Melting snowman cupcakes and the Mumster's Bday today- 4 pics!

I made the cupcakes today. Made a marshmallow fondant yesterday, that was a first. I'll never be a cake decorator, that's for sure. Made orange/craisin cupcakes, added a glaze icing, heads, noses, hats, eyes, buttons, etc and they are ready for the ornament party tonight. I had kept the platter from last years penguins and I think it helps jazz up the cupcakes, which look like they need scarves, if you ask me, and I don't have any fruit leather to cut up, darn it. Oooh, I could stop at the store on the way to the party and quick add some, I guess!

Mum turns 88 today! She's in a bit of a depression right now, but starting to come out of it, finally. Hopefully she'll be her happy self again really soon. And she needs to gain some weight, she's scary/tiny. (Like my silk jacket? I got it at a craft show for a mere $32! It's made by Sacred Threads and I've seen them at Ebay in different styles, I like the cropped jacket.)

hey ladies mail just went through I received a very nice gift or gifts from kim /little_green_thumb :) thank you so much for thinking about my critters :)) My birds:) kim sent a tweety bird xmas tree ornament i think in honor of my birds :)) then for me a carousal ornament for me hope i spelled it right:)also Hersey's dk rich chocolate kissesssssssssss fillllled with cherry cordial creme' oh how they melt in your mouth but sure don't last long that taste leaves you wanting another & another same on you kim I think you just buy them for the game pieces & send your friends the candy so you don't gain the lbs . thank you so much for the sweets & ornaments :)) today i'm catching up here at home after going shopping to fill the pantry once again :) i have my meats marinating for my kabobs tonight . dad does not like bar-b- que but he loves my veggie & fruit k-bobs . didn't get much sleep last night the gals & i were out till 1 am we talked about all the old glass mates 40yrs we have been out of school this yr & we all still look like tittty bobber I mean teeny bobbers hehehehhe. i wrote on marshanne bathroom mirror with nels lipstick :)) but nel also did it marsha went in to use her bathroom came out & said oh how sweet i will never wash the mirror again ;))) I did offer to wash it off but she said no . I hope that when you all reach my age you will still have your glassmates to chum with :) we have a ball when we get together without husbands or kids :) & sometimes with our family my dad is their dad as their parents we mine also & now we all have just my father all their parents have passed . will i 'm sure you all know how much fun i had last evening so will shut up :) DJ's Comming for the kisses so have to go put them up . thanks a bunch kim I'll think of you when i pull out the scales :))) hugs to all susie

I found the tax shelter in this posting when searching for a gift for my brother. He is a tax preparer and has everything. So I just had to share what I did for him. I took one of those woodcraft houses from Walmart- removed the two screws from the base. I cut a 1" block of wood that fit into the bottom of the house. I glued this block onto the base thus allowing the top of the house to be easily lifted off the base. I cut a 1/2" groove in the center of the block with the table saw so I could set a card of thumb tacks into it. This was hidden in the house until the top was lifted off. I wrote a poem for this & read it to him while my daughter did a Vanna White presentation of the house. Everyone got a good laugh out of this and I finally did a complete craft project! It's been a while. Hope you have as much fun with this as we did. Here's the poem: I drew your name for Christmas It's an honor, don't you know To get my brothers name for Christmas Ah! ashopping I will go. But then I started frettin After searching high and low Whatever will I get 'im (Twas wrong to worry so!) I went into an office shop Maybe something for your desk? I talked to the clerk a lot She tried to aid me in my quest. He could use a tax shelter Is what the lady said It seemed a bit off-kelter But there was nothing left instead. So here's your little shelter All painted so very nice The foundation has been mended The roofs' been polished thrice. The flowers are all blooming In the big pot by the door The bumblebees are buzzing And there's no sawdust on the floor. It seems to be the perfect place I do agree she's right It sure beats a plain old case And your tacks! They're finally safe at night!

Kathleen, you know me and jars! I just can't seem to get enough of them and have to fill 'em up with something! But the Plum-kissed Pear Butter is really good and I'm thinking about adding it to the "Great Hit Recipes" thread over on Harvest. Of course I have NPFJP (No Patience for Jell Point) so I make butter instead of jam. Lou, the skewered chicken breasts are such a great idea. Also putting bacon on top...how wonderful and Joe would love it! OH Stacy!! Your Spinach Brownies are for sure a keeper!! Kathleen thanks for finding and posting the recipe!! Dixie, Oh how I wish I had a pot or 2 of my Great Grama's. You are so fortunate! Memories add such a unique flavor!!!!!!!!! Kathleen, the pizza is perfection!!!! Sharoncb...oh my, your pork tenderloin looks so good and this is one recipe I've been meaning to try too. Nancy, how are you going to preserve the basil? Pesto? I tried Maryanne's salt method for some basil about a month ago and so far so good. I have to admit, I made some of Nancy's Peach Cherry Salsa last night and OMG is it good. Sorry Nancy I could not wait for you to post the recipe so I winged it. But all I can say, is OMG...OMG...OMG! You've got to think up a catchy name for this one! How about Nancy's "Wild about Cherry Peach Salsa" or "Cherry Wiz Salsa"? I've got my apples cooking for Apple Maple Butter and I found more delicous MI peaches yesterday so the fruit flies are back. Good morning Anj, good to hear from you. SNOW! No way! DH and I have both said that before we travel, we will really have to keep an eye on the weather--never dreamed your area would get snow before month end at the earliest! The first one always looks sorta pretty, doesn't it? But having to deal with it gets old quickly, huh? Glad you survived the sleepover. How do you get the boys and your little one to let big sister and her friends have some privacy? Or do they get to join in on everything? Don't you hate it when an appliance quits on us? And always right when we need it the most. At least you can run down and use your Mom's. Guess I know what you will be shopping for soon. It's especially bad if most appliances were bought at the same time cause then they tend to have to be replaced around the same time! Did you get your tires taken care of? DH says we need to replace the ones on our little jeep. It's our tow vehicle for behind the motor home, so the tires get more wear. We already replaced the ones on the motor home last year. I've not really been painting either, just trying to finish up those little signs. I thought my decorations outside looked pretty nice, until the Santa Anna winds out of the east came last night! LOL We always get them in October and they always blow my garland and stuff off ! I really feel bad for the couple down at the end of the street, because allot of the leaves pile up there. It was DIL's birthday this time, little GD's isn't until May. It went well, and as usual, little one didn't want to go home! Gma needed for her too though--I'd had her Friday all day, then from Saturday afternoon until about 5:30 yesterday, so I was pretty tired. I keep trying to get her to play more by herself, but she thinks that Gma is supposed to play with her. And she never wants to go to sleep at night, then wakes up early next morning too! LOL She's had a cough and stuffy nose, so now I'm getting it too I think--or maybe mine is just from all the stuff in the air from the winds--but I'm coughing and stuffy too. Well, DH wanted to go to the Fairplex to the RV show. I'm not gung ho about it, don't need anything and sure don't want him getting any ideas about newer motor homes! But if he wants, I guess we can go for awhile. Maybe we'll have lunch out too. I'll check in again later. Get as much rest as you can, you need it. Good day to just curl up with a warm blanket and watch old movies. ;o) Luvs

Oh, gosh, you are all too, too kind! Thanks for the birthday wishes for my Mom, she'll be tickled to know the nice things you've said. She is such a treasure to me and I can't wait until she's Chatty Cathy again, this whole depression thing is hard on all of us, but most especially her. I miss her, though, when she doesn't feel like talking on the phone or getting together. I try not to force anything on her, but I insisted we stop by to give her her gift and snap a photo or 3. She's not getting any younger and I am not missing any opportunities for a photo anymore.

The cupcakes were a big hit last night at the party, I did stop at the store but I decided to not add anything to them after all. Most of the party peeps took one home with them for their kid or GK. I managed to keep one for myself, because I want to taste him. :) I'm glad I made them in the morning, that gave that glaze a good long time to set up and harden, because the road from my house to Gayla's is long, very hilly and twisty and if they'd been a bit younger, their heads may have toppled off. No casualties on the trip there, I'm happy to report.

I got some photos of the ornies, I'll make a separate post for that. It was a fun time, lots of laughs, friendship, good food, I do look forward to this every year.

Thanks again for admiring the melting snowmen and my sweet Mum. And yeah, Lyd, yay for good-hair days when there's a camera involved! And Woody is the official "cupcake terrorist", it's his job! And he's way more photogenic and willing to ham it up! Besides, it's a tradition, now. lol

Oh, and I wore the jacket to the ornament party last night and got lots of comments on it, I steered (that sounds so funny, is it a word?) a bunch people to the source!

lol, is "scarved" a word? I can "scarf" them myself, they smell SO good. Thanks for the offer, Maybee. I would have let you, too. I don't decorate, so I don't have the proper things to make a little frosting scarf.... I could have had them if I had thought about it ahead of time, but I didn't. A little red or blue scarf would have been cute, wouldn't it?
