You can shop the ap store for featured aps, top 25 to see what's available. If you get an ap and don't like it, they are very simple to remove. When you see a little number by the ap icon on your phone, that means there are updates available for one or more of your aps.

I don't have a lot of aps, but here are some I have:
Phone Aid (a first aid ap)
CNN
LA Times
Kindle (sometimes I read on the phone)
Yelp (ratings of local businesses)
Flixster (movies)
Weather (maybe it's already on your phone)

My phone stopped working properly Tuesday. I took it to the Apple store yesterday, and they gave me a whole new phone. My information (contacts, pictures) were backed up so everything was transferred with no trouble.

I have a Droid, not an Iphone but appa are similar for both these days.

My favorite apps are a barcode scanner,visual voice mail,a percent calculator that not only calulates percent of but can compute final cost and margin,a magnifier,Layer and a calendar widget that shows upcoming appointments on my homescreen.

I don't do much media or gaming so I can't help there.

Of course I also use the same apps I normally use on my computer.....Google,Maps,Yelp,Facebook and my email accounts.

First, if you have any questions about how to do a certain thing, YouTube is a great place to look. Search on "IPhone 4S how to ..." and you'll find all sorts of videos ready to walk you through.

Second, I find it easier to search for apps using a regular Google search than using the app store search engine.

Here are a few of my favorite apps:

- Dragon Dictation - speech-to-text app, so you can dictate emails and posts. Takes a little time to get used to, but it's quite accurate.

- G-Park - use it when you park your car in a crowded lot. It will record the GPS location of your car so you can get back to it later.

- World Card MobileLite - take a picture of a business card and this application will pull out the relevant information and add it to your contacts.

- Genius Scan - lets you scan documents using the iPhone camera, then cleans them up so they look like they've been photocopied. You can even make them into a PDF and email them. (Great for when you're at the doctor's office and find an interesting article in a magazine!)

- Pandora - Same as on your computer, only mobile.

- IMDB - So you can look up actors when you're watching TV

- Grocery IQ - Grocery list. If other family members have smart phones, you can create one login ID and password and share the list. It's wonderful!

- Runtastic - keeps track of your walking or biking using the iPhone's GPS. You can even buy a heart rate monitor that connects wirelessly to the iPhone.

- Get the apps from any tv stations, radio stations, and newspapers you like. If you like NPR, they have a terrific app.

- Also get the apps from your local grocery stores, drug stores, and discount stores.

- My cable TV provider has an app that lets me control the DVR and watch TV on my iPhone. See what your offers.

- if you like to read, get some of the reading apps like Kindle and Nook. And see whether your library offers ebooks and audio books for loan. Many do, and use the Overdrive app.

- My favorite game apps - Onew I loved but don't play much any more are Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, Cut the Rope and Boggle. I currently play Words With Friends (like Scrabble that you play against other iPhone users), Hanging With Friends (same, only it's hangman) and W.E.L.D.E.R.

Oh, wonderful! I discovered a keychain that did the GPS thing where you could find where you parked your car, but couldn't find it anywhere before Christmas. And now you say that there is an app for that? Thanks!

mine is android also but many of the same apps are available for iphone. In games I love Aces Solitaire, Random Majhong, several of the bejeweled type games, Dropwords, crossword puzzle,pinball, angry birds regular and seasons, I have a lot more just can not remember them all.
One thing to look at when selecting apps look at how many downloads that app has had and look at the reviews, because there may be multiple say solitaire apps but some are much much better than others.

I too like the tip calculator apps. I like the apps that let me check my stats of my phone, how much data I have downlaoded, am I using more through wifi or cell, and see which apps are using my resources and eating up my battery.
Good file manager app I use Astro, those type will be in the utility apps. If you do not have an unlimited data plan you will really want one of those so you do not go over your limits.

- QRReader (to read those funny little roundtangle QR codes)
- Google Earth (GPS and all that)
- Bump (transfer pics, music, etc. with just a bump with another phone with the Bump app)

- IMDB (Internet Movie Data Base)
- ColorCapture (scan the color of something and you will get the Benjamin Moore equivalent)
- Find iPhone (helps you find your iPhone should it get lost)
- Currency (exchange rates of different countries currancy)
- iHandy Level (LOVE this app! It has a bubble level which has come in handy for hanging pictures)
- Tip Calculator (figures out tip and how much everyone in your party owes)
- CaringBridge (to keep up with Kat's updates)
- OpenTable (I've made restaurant reservations with this)
- PostaGram (take a picture, choose a layout, add a message and send it via snailmail to anyone for 99 cents)
- Guitar Tuner (came in very handy when my brother and sil came back from the Ellen Show with two new guitars)
- Photobucket
- Spider Solitaire (I am totally addicted to this game)
- Social Networking: Yammer, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter)
- Flashlight (handy light to have that won't time out, flashes too if you want)
- Weatherbug and TWC (to check the weather anywhere in the world)
- Groupon (I use Groupon a lot on my computer so also have it on my iPhone)
- Shazam (very cool app ... hear a song playing somewhere, the mall, hairdresser, radio? Shazam will tell you the name and artist)
- YouTube
- Monster (cause I'm always checking out new job ops)
