Merry Christmas and good morning!

Actually woke up at a decent time today. LOL! Peeled and washed potatoes for mashed potatoes and a few for breakfast. Waiting on Lauren to get home from her father's, so we haven't opened our gifts yet.

It's cold but pretty out today, lots of sunshine.

Merry Christmas and good morning to you to Kathy! So far we've had a great morning! DH and I opened our gifts and of course, we've both spoiled each other again! LOL!

DD and her family, including her DMil and DBil and girlfriend are coming this afternoon for dinner. I love them all and am looking forward to the rest of the day! Then we get to keep the Grandkids till the weekend! YAY!

My son and I went to Huddle House and ate breakfast early this morning. When we got back home it starting raining a very cold rain as it is in the 30s here. Going to a friend's house for lunch around 2 then get ready for work tomorrow. It will be crazy after 4 days off there. Merry Christmas to everyone. Thanks to everyone at the KT for letting me be a member.

We had a laid back day here, also. Quiet, except for occasional mandolin and uckele practice. Both were gifts: a nice mandolin for DS, and a cheap uckele in PINK from DH to me. Now, I have NO eye-hand coordination for music, so this should be interesting! Nancy

sarah c, your 'shrimp boil' sounds very exotic to my English ears . . . and taste buds. I only remember shrimps from childhood when we used to collect little grey, wiggly things in out 'shrimping nets' while on sea-side holidays. They were thrown into boiling water and the next half hour was spent spitting out bits of shell and 'innards'. These days our shore-lines/river estuaries etc are still so polluted they don't make yummy, or healthy eating. Yours must be bigger and fatter (and all American) than our weedy specimens. ;-) Mary, Christmas pudding is a 'must-have' after the turkey (the diet can be started after the New Year). I think many folk buy them ready-made but the DH always makes one in early December which gives it time to mature. The recipe is really simple, but the initial cooking time takes several hours of slow cooking. Some people make a couple and save one for next year. The recipe below is from the popular and very practical cook Delia Smith. Nothing flashy or flouncy about her and if you do what she says everything will work out! Belated Merry Christmas to all. Especially to Triciae, who was on my mind a lot this holiday and will be during future holidays. Dear Wonder Woman, I hope you are doing well, where ever you are. Thank you for showing me what courage and strength and kindness are. We drove down to the Bay Area for the holidays. Christmas Eve we had dinner with our good friends in Berkeley, raw oysters with mignonette, cracked crab, and the traditional Buche de Noel. Last night we had dinner with other good friends in Richmond, tenderloin, mashed potatoes and a warm cauliflower-brussel sprout salad. I made half of the tenderloin, cut pieces 1" thick and tied them into rounds, pan cooked, with a sauce of reduced white balsamic vinegar, Muscat wine, shallots and garlic, butter, sauteed mushroom stems, blended smooth, then simmered over whole mushroom caps. No recipe, just made it up. Our hostess roasted the rest of the tenderloin with a red wine and shallot reduction. We were supervised by a friend who is a head chef at a large hotel and, for the first time in many years, didn't have to work on Christmas day, but was nonetheless pressed into service which he did with good humour. I've been negotiating a stressful matter at work for the past few weeks. As of Dec 24, we were uncertain whether our little business unit would be shut down and I had prepared myself to be jobless come Jan 1st. That all got resolved satisfactorily at noon on Christmas Eve, final document review pending, so for the first time in a month, I was able to relax and unclench. It was nice.

Good morning to you Kathy. I just got another 5 pound pot of B & G burgers going, and I am checking in here while they slow cook down.
I was going to make another cream cheese/dried beef/gr. onion/pecan spread, for Town House crackers. But I have 1/3 of one left from Sunday, and 1/2 of another one my sister made, so I'll just take them instead.
Going to my oldest DD's around 1:00 or 2:00 with all but my California family there.
I bought myself a game for us adults to play. Apples to Apples. My niece had gotten the same game and had it at my sisters last night, and it was fun.

Hi Kathy,
We're just hangin' out here. DD is with her in laws and our oldest son is flying to El Paso to build a house this week with Casa por Cristo. The three younger sons are here, ages 21, 19 and 14. We were playing a game but, DW is instant messaging her sister in Scotland so we're taking a break.
We have Apples to Apples and it's a lot of fun.
Catch phrase is another fun game.

Pretty quiet around here this morning. I was up until 2:00 trying to get some gifts done...downloading pics to keychains...7 of them...and of course they all had to be 'individualized'! LOL I am eating an early lunch, then going to take a nap!! We will be off to see movies later this afternoon! =) It has become our Christmas tradition, and I think we all look forward to it!

We are not having our Christmas 'Day' until Saturday. Then we will have Caryn, Kalie & Mike and Travis & Jessica here....LOVE when they are all together!!! =)color>

Merry Christmas Kathy. The sun is shining here. I don't think I have seen the sun for a few days. DS is installing the under-the-cabinet CD player he gave me for Christmas. After that we will take my bed apart and replace it with the new frame and headboard which will give me more room in my tiny bedroom. Then we are going swimming at a hotel with an indoor pool. After that we may catch a movie.

Merry Christmas Kath, and everyone else. We had a great day. We had ten people for dinner, so DH brought in another table from the garage, and we threw tablecloths over it. In other years, we did it like a buffet, and ate on our laps, but even though the second table stuck out into the living room, it was much better this way. All in all, it was a great day.
