My insurance does not cover "cosmetic" procedures, and I don't have the money to spend that way without feeling guilty, so I usually tie them off as close to the skin as possible with damp cotton sewing thread. In a few days they turn black and just fall off.

Yes, clairdo2, please share. I've been bothered with these things as well. There's a couple on the neck area that always snag on sweaters. Was considering the tie off method myself just don't know how I'll do that and work in public.

I had my dermatologist snip a few off in my underarm area. My insurance paid for it. She said I could do it at home with a small scissors. I could not do it myself but could probably have a friend do it.
My friend who works at a clinic said she and her coworkers do each others by tying thread around the base.

Mine were all removed at the same time I was having a mass removed from my breast so I was already out and insurance was covering the surgery, she could only do the ones around my neck that she could reach so the ones in back did not get snipped. She cautioned about trying to snip them because they bleed a LOT, so if you consider doing that be sure you have some of that styptic gel handy to put on them to stop the bleeding. Also those that are not the same color as the surrounding skin should be checked by a doctor before messing with them. Mine are all very dark(not normal skin colored) and all were sent in for testing to make sure there was no cancer in them.

Skin Tag

There is an over-the-counter skin tag treatment available in Canada. It's basically a "freezing" treatment. It costs about 22.00 and I don't know how many skin tags it can treat, nor if you can keep it to use later or if you have to use it the first time you open it. Some brands have a sort of target thingie you can place around the tag so you don't get the surrounding skin, I have heard. Okay, seen...on a commercial LOL.

My sister looked into it but decided against it for some reason. She is a chicken, so that was probably why ;).

I used to get underarm skin tags until I seemed to have discovered the cause. It was my deordant. Much of deorderants also contain anti-prespirant. The culprit is the anti-prespirant. For me, anti-prespirant clogs pores and encourgages the growth of skin tags. Once, I began using deorderant without anti-prespirant, I rarely get a skin tag.

When i had boobs i used to get them under the boobs everytime the weather got hot.My dr removed them because my bra rubbed and irritated them.

I get skin tags on my neck. I catch them early while they are still small and clip them off with finger nail clippers. (after going to a dermatologist to have them removed, this is what he told me to do! saves time and money)

My uncle use to cut them off with fingernail scissors.My grandmother used silk thread to tie them off,then after a few days they fall off.Kinda the same thing as LIL.I have them too.I smash up a regular asprin and make a paste out of it.Cover the tag with the paste and put a round bandaid over it.In a few days it will dry up and fall off.My DH has had a few frozen off by the doctor and some came back.

LOL...my doctor told me to sterilize manicure scissors, get a styptic pencil ready and clip it off. YOW it hurt! But I did about 6 of them! LOL!!!

Yep, what lynn said.. I do it all the time.. they just keep on coming over and over again.. and egads, do they ever itch when they start to come.. I use manicure scissors too.. but no styptic pencil.. never had much blood except on one and I just put a band aid over it..

My chiropractor told me to put Preparation H on them, to cut off blood flow. I did that with a band aid over it on one that was under my arm. It worked nicely but took a little longer than a thread, but I could do it without help.

Have had a bunch removed around my neck but I can't bring myself to do it with scissors. My dermatologist told me to do it myself but I'm chicken. Have a bunch now. Think I'll try the Prep H!

I snip them off myself all the time. I hate the little buggers, drive me nuts. A sewing snipping small scissors works great!! Really does not hurt at all.

I have a lot of these skin tags and I hate them. Have had them removed by my doctor but I started doing them myself, firstly by tying them off and waiting for them to drop off. Then I started cutting them off and I found that by putting an ice cube on the tag before cutting it sort of deadens the area and doesn't hurt.

I read something in the paper from Dr Gott that a dab of clear nail polish on the skin tag will dry them up and they will fall off.
