omg...those are too too cute!

Oh wow.....how cute! Look at some of the other things on that page. I think I gained 10lbs just looking!
If you can't find the roll out icing let me know and I'll send it to you. I can get it here!
Those will be some yummy AND cute cupcakes!

Thanks for the recipe, I have some dried cranberries left over from Thanksgiving. These look soooo cute!

I just emailed the link to my sister and told her to make them for me. LOL She's the cake decorator. I'm the cake eater......

Oh, they're adorable! Looking forward to seeing a picture of yours.

I just found these cute cookies this morning. I'm going to make some for the Grands.

You could do that design on top of a Cup Cake too.

They would be a sure-fire hit!
I would love to make some for my grandkids.:)

Those are so sweet! What was the cute thing you made last Christmas, Flamingo? I remember something spread out on a tray, was it iceskaters? It was adorable, too.

Flamey, You find the cutest things - even in food!
The cupcakes look easier than stuffing a hundred olives to build penguins, but both are pretty neat.

Oh, those are cute cookies, Gayle!

Jenni, I don't think there would be time, the party's in 6 days. Thanks for the offer, though! Maybe my grocery store will have it, if they do, I'm going to make them.

Shea, as Spicey said, they were olive penguins on a styrofoam ice floe. They took me the better part of a day to do, and I refuse to spend that much time again on a party platter! lol I think the cuppycakes look very doable. I could even do the heads the day before.

Spicey, I'm always on the lookout for fun food. I don't think I'll ever grow up. ;)

Is that the same thing as fondant, ladies, that roll out icing? If it is, I just found a simple recipe for marshmallow fondant that doesn't look too hard to make.

Those are cute. Definately easier than those penguins.

Lydia (who still thinks Flamey is a over-achiever. lol)

I never heard of ready-to-roll icing. I wouldn't know where to get fondant, either. They use lots of it on Ace of Cakes, though. :) Those are so cute, though.

Flamingo you could use the marshmellow fondant, and yes it is easy to make. I use it often, it's tastes good, sweet yes, but that's frosting/fondant for you. Do try and let it set at least a few hours before you use it, and if it firms up to much just microwave it for a bit, a few seconds at a time, to get it kneadable. Although when you read her blog she answers someones question about it saying the frosting is powdered sugar mixed with water, so you could also make a modified royal icing like this, only add a few drops, to a teaspoon of clear corn syrup or glycerine (wilton makes some)
1 lb 10x sugar
3 tbs meringue powder
4 tbs water
2 tbs clear vanilla
mix on LOW 7-10 minutes.
Make sure to post pictures of them, you always find the cutest food!

Gayle, I think the fondant is only for the heads, noses, and hat trim, the rest is icing..... I like the sound of your icing, with the vanilla. Clear vanilla? I'll have to look for that. I guess I could use almond extract instead, though, right? Never heard of meringue powder. What's that for, I wonder?

I guess I read her instructions way to quick, I'm in the middle of baking and decorating an engagment party cake and needed to take a break. The marshmellow fondant will work good for that, especially after it has set up a while. Do you have a Michael's or a craft store that sells Wilton products? Wilton has clear vanilla, you could use almond too. Wilton also has meringue powder, it is (my explination) a dried eggwhite product, so it eliminates the need to use raw egg whites for royal icing and it has cornstarch it it, so it thickens the royal icing.

Oh, OK! I bet the store will have it, I know they have powdered egg whites. In fact, I have some powdered egg white! I even have cornstarch, maybe I could mix my own, if I can't find it. See, this is why Woody says I'm "resourceful". lol A little of this, a little of that..... good enough! Sometimes, anyway. Thanks, Gayle!

a girl after my heart, same here, I actually make my own, cause the wilton's is expensive, here is the ratios I use, (disclaimer here)I just experimented and it works for me, I'm not saying it is a correct replica, it just works for me for making royal icing..
5 tablespoons of cornstarch, 4 tablespoons of powdered egg whites, 1 tablespoon powdered sugar. stir well. So if you have almond extract or any flavor that is clear, you are set to go!!!!

Whatever you do, don't buy Wilton fondant...everybody says it tastes awful. Regal Ice and some of the other ones are pretty good.

I once.... and I state.. only ONCE made 450 of these little critters for a buffet/graduation luncheon. Fat fingers didn't help me on that day or any other day.. but they were a hit! Not Christmas related, but fun.. at least for the first couple of hundred. Below is a link to a site for the same recipe.
