, will probably again this winter. We never had one in our area til last year and it's in a big new building with lots of room, so maybe that will be my hunting grounds for the winter. Forgot to take pics of last weeks tablecloths I got for .50 each. One is fall colors in large checks, one is pink, red & white for Valentines, one is more neutral colors & can't even remember the 4th one, but all great condition for .50 each. I'll probably use them on the table so you'll see them eventually! Still looking for more cloth napkins in all colors. I also picked up some napkin holders, but can't remember bringing them in the house, so have to see if they are in a bag of things I missed Saturday! Hmmm, now I'm wondering where the heck they went to. Too late to go looking now, will look tomorrow!

I hardly use email anymore ... most chatting done on FBk plus I'm one of the administrators on the 'Flea Market Gardening' Fbk page ... you all know I'm a gardener @ heart! Time slips away very fast! ~~hugs & today I got to be outside for a few hours with some volunteers ... my dear hubby & I cut branches from our pines & collected cones & decorated some of the flower urns in our small town but this old green wagon @ the Heritage Park garden lots ... we also put up the barnwood tree there today ... removed frozen pumpkins, gourds & mush since it's been freezing temps for a few weeks now ! Thanks, Gang. I really appreciate everything you say. About the speckled pumpkin, yes it is ceramic. I found it last year at Joann's on sale. OA, the glitter pumpkins in the apothecary jar aren't ornaments, just table decorations. The "spotty glasses" are cute by the way. Jeanne, I don't like using glitter either but I learned two things. First one, do it outside. LOL. I usually take a shallow box, to catch the excess glitter and reuse it, and hold the item over it or sit it in the box. Also, a gal told me to put glitter in a salt shaker as it gives good control. Truthfully, I rather BUY glittered stuff. LOL. I remembered this morning, thank goodness, that I'd bought a Pilgrim Nutcracker months ago. So got him out of my closet and he's now next to the new tall apothecary jar. I also felt the green turkey on the kitchen counter was lacking, so added a slim little green vase of colorful faux mums to her and the Dollar Tree platter arrangement. hugs, Karen who's still trying to find a place for her 4 S&P turkey sets!!

Patti, what a great idea. I'm sure everyone and especially the kids had a great time. Love your picket fence and scarecrow. Good job. I think the fence would make a perfect year round display. Good back drop for so many things. Glad you had so much fun. Luvs

I vote to keep it up and use it for seasonal displays.
It sure made a great backdrop for the photos. Send updated pics.Thanks for sharing. I have some old weathered picket fencing that I use for my flower bed. I have more and I think I am going to copy your idea.LOL

I agree with everyone else. You should keep the fence up year-round, there's so many things you can do with it. Sounds like everyone had a great time at the party.
