Good Christmas Eve Morning

It is mid 30's this morning and damp. They are saying it will turn to ice later! I still have Christmas work to do today. Cheryl came out yesterday and did another once over in the livingroom and put out more decorations. I think she will be back sometime today and help me with whatever. I know she and I were both tired by evening. It seemed like I spent most of my day mopping. Mop and rest of course. I received another KT Christmas card yesterday, a very nice one from Lindalou. Thank you Linda! I still have one more to receive from my group. I really appreciate all the cards I have gotten, so much fun looking at them again. I have some food to put together today besides some more house work. I did not bake any Christmas cookies this year, but Terri was baking some yesterday to bring. Oh, and to add to things, the hot water heater has some sort of sticky stuff running down the side and the digital thing on the side isn't working. They are sending someone out today to look at it. I sure hope they don't have to take it out and replace it as there is a 55 gallon aquarium full of water that would have to be moved before the heater could be gotten out! I don't know why, but some years back my husband decided we would be better off to rent this water heater than to keep the one we had. The one we had was working fine. It would save us money! I hope everyone has all their Christmas work done and can enjoy the holiday. I need to get wobbling and try to get some more done. Merry Christmas All.

Merry Christmas Sue...don't over do it today!! I've got wrapping and baking to do today...My youngest has to work till 7 so we're gonna postpone Christmas Eve dinner till tomorrow..and hit the 11pm church service instead of 6...I'm sitting here snuggling under blankets and I need to get busy!!

The weather has severely changed our plans, so it will be pretty quiet here.....local DD and her DH will take me to my church for services at 5:30, while they go to their own. Then back here for steak and casserole. Have a great time with your families.

Happy Christmas Eve! Maddie outdid herself (and her card brought tears to my eyes!). There is a corn stalk angel, a corn cob santa, a hand-painted gold glass ornament, a box of candy, and a lapel pin that is a palm tree with a martini glass under it (where did she get THAT idea?). You can see the pin if you look really hard on the branch on the right side of the angel's head and bottom of candy box. Thank you, dear Maddie! I'll always remember the first photo we all saw of you, highlighted in candlelight at a Christmas Eve service. Ooops, just looked and the silver tree ornament on the right side is mine. Thought I got all mine out of the picture range. Special thanks to Suzanne for walking us through the picture process! Milkdud, I am so happy you liked the ornament. I found it the week you were struggling with your food choices and just could not resist! DH and I will be alone tonight. We'll have a quiet dinner and then light the luminaries to match all our neighbors around the lake. We usually try to walk around in the stillness and just take in all the light. What's she waiting for anyway? In my family and with most other families that I know the place, time, and menu for a Christmas Eve or Christmas Day dinner is planned weeks ahead. That is so that everyone is notified/invited and all cooks know what the game plan is and what they are to provide. Also, so the hosts can set their tables for the number coming or get in extra chairs, ice, china, etc. This meal requires a little more than just throwing some extra burgers or hot dogs on the grill like you would for a casual outdoor cookout in the summer. Even if you don't do "formal" dinners, you still need to be able to plan this meal so you are not rushed and harried. Is she subtly playing a control card with this?

Pretty quiet around here this morning. I was up until 2:00 trying to get some gifts done...downloading pics to keychains...7 of them...and of course they all had to be 'individualized'! LOL I am eating an early lunch, then going to take a nap!! We will be off to see movies later this afternoon! =) It has become our Christmas tradition, and I think we all look forward to it! We are not having our Christmas 'Day' until Saturday. Then we will have Caryn, Kalie & Mike and Travis & Jessica here....LOVE when they are all together!!! =)color> Enjoy your day with your kids, Kathleen!!!

Christmas Eve is our big family gathering, we include a dinner for 20. We serve buffet style, but sit at dining tables. (I discovered that 20 is the perfect number: 10 at the DR, 10 in the sunroom at two folding banquet tables) We went with a simple dinner menu this year: beef tenderloin, mashed potatoes (two trays from costco, they were great, and pretty in my new red-orange Dansk pan) and a simple Chistmas salad my aunt made. Elegant! Appetizers were made/brought by others: just shrimp w/sauce, an artichoke dip with crackers, and my kids always make the classic Lipton soup dip. Dessert was the most complicated: DH made his mom's Walnut glory cake which calls for 9 count'em 9 separated eggs. But it's not called "glory" for nothing! Our Scandinavian tradition calls for rice pudding which, for the first time, came from my kitchen. It was a tad soupy, but delicious. And folks brought cookies and candy. Christmas morning DH made our traditional "Eggs McDH" and mimosas. We forgot to make the fruit medley, but that's okay. Then we went to my folks' and my brothers met us up there, for baked French toast (made with Challah, best French toast ever!) and bacon. Christmas night is our quiet intimate dinner at home of leftovers, at the dining room table with the party dinnerware. Me, I felt like the Very Hungry Caterpillar: I ate "one nice green leaf and felt much better". Literally, I had the salad with no dressing lol! Ahhh.

Marilyn, you put me to shame, working so hard as you do! You must run on rechargable batteries! LOL!

I have to make a dessert, change a bed, go to the hardware store, deliver one present--nothing major to do. We are eating out at DH's favorite restaurant tonight, so life is easy for me.

Nothing much here. Got up earlier than I normally do.

Gonna hit WalMart to get another pound of sausage.

Gonna make scotch eggs to take to friend's family Christmas brunch. Already boiled them.

Then, Christmas afternoon preprare brunch for whatever family comes here, Saturday.

I woke up to a complete white-out this morning!

Fog and mist so thick I couldn't even see the houses across the road. It is sunny now, but still calling for freezing rain tomorrow. If that happens our Christmas dinner, etc. will be postponed until Saturday.

All I have to do today is vacuum, bake the Spritz cookies (dough is made) and wrap my Dirty Santa gift.

I hope all of you have a great Holiday and stay warm and safe.

Well, I finally put the tree up yesterday. Liz' telling us about having 13 trees up, did it. :)

Today, my plan was to overhaul DH's closet, make some chocolate mousse, and then wait for daughter and hubby to arrive.

BUT

The weather turned to carp, and I listened to the forecast. Called and told DD about it, and she decided to come over last night. Good thing, cause if she had come when planned, the roads are all icy now.

DH went to the gym like always, and then planned to go to work.

We got started on the closet thing, and realized the shelves we got were to wide, and planned a quick run to Lowes. Phone rings. It's DH, he wants me to check, if he doesn't have to go to work (is just about to leave the gym). I go to the website, and lo and behold, all un essential workers are to stay home. DH is one of them. Coats come off, boots back in the closet, and quickly hang all his shirts and stuff back up, and put the shorter shelf from my closet in, and put everything in, and get out of that room. By the time he comes in, I am putting my stuff on his new shelf, luckily it fits here, BIG SMILE!

Now we made the chocolate mousse, but no Ellen to watch. The local news tells us over and over how "bad the roads are", and to stay home. Big laugh on our end.

I guess, I'll go and fix lunch now.

It's bright and sunny and 72 degrees right now. Tomorrow will be rainy, though. Everything is finished and ready for tomorrow. Dinner tonight will be chicken with broccoli and pasta and garlic toast. Yesterday I had a cleaning frenzy but it sure looks better. Habitat came by yesterday and picked up a lot of stuff, which helped clear it out.

I hope you all will take care if you have to drive in the bad weather that's hitting the midwest. PLEASE stay safe and have a wonderful Christmas!
