We have had harwood floors for 10 years, son in law finished them and they are as good today as when put in. We use Murphy's stuff for wood floors and have a rug but no throw rugs. Can be slippery. I have rollers on my chairs but show no dammage. But then he must have put 5 coats of special varnish or what ever he used, can't remember now. The main thing is if you have a large rug, make sure you take it up at least once a year to get the dust out. That will damage the floors a bit.

Beautiful floors and I understand you're worrying about them, I guess we all do in the beginning. Other than protectors on the furniture, I do nothing else. We wear shoes, drop things, drag things and nothing happens, the floors look beautiful. I use Bona floor cleaner with their mop and LOVE it. They come out brand new every time. Unless you gouge the floor with a nail or a sharp toy, you'll be fine. They're amazingly sturdy.

My apartment was completely re-done in laminate. I wear knitted slippers all the time anyway, so that hasn't changed.
We have a couple of area rugs.....one under the diningroom table and chairs. The other is in the center of the livingroom that the coffee table sits on.

The first thing we did was put felt pads under everything, including the metal base of the swivel chair and matching footstool.

I'm paranoid about water marks too and am wiping up spills and water drops a lot.

My poor cats don't have any traction when they want to run, so it takes them a minute to get going! LOL

They are beautiful and I can feel your anxiety, but before you know it, they will be christened and you can relax.I have beautiful good wood floor in the kitchen and large entry way...probably nearing 15 years old and they have stories to tell and still look really good when clean....even when they are not. Last year, I flooded kitchen, family room and dining room and had restoration people in to do damage control and all the boards had curled up when it was dried up; my walker went tap, tap, tap, like cobblestones across it, and we just decided to replace/repair it when we remodeled or sold in the future. Guess what.... those boards are flat and you would never know that we had a water problem there. Carpet underlay, however, had to be cut out and replaced over a large area

We have those "magic slider" things on stools in the kitchen,(also on carpet in dinning room) and I sit on those stools and scoot around almost daily in the kitchen and they have not marked the floor. DIL keeps towels near the door for dog feet, as we do here when dog visits and the slide from the patio opens onto carpet.

I recommend the Bona products I get it at lumber liquidators, they have a kit with the special flat mop and the cleaner, you just spray it on and mop it as you go. I have found the big refill jugs at costco and lowes. It is so easy to use, never wet mop just use the bona and mop.

We went to lowes they have a great selection for the things you put on the furniture not to scratch. For my dining chairs I got ones that you hammer into the bottom and for the big furniture larger stick on. I measured each piece of furniture so I knew what I needed when I went. I have one large rug, I got a mat that goes under it at lowes be absolutely sure if you get one to get the one that says for wood floors, they are different.

Get a Swiffer! I love to use the Swiffer and the Swiffer dry cloths on my wood floors.

If I need to mop them, I just put a micro-fiber cloth in the Swiffer and use plain water. Just barely dampen the cloth. - Doesn't need to be a fancy name brand cloth either - just get them in the automotive department at WalMart.

So beautiful!

We have wooden floors too, and use non-skid carpet runners for high traffic areas.

Your floor is beautiful. Was it prefinished or finished on site? If it was prefinished you can ask the manufacturer what they recommend.

nother Bona user here. Swiffers work well for dusting but Ihate buying yet another paper product that gets thrown away - so I just put a microfiber cloth on the end of my Swiffer and use that. I probably have 30 microfiber cloths and when I have enough dirty ones I throw them in the wash.

I haven't tried the bona yet... but need to soon. My floor needs cleaning.

Toni, they are right. Drop something! Make a dent/gouch, or stain... and get it over with. LOL

Your floors are beautiful! You will love them. Our kitchen chairs have casters to move around, and I ordered casters that are for hardwood floors. They are softer, and have really protected our floors. We have the felt thingys under the dining room chairs and table legs. We have oak (they look like yours), and they have been down for 7+ years. Swiffers are wonderful to "dust" the floors. Enjoy!!

No help but they are so pretty. We have hard wood floors but they are already 100 years old so I am not too worried baout them. They need waxing but with four cats and two humans (who have bad backs), a pretty shiny floor is not worth one of us breaking a leg on the slickness of new polish. (and I am too lazy to do it, lol)

dd does have a no shoe rule, most of the time, and has aplace at the front door...but after numerous parties, kids, ect, they seem in good shape..

i don't know if she has moved the big area rug or not like it was suggested, other than a good vac...

my sister had older floors and bil's walker had left marks, but showed her with a little cleaning with murphy's oil that faded the marks...congrats...we've talked about going wood, but still have carpeting..the idea of having to move all the stuff is daunting! lol...

Had to quick stop at Ace Hardward and pick up some extra pads for the living room furniture. Might put them under the stove/oven too. Decided not to drop any water or food on it, Moni. :)
Dh picked up a couple gallons of Bona that was on sale. Living in this dusty country with a farmer means lots of extra cleaning. Feeling the need for some area rugs that won't slip all over. Dh asks why do I need/want rugs when I just put in all this wood.. just a habit, seems like a good thing to do, especially in the kitchen where he makes coffee twice a day. Christmas sales are going to come in handy!

I noticed that you have potted plants sitting directly on the floor. These have the potential to ruin a wood floor. Many planters have a drain hole in the bottom to let out excess water. The same potential exists with a drainless pot that leaks or cracks. I suggest that your plants be placed on large plate like water catchers and be elevated off the floor on stands.

your floor is beautiful. There's nothing like a hardwood floor. We have oak flooring in all our upstair rooms. I lightly stained those to a natural oak color and then coated with a bowling alley finish.

The first time I finished a floor, I spent several hours on my knees and knuckles with a brush. And then I watched a pro do my neighbor's new floor. He did an entire living room in about 15 minutes and had me mentally kicking myself when I saw how easy it was. He did the whole job standing up! He started in one corner by pouring a puddle of finish being careful not to entrain air. I gasped as suddently poured about a quart of finish on the floor. He spread the liquid with a squeege and made a final smoothing pass with a thin, wide push-broom style brush. Of course, he was an expert in executing this daring manuver. A few more dumps of finish and spreading and he had applied 2 gallons to the floor and was done. Time: 15 minutes. Later, he told me the trick was to use techniques to avoid entraining air bubbles. If you got air bubbles, these have to be brushed out with a smaller conventional brush.

gotcha Jemdandy, getting those plant dishes today. Haven't watered the plants since they were brought home from a funeral because those dishes weren't there.

Be super careful, even with the water dishes underneath. I have had disasters happen with plants on the floor, even though I thought I had plenty of protection under them. They can "sweat" under the pans - and then :(
