It's snowing again (Southern Ontario). Quite heavily too, I might add. This storm was not supposed to be as bad as Friday's storm, but it seems worse already. Hopefully, it won't last as long.

Right now in Calgary, it's -26ÂºC but feels like -36ÂºC. brrrrr
It's only supposed to reach -21ÂºC. No snow for us today. We have enough........ But we will have flurries tomorrow.

Same as you. It's supposed to end some time in the afternoon. Then windy with wicked wind chills. I'm supposed to attend a Winter Solstice party I go to every year, but the thought of driving home in bitter cold with blowing, drifting snow does not appeal to me.

I think I'll stay home and make some lentil soup.

I was just ranting...LOL But yes.. those sites some of you listed are more accurate than TWC. I was just referring to a quick look at the TV as I channel surf. I really don't have a problem getting accurate weather info. TWC, though, just plain sucks at the temp predictions though. Weather's not truly an issue here -- I'm in SoCal for god's sake! I had maters almost to Xmas last year. Glib: nothing wrong with them at all -- however, even they were off a few degrees. Deborah and harvey: thanks for the links. n2xjk: No. The local on the 8's is for SAN DIEGO and that's for at the coast, so I really don't pay attention to that except for the radar for the whole county. But I'm 20 miles inland... much different microclimate. But, you know the forecasts that TWC has at the bottom of the screen as they broadcast their shows? Well, it has 3 cities within the county. that they show forecasts for----. San Diego, Bonita(about 5 miles inland), And El Cajon.(about 20 miles inland and the city RIGHT NEXT to mine.and has the EXACT climate I have(give or take a degree or 2 at any given minute). So, no. Elevation or distance to hub or ANYTHING would not interfere. nc-crn: I agree. they're pretty good(for the most part) for rain patterns and even telling us that a heat wave is coming. or a high or low is moving in. They just suck at temp predictions for MY area. They're actually not bad for the COAST. But how hard could that be when you have the largest ocean regulating the temps constantly?? LOL Also, sorry to hear you're a Cubs fan. That must hurt. I hurt quite a bit also. No rings of any find for my hometown teamS! Speaking of 84... I fell asleep BEFORE game 1 only to wake up and see it 13-0. I thought the series was over right there. After Game 2, I was CONVINCED it was over. But alas! The Padres won the last 3 and our 1st trip to the World Series was realized. Only the Cubs... mwahahaha! :P Len and Soilent: Yep. The world has definitely become way too automated. Remember hearing stories from an old-timer who said "It's about to rain" because he could feel it in his bones or the steel pin in his knee? Anyhow... supposed to be in the 100's today with humidity rising due to a monsoon out in the Pacific. Yay! I'm going to feel like the rest of Americans in the middle of the summer. ;) Kevin

Jay, I missed your earlier post because I was writing mine. I was trying to watch the radar last night to see if you got more rain, but the storm split a couple of times and I wasn't sure if the rain reached you. I'm glad you got those plants staked so any wind that accompanied the storms couldn't blow them over. Three and a half inches of rain is great and I suppose the seven inches is wonderful too although that much in a short period can cause problems, especially in tight soil. I'm sure you'll get additional fruitset during this cool spell. How wonderful that will be. I am seeing a lot of new blooms the last couple of days, so think our plants will set more as well if the highs don't go too high. We just haven't cooled off nearly as much down here as many of you who are a lot further north. Today is the first day that it feels really good and cool outside. Any cooldown at this time of year is good though, even if it only means a high temp of 90 or 95 instead or 98 or 102. Y'all, our rain arrived very late, around 3 a.m. and was a very loud thunder-and-lightning storm with a little rain thrown in. We had a little more than 3/4s of an inch, so added to this week's earlier rain, we have had 1.7" this week, which is a lot of rain for us in July. My garden is looking deliriously happy and quite green. No violent weather here. I was watching the storm make its way towards us when it was still in Texas and producing winds of 100 mph, but I knew it would run out of steam (in terms of windspeed and such) before it got here, and it did. I'm glad a lot of you who have been needing rain up there in central OK have gotten a lot this week--your drought type numbers (rainfall, fractional water, KBDI) were starting to worry me. George's and Scott's drought numbers still do worry me. Lisa, Just a little more rain and your gauge will start overflowing like it did last year! I'm glad you got your new car out of the hail zone in time. Carol, So the rain was just a little late arriving? Better late than never. George, I have been mystified by the way the rain keeps missing y'all there in Tahlequah. I have watched it closely since spring, and it does astonish me that y'all are having our usual 'dry holes' in the radar/rainfall. Never in my life would I have thought you'd ever have a rainfall shortage there (or that Scott's area would be abnormally dry either). I am hoping and praying that you and Jerreth get rainfall there so that your garden will produce well. I hope Scott gets some rain too. Y'all have been far too dry for far too long. You have my sympathy, George, because I understand the frustration of being surrounded by rain that somehow continues to miss your particular location. You are starting to sound like me last year, but you can't help it....you're experiencing similar conditions and frustrations. Hopefully you'll get some rain today and, if not today, then soon. Down here, we always say it takes a flood to end a drought, so it wouldn't surprise me if you get some really heavy rainfall to end your drought there, and hopefully it will be sooner rather than later. Y'all know that the Oklahoma weather is all messed up and out of sync when Marietta has had more rain than Tahlequah. A lot of us still have rain in the forecast on one or more of the next few days. How odd is this rainy pattern for the end of July/beginning of August? Now, let us all hope for a cooler-than-usual August, because that would be almost too good to be true. Dawn

Another Cold Front and Higher Fire Danger Today

We reached a warm and balmy, sunny, gorgeous 76 degrees here in Marietta, and then the cold front came in late in the evening, so I guess today will not be as warm. Our humidity dropped to a very low 12%, though, and my skin felt like it was cracking in that dry air. The potted brugs, still in bloom on the barn patio, soaked up the heat and sunlight, and I misted them to give them some moisture. Our VFD was dispatched to a couple of grassfires too, but nothing major. I guess we'll have a few pretty days before next week's forecasted cold front brings rain and snow. Yes, I do like big roses :-) Trier has been a difficult rose for me to grow. There have been years the foliage has been flaming chartreuse, so it is amazing how dark green the leaves currently are. It lives on a diet of sulfur and chelated iron, but it has been several years since it was last dosed. I don't think Frontenac has much fragrance. This time of year there is so much going on out there it isn't an issue. Darlow's Enigma has started, and that sends fragrance all over the place. There is also a large mass of dianthus that smells rather like rugosas. Yesterday, we had to get a prom dress home from the alteration place through the raindrops. It was pouring on the way there, pouring on the way back, but it stopped for a few minutes when the dress was going from the store to the car.

We have 8-12" in our area here..Belleville Ont.and that fell between 3 a.m. and noon today

We are about 2 hrs east of To, and 2 hrs west of Ottawa

With us being so close to the water,we get this sort of weather...not a biggie really if one uses common sense when it comes to what to do,where to go and whether or not your really need to.

looking out the window..it's windy...the snow isn't coming down...Weather widget says 33F and overcast. Starting to finally warm up a bit....I hope it's gradual...I'd rather it be that, then a sudden thaw..with all the snow in my back yard sitting on my poor aging drain field!!!!

Gee I am jealous! You guys have snow! We have nothing except cold- minus 17 this am. 0 this afternoon. When there is just cold, without snow, I feel it is worthless! No skiing, sledding, ice-skating- or, because I'm not allowed to do any of those anymore- just a walk/ride in the sparkly snow would be great! I love deep, freh snow- reminds me of when we would be snowed in- using the fireplace, making simple meals on the fire, sleeping in the livingroom- when a bit older, the same thing, but add a glass of wine or hot toddy to the list. With friends staying with us because their house had no heat and ours did. Geee...Sigh...

It's been in the 20s here in Portland, Oregon. We have about 8 inches of snow, the top layer being ice. We missed school all last week, but now we are on winter break. Otherwise I bet we'd miss more.

Went to bed with blustery N winds last night and woke to bone chilling temps of 14-16 degrees, with a wind chill of about 6 degrees here in N GA! The good news is DD and her family are enjoying 62 degrees this morning at their home in Leigh Acres, Florida.

Best of all, husband's Christmas gift to us is a surprise quick trip down to spend Christmas morning with his three "best" girls! Although, we'll probably be driving in the rain Tuesday night and most of Wednesday (8 hr drive straight through) it will definitely be worth it!

Currently sunny here near London, ON and has begun snowing in the past half hour.

Temp. 18 degrees (-7 C.)

Wind from the west at about 10 m.p.h.?? (15 km.?) ... but it feels cold: not sure of wind chill factor.

Payday today: the two gov't. pension cheques arrived in the mailbox (slightly earlier than usual in Dec., before Christmas).

Expecting more snow - they've been assuring us that we'll be having a white Christmas.

It appears that this old (whatever) hasn't acclimatized to the season yet, as last evening after dark, en route home along what used to be a rural boundary road between two municipalities, I had a choice of travelling down what's a highway for about three miles, then along a fairly active rural road, or continuing along the boundary road, rather lightly travelled, for a fairly short distance, then along a fairly well used road, which was slightly closer.

The snow plough was coming to meet me along the boundary road, which I chose ... and, keeping to the right to give him space ...

... I ran into a snowbank, about 100 feet from the corner ... and got stuck.

The snowplough driver did his thing, clearing out the corner, waiting for traffic on the highway, then drove past me, stopped, dropped the wing that throws the snow far from the road, about 4 feet in front of my car ...

... and took off down the road, ploughing the snow.

I had got out my shovel and dug some snow, this couch potato not appreciating the wind and the cold, and a guy in a red truck that had been waiting for the plo-ugh! offered to dig out his tow rope and give me a tow ... which offer I accepted with alacrity.

It was a quick and easy tow to get me out, and I went my way.

My neighbour agreed that my choice of road had not been the best ...

... and we agreed that it was probably due to the place where I got stuck being part of the city that caused me not to get help from the operator of the plough ...

...that had it been a county/rural plough operator, very likely he'd have hitched a chain on to my car and hauled me out.

As I said on another thread this morning, "Too soon old - too late smart".

During the time that I've been writing this message - the sun has disappeared, and snow is continuing, though a bit lighter at the moment.

Following some editing ... snowing more heavily now.

This darn weather!! We called the plumber because the fireplace in the bedroom didn't work. Turns out there was a build of ice on the vent outside from the weird weather and wind conditions, which inhibited the oxygen intake. The guy who came said that he'd never seen that before. But our weather has been brutal.
