Good Christmas Eve Morning

It is mid 30's this morning and damp. They are saying it will turn to ice later! I still have Christmas work to do today. Cheryl came out yesterday and did another once over in the livingroom and put out more decorations. I think she will be back sometime today and help me with whatever. I know she and I were both tired by evening. It seemed like I spent most of my day mopping. Mop and rest of course. I received another KT Christmas card yesterday, a very nice one from Lindalou. Thank you Linda! I still have one more to receive from my group. I really appreciate all the cards I have gotten, so much fun looking at them again. I have some food to put together today besides some more house work. I did not bake any Christmas cookies this year, but Terri was baking some yesterday to bring. Oh, and to add to things, the hot water heater has some sort of sticky stuff running down the side and the digital thing on the side isn't working. They are sending someone out today to look at it. I sure hope they don't have to take it out and replace it as there is a 55 gallon aquarium full of water that would have to be moved before the heater could be gotten out! I don't know why, but some years back my husband decided we would be better off to rent this water heater than to keep the one we had. The one we had was working fine. It would save us money! I hope everyone has all their Christmas work done and can enjoy the holiday. I need to get wobbling and try to get some more done. Merry Christmas All.

Merry Christmas Sue...don't over do it today!! I've got wrapping and baking to do today...My youngest has to work till 7 so we're gonna postpone Christmas Eve dinner till tomorrow..and hit the 11pm church service instead of 6...I'm sitting here snuggling under blankets and I need to get busy!!

The weather has severely changed our plans, so it will be pretty quiet here.....local DD and her DH will take me to my church for services at 5:30, while they go to their own. Then back here for steak and casserole. Have a great time with your families.

Oh my goodness girl, are you crazy? I was only the hostess, not your swap partner. WHAT A BOX!!!!!!!!!!!! Boy oh boy, did you jam pack this box and spoil me rotten! I received gold candy coins; an assortment of cocoa mixes; jelly belly Christmas mix; chocolate nut fudge; some mini candy canes and a Christmas pencil. There was also a package of pet greens - wheat seed and a dearly depotted (for the serial plant killer), this is too cool, I have never seen anything like this at all. Okay, this should have been enough, but theres more. A wall calendar; a set of Christmas tile coasters in a holder (these are excellent); a snowman candle and the cutest little bear that counts off the days until Christmas (there are 370 days until Christmas -- ARE YOU READY LOL); and the neatest candy stirrers another something I have never seen before; a magnetic santa notepad; two heresy chocolate bars and a set of candy cane lip gloss (which will feed my chapstick addiction). A wonderful keychain with a beautiful biblical verse on the reverse; a little mini game called "lot to love" (and its NOT a weight thang!); a charm bracelet; an issue of birds and blooms magazine; and the most magnificient smelling mason jar candle in the honeysuckle scent. I love it, its burning now - its smell is just so excellent. Im sitting upstairs and its lit sitting on the dining room table and the scent is just permeating the house. Honeysuckle takes me back to my youth and when I opened the jar, I had some fond, fond memories! I also appreciate the mini swiss army type knife that can go on a keychain. I had something very similar to this that broke off maybe not even a month ago and Im lost without it. This is GREAT!!!!! Wow Susann, you outdid yourself. The rules were "a little token to the host". You really put that over the top. This certainly qualifies as a swap box. I must say each and every one of my bloomin friends has been so kind, generous and giving to me as hostess. I feel so blessed and thank God for each of you. I enjoy our conversations and friendships, whether it is online, through mail or by telephone; and I certainly enjoy getting to know each and everyone of you a little more each and every day. You are all very special ladies, with such loving personalities and traits that rank very high in my book, with hearts of gold and green thumbs. It has certainly been my pleasure hosting this months swap but more so for the love, support and friendship you bring to this group. Ive been spoiled rotten by all the wonderful hostess goodies that I have already enjoyed or will enjoy soon or will treasure for a long time to come. Happy Christmas Eve! Maddie outdid herself (and her card brought tears to my eyes!). There is a corn stalk angel, a corn cob santa, a hand-painted gold glass ornament, a box of candy, and a lapel pin that is a palm tree with a martini glass under it (where did she get THAT idea?). You can see the pin if you look really hard on the branch on the right side of the angel's head and bottom of candy box. Thank you, dear Maddie! I'll always remember the first photo we all saw of you, highlighted in candlelight at a Christmas Eve service. Ooops, just looked and the silver tree ornament on the right side is mine. Thought I got all mine out of the picture range. Special thanks to Suzanne for walking us through the picture process! Milkdud, I am so happy you liked the ornament. I found it the week you were struggling with your food choices and just could not resist! DH and I will be alone tonight. We'll have a quiet dinner and then light the luminaries to match all our neighbors around the lake. We usually try to walk around in the stillness and just take in all the light. My husband's parents used to celebrate the English way, or what they thought was English (they're from Hong Kong). A full dinner at 6p on Christmas Eve, putting up the tree, opening presents at midnight, and then eating a full meal AGAIN at 2am in the morning Christmas Day! This really wasn't very enjoyable for me, and since my MIL worked it was pretty stressful for her, too, doing all that stuff! They would make roast leg of lamb (Chinese will eat meat in huge quantities if they can afford it!), shepherd's pie, several Macanese (Portugese recipes adapted from Macau cuisine) dishes, and one little lonely package of Green Giant creamed spinach for 8 people. Eventually over the years, they stopped doing these parties, due to ill health and just getting tired of all the work involved. I was secretly relieved, although my husband STILL misses opening presents on Xmas Eve, LOL! My family of third-generation Asian Americans, celebrates Christmas Day. We never have a set menu, as all of us, including my now-grown-up nephew and niece, are dynamite cooks and love to experiment. Although we do a mostly traditional Thanksgiving, Christmas is always different. Sometimes we do "theme" ethnic cooking; sometimes we do more traditional stuff. This year it's slow-roasted salmon and prime rib, because my nephew is anxious to try cooking his first Big Piece of Red Meat :)) I make a smoked salmon sushi appetizer that the family really likes, so I offered to do the hors d'oeuvres this time. My BIL is vegetarian so he'll do a Greek salad and we'll have a couple of desserts -- probably a tiramisu and a fresh strawberry tart with lemon curd filling. My sister is in charge of the starch this year, could be pretty wild as she approaches cooking as a science experiment! New Year's we celebrate individually. My sister and her family do a buffet drop-in. My husband and I usually make ourselves a nice festive brunch -- blueberry French Toast or Chocolate Pancakes, and then maybe rack of lamb or filet mignon for dinner.

Pretty quiet around here this morning. I was up until 2:00 trying to get some gifts done...downloading pics to keychains...7 of them...and of course they all had to be 'individualized'! LOL I am eating an early lunch, then going to take a nap!! We will be off to see movies later this afternoon! =) It has become our Christmas tradition, and I think we all look forward to it! We are not having our Christmas 'Day' until Saturday. Then we will have Caryn, Kalie & Mike and Travis & Jessica here....LOVE when they are all together!!! =)color> Enjoy your day with your kids, Kathleen!!!

Marilyn, you put me to shame, working so hard as you do! You must run on rechargable batteries! LOL!

I have to make a dessert, change a bed, go to the hardware store, deliver one present--nothing major to do. We are eating out at DH's favorite restaurant tonight, so life is easy for me.

Nothing much here. Got up earlier than I normally do.

Gonna hit WalMart to get another pound of sausage.

Gonna make scotch eggs to take to friend's family Christmas brunch. Already boiled them.

Then, Christmas afternoon preprare brunch for whatever family comes here, Saturday.

I woke up to a complete white-out this morning!

Fog and mist so thick I couldn't even see the houses across the road. It is sunny now, but still calling for freezing rain tomorrow. If that happens our Christmas dinner, etc. will be postponed until Saturday.

All I have to do today is vacuum, bake the Spritz cookies (dough is made) and wrap my Dirty Santa gift.

I hope all of you have a great Holiday and stay warm and safe.

Well, I finally put the tree up yesterday. Liz' telling us about having 13 trees up, did it. :)

Today, my plan was to overhaul DH's closet, make some chocolate mousse, and then wait for daughter and hubby to arrive.

BUT

The weather turned to carp, and I listened to the forecast. Called and told DD about it, and she decided to come over last night. Good thing, cause if she had come when planned, the roads are all icy now.

DH went to the gym like always, and then planned to go to work.

We got started on the closet thing, and realized the shelves we got were to wide, and planned a quick run to Lowes. Phone rings. It's DH, he wants me to check, if he doesn't have to go to work (is just about to leave the gym). I go to the website, and lo and behold, all un essential workers are to stay home. DH is one of them. Coats come off, boots back in the closet, and quickly hang all his shirts and stuff back up, and put the shorter shelf from my closet in, and put everything in, and get out of that room. By the time he comes in, I am putting my stuff on his new shelf, luckily it fits here, BIG SMILE!

Now we made the chocolate mousse, but no Ellen to watch. The local news tells us over and over how "bad the roads are", and to stay home. Big laugh on our end.

I guess, I'll go and fix lunch now.

It's bright and sunny and 72 degrees right now. Tomorrow will be rainy, though. Everything is finished and ready for tomorrow. Dinner tonight will be chicken with broccoli and pasta and garlic toast. Yesterday I had a cleaning frenzy but it sure looks better. Habitat came by yesterday and picked up a lot of stuff, which helped clear it out.

I hope you all will take care if you have to drive in the bad weather that's hitting the midwest. PLEASE stay safe and have a wonderful Christmas!
