I would say dress like you would if you worked in an office. No jeans or t-shirts. Dress pants, skirt, dress. Nothing fancy, just nice.

Of course, this is just an opinion and not a definition I found!

But I would say not dressy, but not 'working around the house on Saturday casual'. Slacks (or crops or capris) and a nice top (sweater or blouse, depending on your weather) would be perfect. Or a simple but stylish dress or skirt if you don't do slacks. Probably not jeans unless they are new or a different color, paired with a nice top or even a cute jacket. Nice jeans (even blue ones) with great shoes/boots and jacket would definitely be smart casual for most people.

For our neighborhood Christmas party we always say "Holiday Casual" and get lots of people wearing casual pants with sparkly sweaters.

For the guys it's even easier: any slacks and a nice shirt. No short pants though!

...be sure your pants have an elastic waistband! If it's anything like Brazilian Texas de Brazil you'll be thoroughly stuffed by the time you leave. LOL

A quick web search took me to their website which indicated that it has a salad and appetizer bar - so be sure to waer something that you are comfortable moving around a bit in.

Smart casual around here might mean no jeans. You may want to call first before wearing jeans.

Obey the advice about comfie clothes. Churriscarias are AMAZING, but they are all you can eat and you usually pig out because everything is so delicious. Can I join you??? ha ha. Have fun!

I think of dressy casual as something you'd wear to church or work. no jeans, but not super dressy. A skirt or slacks with a nice top or sweater.

I think it would be close to "business casual" -- but since you don't have to go to work they substitute "smart" for business. I actual think jeans would be ok if you dressed them up enough.

I went to an evening like opera thing the other night and some people were wearing nicer jeans with fancier blouses. Some slacks look a lot more casual than some jeans... depends on how you dress them up and what they look like I guess. But, if this place has a salad bar, I doubt they'd turn away jeans. I guess, like someone suggested, you could call and ask.

No jeans, no sneakers, no t-shirts alone (possibly ok layered). If I was going to a house party and the invitation said "smart casual" I would take it to mean "dress a little nicer and neater than you usually do". I would put DH in loafers, chinos, belt and a long sleeve shirt with buttons (not polo style). I would wear nice chinos (maybe black), matching shoes, and a silky sweater.
