Yard sale finds & some fall decor

Sorry I've not participated much here lately, I do try, but have my grandson living with me full time now. It's been very busy, as you can imagine.

I do still get to yard sales, but am in bed so early so I can get him up for school, I rarely have time to check out all your posts. Hopefully, I'll get into a better routine & can catch up.

Here are a few finds from this past weekend. The lemon & lime placemats are brand new for $2 and the lemon & lime candles new for $2. Green goblets were $3.

The decorated pumpkin on my coffee table was $2 and the copper leaf under it was $1.00, the candle holders have Kohls tags on bottom, the larger one says $24.99 & the smaller one says 19.99, I got each for .75 cents at a yard sale.

That all looks great! More really good finds, good for you.

Well, I see you are already decorating for Fall, I pulled some of my stuff out of the shed yesterday, so I need to get it arranged in the house and on the patio.

So how old is your GS, and will he be with you all the time or just for the school year?

Karen, you really do need to try yard saling. I find that our thrift stores are much higher than the yard sales too, Luvs. Karen, DH is still trying to find a box at work that might fit what I found for you. I may just send off the other box first & have to wait til I can find the right size box. Betty, it's amazing how some areas of the country just don't get into yard sales like here. I would miss them terribly if we did move to Florida. I think I'd have to travel back here each spring just for the sales!!!

Since Karen has been busy this week, and hasn't gotten back here, I will try to help with tipsy pot directions. You need a six foot piece of rebar which can be purchased at Lowe's for around $2.00. You also need pots in graduated sizes, ie: 12 inch, 10 inch, 8 inch, etc. Just pound the rebar into the ground about 18 inches then slide the largest pot onto the rebar through the hole in the bottom of the pot. Fill with potting soil. Now slide the next largest pot onto the rebar, but tip it to the side a bit. (A rock will help support it at the angle until you get the next pot on.) Continue sliding the pots on and alternating the way you angle them then fill them with soil and plants. Vining plants look really good in them. Be careful when watering so that you don't wash all the soil out, and know that they do dry out fairly quickly so you will want to water frequently. (Unless you use Karen's great idea of using silk plants!) If you check on the Garden Junk forum and just type "tipsy pots" into the search box, you will find lots of them. Some have used metal buckets, some plastic pots, some teapots, etc. to make them. The fun part is all the comments from visitors who are amazed at seeing what looks like just pots balanced on top of each other! ;o) Luvs

Karen you have a lovely home. Hard to believe you were able to fit so many china cabinets in, but it certainly doesn't look overcrowded at all. Each of the cabinets and your collections are wonderful. I would feel very comfortable in your home. If you remember reading the post about my fall decor and my concern that the fall items did not fit very well with my normal pastel things--Judith reminded me that many of us do traditional Christmas colors that don't match our normal decor either. It is a seasonal thing, and we should just relax and enjoy it. You certainly found some pretty pumpkins, candle holders and silk flowers and vines. And I love the vignettes and arrangements you made with them. Clap, clap, clap. Good job gal. ;o) Most of all, I am just so thrilled that you felt well enough to shop and do all this decorating. I think maybe you were so interested in doing it that maybe it helped keep your mind off some of the pain. That's a very good thing. ;o) Luvs

Lynne, Country/Victorian is what I call my decor too. The country part is mostly items I've kept from my more country/primitive past, and the victorian part comes from my love of all things lace,roses,ribbons,pastels,etc. All my furniture is oak which is sort of out of style now--but I still love it and no way I will be replacing a whole housefull of furniture! Magpie, I forgot to comment about you collecting cattails from the drainage ditches. I don't see them out here, but when we travel and I see them, I always want to stop and get some--but I'm afraid of two things. There might be a snake just hiding in that ditch or I might slip and fall in! LOL Lynn, I love our cardinal on the acorn. I think I will spray some clear gloss sealer on mine to make him look more ceramic. Karen, didn't you say you did that with yours? OA, that's my favorite pumpkin. The leaf has sort of a metalic looking glaze on it. Did you recognize the acorn guy in the gold cloche? He came from one of our craft shows too. Glad you "enabled" me to get the new little squirrel with the acorn candle holder even though he was that resin instead of ceramic--he's cute! Luvs

More good stuff, I really like that copper leaf. Very pretty under the cute pumpkin.
I stopped in Goodwill today while on a short errand. LOL, was in there for a full hour browsing to my surprise. I got some cute pumpkins, one ceramic.... and one tin one that holds a candle. Plus two other little candleholder things. Then I got a lovely green glass vase and a xmasy floating candle holder that is really cool. I'll have to take photos of everything.

Speaking of pictures, Judith thanks for permission to add yours to my Inspiration album. I'll get on that soon. If anyone else is ok for me to add photos in my album, please let me know. Have a feeling a lot of good decorating is soon to be posted that I'll love and want to save.

Luvs, I'm not sure how long he'll be with me, he's 11. He will be here indefinitely as far as I can see. It's a long story, rather not post it here for public to see, but my son isn't the problem, the mother of my grandson is. So, just let me say, he is SAFER with me! I adore him, I've watched him since he was 3 weeks old, so not really much different around here except now I get up early everyday! UGH, I'm a NIGHT PERSON, but will do anything for him.

Luvs, yes I decided to put out a few fall things, my kitchen & diningroom are still the rooster theme for now, I probably won't do them fall til October, since I got my last rooster a short time ago & like looking at him on my kitchen counter. We have fall all the way til we start xmas decorating, so not rushing it in my kitchen & DR yet.Besides I just may find some more goodies before then! LOL

Karen, sounds like you always do great at GW, I would be there too if we didn't have such good yard sales. I did hit them a few times last winter, will probably again this winter. We never had one in our area til last year and it's in a big new building with lots of room, so maybe that will be my hunting grounds for the winter.

Forgot to take pics of last weeks tablecloths I got for .50 each. One is fall colors in large checks, one is pink, red & white for Valentines, one is more neutral colors & can't even remember the 4th one, but all great condition for .50 each. I'll probably use them on the table so you'll see them eventually! Still looking for more cloth napkins in all colors.

I also picked up some napkin holders, but can't remember bringing them in the house, so have to see if they are in a bag of things I missed Saturday! Hmmm, now I'm wondering where the heck they went to. Too late to go looking now, will look tomorrow!

Yacht, I'm so sorry for what sounds like a rough family situation for your son and grandson. Glad you can help tho. Different circumstances entirely, but my 18 yr old granddaughter moved in with me a month ago. I'm enjoying her but boy did the laundry increase a lot. LOL.

Yard sales probably will start up here good soon as it cools off. I will have to try some... if I can get over my shyness in that situation. Sure do like that GW tho, I find some pretty good things there usually.

Thank you Karen, we do need prayers!!! Yes, the laundry is HUGE since he's living here, but that's ok!

I got a chance to sneak on here for a few minutes, am supposed to be paiting the trim around the patio door! When you own a house, you're never done~~ !

Don't be shy about yard sales, I used to be too, but went for years with my best friend & that helped.
Since her hubby passed away, she lost interest, so I go alone & the people are so friendly, I really enjoy them & visiting with people at them.

I got some things in TJMAXX , and Pfaltzgraff but I will have to wait until after the luncheon tomorrow to post. Still have a lot to do. Pics will be coming.
Karen I don't like to go to yard sales alone...feel I have to buy something!
