I know they didn't make the dough from scratch. Think he told me they used crescent rolls.

And some people don't believe talents are inherited. LOL

That is wonderful, you should be very, very proud....One of mine, 13 yr. old, is very good in the kitchen and in fact, does 90% of the cooking in his family....I keep telling him, stick to it and he'll go far.....

When our local high school was built in the 1990s, the theme for home ec was changed at the last minute and they designed a set of rooms to teach restaurant cooking and management instead of the usual home ec facilities. We had an entire professionally equipped restaurant as well as a dining room. They sold breakfast and lunch meals to local non profits, and one Chamber of Commerce had their monthly meetings there. The head teacher was from a restaurant family; his father had been president of the national restaurant association for years. Every year, his senior students were invited to the conference as guests of the association, all expenses paid. I know a local manager of the California Pizza kitchen was a graduate of his. My younger son took just one class as part of his humanities requirement and they helped make a daily batch of yeast rolls which another class baked and sold to the student body daily.

I just talked to an old friend in Texas whose husband has gotten into cooking in his later years. I'm so jealous. I think it's a wonderful thing.

Glenda, wow! That's a thing of beauty. My GS is taking Home Ec this year also. He's always been a little picky and it's really helped him appreciate different food. Now, when they want pizza, Alex makes the pizza dough! I was very surprised when he was talking to me at T-giving about cooking. He really likes it! (Sure hope that teacher introduces some new vegetables into his cooking ability!!)

Is he really thinking of this as a career, Glenda? There are some great Culinary programs all over. Often associated with a community college, the students can get a well rounded education. The talented son of a friend of mine went to one in Charleston...and he's done very well in this highly competitive career.

No, he's hoping for a baseball scholarship :o) but think he's found that he's enjoying cooking like me and his dad :o)

Wow that does look good. We do not offer any type of home ec programs in our school. That went on the chopping box a few years ago. Wish we still had it.
